Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
digdugnate replied to Tommy Tallarico's topic in Intellivision Amico
A lot of the NES-era Capcom Disney games were fantastic as well! Rescue Rangers would be a pretty sweet co-op game. -
Nintendo Switch - Hidden Gems - - Too soon?

I prefer OutRun over Virtua Racing because I like the game better. I feel the 3DS version of OutRun is probably the best, but the Switch one is darn fantastic. This is a AAA release game, but I think that 'Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle' doesn't get a second glance from a lot of gamers because of the bright graphics/visuals. I picked this up since Ubisoft is running a sale and have been really impressed. It's kind of like Mario meets XCom to me- the gameplay and strategy is darn good. It controls well, too, for the most part. -
it's episodic in a way, but darn it i got a credit crawl, lol- the crawl has you controlling a T-Rex for studs. Lego Jurassic Park - Jurassic Park (Switch) - I finished out the first movie (Jurassic Park) for Lego Jurassic Park. This is a really well done game!

long answer, 'no'. short answer, 'no'. hehe

I think I'd rather have Crystalis than Eliminator Boat Duel, lol -
When did they start selling incomplete games?
digdugnate replied to Keatah's topic in Modern Console Discussion
yup, i remember those days! i was playing through some of the Doom stuff on the Switch and telling my son about that. I had some super cool TCs back in the day, including weird mods that turned the Pinkys into Barney/etc, haha. I think this is where I fundamentally kind of gripe against the Final Fantasy VII remake- it sounds episodic and my concern is that each 'disc' of story is going to be a metered-out time-release DLC purchase. it is what it is, i guess. -
let me tell you a story about this- lol. some years ago in the middle of a Georgia summer one of our sites had a freaking SKUNK die in the walls of the office down there. needless to say it was a long time before that office was habitable again.

When did they start selling incomplete games?
digdugnate replied to Keatah's topic in Modern Console Discussion
i never finished KotOR because of a game-breaking bug at the end of the game. I don't remember the specifics, but you were in your ship getting ready to go face the Big Bad and boom, it locked up. I was so irritated I never finished it- i was a doofus and only had the two save games right around where this bug was. that's partly on me, too, i guess. i'm getting sidetracked, though, but if this had been patched out maybe i'd have finished it. However, I wouldn't be willing to pay money for a patch disguised as DLC. apologies if this was touched on before, but it seems like to me that 'Season Pass' has now become the point-of-order for modern gaming rather than GOTY editions. this would circle it back into the 'incomplete game on release' from OP. 'Want to finish the story out? DLC! You can get them for 'cheaper' if you get the Season Pass TODAY! You want QoL improvements that should've been in the game on release? DLC!' I'm using hyperbole to illustrate my point, but I don't feel like I'm too far off. lol i really only have anecdotal opinions, so take those as you will- but i do wish there wasn't such a push from the 'suits above' at game companies to get whatever stuff they can shovel out the door as fast as they can to monetize it. Two specific examples I can think of were the Borderlands 3 release (multi-platform) and the Switch release of Torchlight II- those games clearly needed some more time in the oven before they pushed it out. We bought a copy of TL2 on release for the Switch and honestly it wasn't playable until six or so months later when they pushed out a QoL patch for it in December. -
And so are a number of other things!

Talk about putting the Wonderbox before the horse. How are they going to have time to release a console if they're launching hotels and mobile services? 😅

thanks for going back over the old ones!

sorry i keep moving the goal marker on you guys, home and work life is always crazy crazy crazy. i did have a few minutes to sit down this morning and jot down the list of what I have. for the most part, i do remember a lot of these and the time dad spent doing it. I know he came up with some 'tricks' to make coding a little quicker but i think that they were still pretty time-consuming between coding and polishing. a funny trivia note is on some of the graphics/sprite work he used my coloring books as a guide along with graph paper. He did some other educational-type stuff and a good bit of Ham Radio stuff, but I don't really have any of that around and my memory isn't so great on that piece. i think all of these were submitted by him to TI for their User Submission program and TI accepted a good number of them. Mom (they're divorced) says that she remembers him being paid pretty good by TI for them. below is the filename list of what i have at the house for dad's songs, for some of the random ones i'd have to load the file and see what the heck it was called. I don't know that I have anything other than ti-format disks, though, i have to keep looking. 5th albumleaf berceuse bigcatboog boatsong bugleboog bumbleboog church csonata doggonex forestrose graymouse guitar inthemill justtheway kangaroo killingme mapleleaf mash4077 moonlight morning nocturne oogieboog opus-23 ozmedley puppytown robotboog rondo seabottom senorita silencia snowscene splendored sundaydriv timebottle (my note on this one is you have to delete lines 250, 260, 270, 280, and 320 to have it work properly) venus westernboo witchdance withlove yesterday youlight

Ha! I need to go check it out then! That's cool.

Here's what I recollect the full names are for these: Amazing Grace A 5th of Beethoven Berceuse Boogie Oogie Bugle Boogie Bumblebee Boogie Doggone Boogie Forest Rose In the Mill Ode to Puppytown Venetian Boat Song Venus Rhapsody (I believe this was an original composition) Western Boogie Yesterday Still at the office for another couple of hours- just been one of those days. I know I have at least two and up to four or five disks at the house. If you are interested, I also had a thread last year about an incomplete game I'd found called 'Caveman'. Thanks to this super community there's a .ZIP of the file in the thread. Dad was with TI for about 24 years, but my memory says that he didn't leave on good terms in the late 90s because of the defense economy/state of the site he was working at. His full time job was Electrical Engineer- he did Smart Missile stuff (Paveway, among others) and worked in their transformer shops in Sherman and Denison. I know he also worked in Richardson but I think that was in the mid 70s before I was born. This is what I remember, anyway- I was pretty young and he doesn't talk about it much.

Jesus Christ, a thousand bucks?
-
Yup! I was thinking it was called like 'Swords and Sorcery' or something like that- I'm pretty sure it's on the TI GameBase.

Aside from a tiny bit of dorking with Centipede on the 99/4a, I had some good Switch time in this week. Thanks to @Skippy B. Coyote's subliminal messaging, I picked up Doom II finally. Switch: Doom I (remastered) -- 376 minutes Doom II (remastered) -- 124 minutes Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch -- 1040 minutes I've been playing through the episodes of Classic Doom on the Switch- I've finished the first two and am working on the third. Episodes 2-4 are unfamiliar enough that I'm not sure that I even played them back then, lol. I never 'legit' finished Doom II; I always just used cheat codes to get to the end. 😂 Trying to play it 'right' this time. Ni No Kuni is a super huge time sink given how grindy it is. You'll know REAL quick if you're not a high enough level for what you're trying to do since the game throws bosses at you pretty much at every step. Still a fantastic game, though- I think I'm about 2/3 of the way through it at a hair over 40 hours.

Updating since I can't edit my post- morning went sideways on me and elbow deep in work. I do know I have at the least filenames and the TI disks. Some of them I actually have on the original disks dad had But.. I also have an archive copy of 99% of what is out there.

Let me look and see what I have later this morning- I'm his son. 🙂

this brings up an interesting point. i think it's cool that it looks like the Amico is 'curating' family-friendly games, but is the appeal so families with younger kids don't have to actively review or research the games? from casual observation, it looks like the big selling points touted are 1) nostalgia and 2) PG-rated gaming that doesn't require any research or forethought. just my opinion (and you know what the face value of that is), but i feel like the onus is on the parents to research the game/movie/show/whatever based on what they feel is appropriate for their kids and not rely on a company to tell them what's ok.

boy you sure have a stiffy for this thread, don't you?
