  1. I wish you could! LOL This stinks... all the games I bought on ebay are starting to come in and I have no way of playing them right now! My search for a working atari has to start over!
  2. Hey Rob, you owe me $5! You can just fax it to me, ok. Just kidding. Seriously, I got the exact part you were talking about and it has no effect. I think I'm resigning to the fact that the atari unit I got doesn't work. Thanks again for all the help I got from everyone.
  3. I'm about to put my kids to bed soon, but I'll stop off after work tomarrow and grab one. I really hope one of those parts will work.
  4. Actually, I don't have a voltmeter. I had the guy at radio shack use his to see if the power supply was ok. Yes, I did make sure the video switch was set to "game". I wish it was just a stupid error like that. I think I'm going to send it back because even if its a simple "solder" type of fix, I'm not your man when it comes to soldering. Thanks to everyone that tried to help me, but I think I'm out of options now.
  5. Actually, look at the connector at this link. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...ct%5Fid=278-253 I don't think this thing would connect. The black RF chord from the atari is a male. It wouldn't plug into the connector that is being suggusted.
  6. Are you saying I should skip the Phone-F connector then?
  7. Sorry for the late response... I was away from my PC yesterday. I'll try to answer all the questions in this post. 1) I don't think that it either one is a PAL system. Both systems had been used on regular TVs (me in Connecticut and other in Tennessee I think) 2) The surge protector is definitely on because that is what both of my test TVs are also plugged into. I know what you mean about that little "Test" button on those GFCI outlets though! After work tonight I will try another outlet just for ha-ha's. 3) I guess there is always the chance the RF cable could be bad, but I honestly have no way of telling. There seems to be no damage to it and no kinks or excessive bends. 4) The power supply is an atari (the sticker tells me that) and it is a 9v 500 milliamps. The guy at RS tested it with a voltmeter and he said it registered fine. I'll have to take his word on that because I do not know how to use of those things. 5) And sadly, I did try applying slight pressure on where the power plugs into the atari unit to see if it was missing a contact point. Question... what would I do with the Phone to F connector? To plug it directly into the TV, or to go into the RF switch?
  8. This is a complete description of my setup: - Power supply plugged into surge protector & atari unit - Black video "out" cable from the atari unit then connects to the manual RF switch from Radio Shack. - RF switch is set to "game" - Coaxle out-going from RF switch is then plugged into the back of my television - I have variously changed the channel selector from 2-3 on the atari unit and have tried chanels 2 thru 4 on the television itself
  9. i've played around w/ the channels for a couple hours at least... i don't think there's any other combinations that i haven't tried yet. How hard is it to fix the voltage regulator? Is it something easily broken during transit?
  10. I already thought of a bad power supply... had the guy at Radio Shack test one w/ a voltmeter and he said it was good. Man is this frustrating... I finally get one after all these years and now... NADA! This is like winning 10 cents on powerball!
  11. I havne't tried to clean any part of it... in fact it looks pretty good (dust wise). I thought it might have been a PAL version myself, but the seller was from the USA (Tennessee if I remember correctly). When I turn on the power switch (on the one I bought or the one I found in my own basement) the screen doesn't change one bit... stays a beautiful snowy white.
  12. Unfortunately, I have tried a lot of channel settings. I've tried 2, 3, & 4 all to no avail. The person I bought it from said they had it working on their kid's tv only a month ago. I am even using the "manual" rf selector because i know an atari can't use one of the automatic ones.
  13. I am trying to set up an atari I bought on ebay with no luck. It came with everything but a game (which i got from another ebayer) and an rf switch (which i bought at radio shack). Hooking it up to my tv's results in no change in picture. I've tried 2 different games and the same thing happens... nothing. I even had the power supply tested by a voltmeter at radio shack and they said it was working fine. I've even tried buying a second rf switch... nothing. In my basement i found an another old atari that was missing a power supply and i put the other components on that to try it. Yup, same result. Does anyone have any ideas? I've been dying to play this thing for years and it is killing me that i've gotten this far with no results! Thanks in advance for any help offered.
