  1. There is no noticeable lag with my set up. Ive played several different games and and haven't noticed any lag yet. I'm using a fairly expensive upscaler tho, around $180 new. I bought a used one on Ebay for $50. This is the the one I used, Startech VID2HDCON
  2. I haven't had any heat issues so far. I purchased a 2 amp 7805 voltage regulator but have held off on installing it. I wanted to see if there was anymore heat generated from the HDMI modded 7800 compared to just an S-video modded unit. After playing both 7800's for several weeks now, there hasn't been any noticeable heat difference between the two machines. I still plan on upgrading the voltage regulator but I just wanted to see what would happen if I left it alone. I actually left my HDMI modded 7800 on for 3 days so I wouldn't lose my place on Bently bear. It was hot but not any more then just playing it for a few hours. I have really enjoyed my HDMI machine, its simple to connect, just one HDMI cord and the video is amazing. I should mention, Im not using any equipment to measure heat. I have the screws out so I can remove the top and touch the heatsink.
  3. Thank you, This is very helpful. I'm working on another addition/mod to my hdmi 7800
  4. Thank you both for the compliment PM me an address and I'll send you out a set of the jacks
  5. I never would of thought to check dig dug, I just assumed the green level was normal. It looks much better under commando mode. Switching the converter between 480,720 or 1080 does not affect aspect ratio. It does however effect the screen. I didn't even notice it right away. in 720 or 1080 i get about a 1/2" blur across the bottom of the screen while scrolling up in Commando. When switched to 480 that goes away completely. The overall picture in 1080 or 720 is slightly better tho. Advanced settings on my TV has a few dozen setting you can mess with. I tried changing individual color settings for tint, color and brightness among several other things but to be honest the only thing that really changed the picture much was just reducing the main tint.
  6. I've never played it before so this is as high as I could get. Hope this helps.
  7. The amperage on the power supply is 1 amp. I can't find anywhere that says what it actually draws. Is it possible to double up two 7805's?
  8. I don't have tower toppler but I'll put it on my Mateo cart and post some pics.
  9. Sorry I miss understood when you said power supply. I was concerned about actual power supply being under amped to handle both. I'll look into changing that out. I'd rather be safe then sorry. Any suggestions on what to upgrade it to? Thanks for your help, it was your suggesting I use the S-Video to HDMI instead of the composite that got me started tinkering with this.
  10. I have two custom settings available on my TV. So I adjusted the settings in one of them for Commando. Now when I want to play Commando I can just switch over to Commando mode.
  11. Played the games you mentioned above with no issues. They look great and play just fine. As I mentioned in my original post I was concerned and prepared to change out the power supply. After testing it for several hours playing games and just leaving it turned on for awhile it seems to be fine. No heat issues beyond normal on the game or the power supply. As you mentioned above some power supplies are 500ma, so the system must draw less then 500ma. I think the 1amp power supply is going to handle the extra draw of the converter just fine. The only issue I need to fix right now is the converter takes about 10 seconds to connect after I turn on the 7800, the screen is black during that time. I miss the atari start up screen. I'm going to move the 5v wire from the converter over so it powers up as soon as the 7800 is plugged in. That way when I power on the machine it will start up normally.
  12. Like I mention earlier, the blur around commando is from the camera and not on the TV screen. Commando is just about the only game I notice a difference and to be honest I'll take the crisper picture even if it is green. It's still a great picture, he's just running through a grassy field. Bently Bear himself is also slightly green instead of brown don't notice any other color changes in the Bently game. The blues are bright and sharp its a really colorful game with the UAV board. The pics I put up are taken on my plasma TV, I get more of the browns on my LCD TV. I'm not smart enough to know how it works, I'm just dumb enough to take perfectly good electronics apart and see what I can figure out. I used Bryan's UAV board and directly soldered it to a Startech VID2HDCON S-Video to HDMI converter. I had to remove parts from both the converter and the Atari. Also had to cut down the converter board a little.
  13. Thank you, the work was mostly just trying to figure out where it would fit and what would have to be removed. I had to dremel away about an 1/8" of the hdmi board so it would fit tighter to the cartridge slot on the right. I took some pics but I'll take some more after dark. it was too bright in the room and there was too much glare on the TV. The blur you see is from the camera. colors are too bright for my iPhone. There is no ghosting at all, its just the camera, the picture is very sharp and the colors are bright.
  14. After I installed Bryan's UAV board I was amazed at how much better the picture was. I had done both the Best Electronics composite and the Longhorn Mod and neither had anywhere near the picture quality as the UAV board connected through S-video. Then I connected it to an HDMI converter and the difference was amazing. What I wasn't happy with was having so many wires and connections to hook up my 7800. So after some tinkering this is what I came up with. I'm pretty happy with how it came out with very little modding to the plastic case. My only concern was that the extra amp draw might be to much and I might have to upgrade the power supply. So far after several hours of playing that doesn't seem to be an issue. I was also pretty happy the metal shielding still fit back in place. I'm interested in what you all think. I might change the wire to ribbon cable to give it a cleaner look but for now i'm just enjoying playing it. Bryans board really is amazing. The case was really dirty, it cleaned up a lot nicer then in the pic The switch to the left of the HDMI jack is to select between 480, 720 or 1080 Testing after I removed all the unnecessary components from the board before I tried installing installing it.
  15. Same here, I've had my 7800 on for 4 days straight so I don't lose my place, I've made it to level 4-3. I'm worried i'm going to damage it leaving it on so long but I don't want to loose all the progress I've made. It's hard enough to finish a level, I don't have time to look for hidden warps.
  16. Thank you, I was trying to keep a stock look with my 7800. It's a fairly easy install. The biggest problem is I need a third hand to hold the wires to the resister so I could solder them I thought about that when I chose my RCA jacks but now I'm thinking about adding S-video. I don't have an S-video connection on my TV so I'm thinking about sending it to a HDMI converter. Do you have any experience with those? Trying to figure out what works best with the 7800. All the posts I find on AA are either older or if they refer to the UAV board its for computer monitor. Not sure what works for a monitor will work good for the 7800.
  17. Finally added the UAV to my 7800 last night. It was a pretty easy install and the results were awesome. This is the third mod I've done. Best electronics and Longhorn mod being the first two. Best was good but I had ghosting, Longhorn was better but I had an issue with jail bars. This UAV mod has none of that, just solid blacks and crisp colors. I'm really enjoying my system right now, with the new games released from AA and the UAV Mod installed I couldn't be happier. Thanks Cro§Bow for putting this up and thank you Bryan for the UAV. I should mention, I'm only using the composite on a LCD TV. No need for S video
  18. Bently would be so much better if you could just fill in all the pits and maybe get rid of all the things that chase and kill me! Seriously tho this game is awesome, I just suck at it. I can't get past 1-7 but I'm working on it. Did find a warp zone by accident, that was a fun surprise. I think I might be addicted, my 7800 hasn't had this much use in quite awhile. Thank you Bob and Al and everyone else that had a hand in getting this game into my hands, its a great game!
  19. And before you say anything, yes I know its not a 7800 game but I can pretend Still messing with it but this is it so far
  20. Thanks to your post I saw what I was missing. I've been watching my email, had no idea those sections existed. Hopefully I'm good I'll be bummed if I missed out.
  21. Thank you. Glad to share, I bought the enclosure from Mouser electronics, they're all aluminum boxes so they're light weight. The Joysticks are vintage Wico leaf joysticks I purchased from Ebay and rebuilt, new grommets, cleaned or replaced leaf switches. The buttons are new but they are also a leaf type button. super responsive and quiet, no clicking when you push them. As far as the printing, I have a graphics and sign shop so i was able to print them myself. I was lucky and found some vectored Robotron arcade graphics someone had put online so I didn't have to start from scratch. Just had to customize it to fit my box and make it look right. I'll post some pics of the inside of the box. Here's the link for the graphics, I manipulated them quite a bit tho to fit the enclosure. I'll share my version of the Robotron graphics if you're interested. http://vectorlib.free.fr/Robotron/
  22. Sorry it taken me so long to reply but I've been in Australia Thanks for the kind replies, I'm kinda proud of them. Think I like building them almost more then playing on them. Thanks, thats exactly what I did. Phone battery was dying so I had it plugged in and had to hold it upside down.
  23. I would like one, please add me to the wait list. Thanks!
