  1. go here to read all about it, I did exactly what you say you are doing, clicked on a link to have some "fun with obscene logins" and a couple hours later noticed my drive clicking suspiciously. Updated my virus definitions, ran a check and bingo, there it was, a logfile and a dialer ready to mine my system. I checked the date and time that the file was dumped onto my system and it was the same time I clicked the link. >>>>Twilight Zone music begins to play>>>>>

  3. I would never even click on any suspicious link, the latest trick is to get you to simply go to a website which then drops a backdoor trojan on your system that logs your keystrokes and then at some later date dials up and sends it out without you being the wiser. Unless you have very tight security, you are at risk, and frankly they could care less what profanities or other things you enter on their forms. I have had this happen to me several times the last couple of months while just surfing around marginal sites, and they are a pain in the ass to get rid of, not to mention having to change all my passwords just in case they were compromised.
  4. you didn't get sniped, you got outsniped if you're already sitting there with 2 minutes and 6 seconds to go, why not wait another two minutes, or have an alternate snipe ready? I agree with most, the adrenaline rush of a good manual snipe is half the fun of bidding, and I just tip my hat to anyone who outsnipes me, especially if they have to pay thru the nose
  5. I've seen worse-looking art at far higher prices, you gotta admit it is a pretty good image for a cheese sandwich! | Maybe grilled cheese is legal tender in heaven...
  6. Beware! There is a warning about a new version of the Mydoom worm. This new virus is not containedin the e-mail, but it asks the user to click on a site (e.g. http:xyz...). If you are not familiar or sure of where the link is taking you, you should not even open the link. Opening the link, even to enter phony info or expletives, will take you to an infected site which then attempts to infect your computer. Click on this link to read more about the virus. (yes, this is a legitimate link). http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/09/technology...dex.htm?cnn=yes
  7. Tip for new eBayer's: put the cart by the keyboard and type what is on it! Use one finger at a time if necessary.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...8145240413&rd=1
  8. the cat's out of the bag, it took an hour, and the auction is now relisted with the Quadrun prominantly displayed, there's one eBay'er who's not so dumb!
  9. Probably too late for that, the claim has to be filed within 60 days of the charge. Judging from the Paypal claim, the guy probably doesn't know about the 60-day credit card claim limit either. Even if he did, it depends on the credit card, Discover and American Express don't allow Paypal chargebacks, Visa and MC do.
  10. It's a UK auction site http://www.qxl.com/
  11. Hasn't sold any, I guess the free shipping didn't help
  12. maybe they sewed it onto their hat to be real cool ...
  13. Yes it was pulled after the auction ended. Probably had Air Raid sirens going off to alert them.
  14. That's not true. I often see Delivery Confirmation information showing each location the package is scanned at. It'll show that it was accepted at my post office, then scanned at the local hub, then scanned again at the buyer's local hub, and then again upon delivery. I have only seen that for Express and Global Express, not Priority Delivery Confirmation. That doesn't make me an expert of course, but here is from the USPS website:
  15. Unless he plans to fly to Indiana I wouldn't waste any sleep over it, he can only sue you in the state and the jurisdiction where you reside. Even if he somehow did that, the burden of proof is on him to prove it is not NTSC, not likely to happen. I would say you have all of the marbles here.
  16. The boot will tear out at the center eventually, but with the gold dots and replacement boots, keeping them up nowadays is no problemo. Loved them when they first came out and still love them. Once you get used to them you can center them pretty well by feel. I still get a cheap thrill when I fake the opponent out in football and then reverse field and run a true 360 around them, ain't no other controller that can do that!
  17. Then I would definately not drop the claim, either he is really stupid or is playing you, either way at this point it is his problem to resolve, not yours. If he says he will refund your money then he can do that as a resolution to your claim and they will then process the refund and unfreeze his account. If you drop the claim then you are saying it is resolved, and you are then SOL if it never arrives. BTW the tracking number is not really a tracking number, it is a delivery confirmation number, and it only show that the postage was paid and then that the delivery was made, nothing at all in between.
  18. I think you put the wrong camera "in the shop"
  19. And now that I look at it again it is right there in plain sight in the hyperlink itself. So they are telling you right up front that they are going to rip you off.
  20. Notice that if you hover over the link in your post, you will see the words OneTimePayment in your address bar. If you were then to enter your bank info or credit card info, etc, it is processed as an electronic payment, thus screwing you immediately.
  21. Complete fraud, eBay never asks for that information via e-mail. This is a common phishing scam, if eBay or Paypal want you to provide any information they will direct you to sign in on their website, not click on an email link. The 72 hours thing is a new twist, gives the scammers time to clean out your account before you wise up.
  22. Actually there is proxy bidding available in most live auctions, you just may not be aware of it. The auctioneers have someone who handles the proxy bidding, all you have to do is fill out a proxy bid form, send a deposit and let them know what your maximum bid is, and they take care of your bidding for you. Not uncommon at all. The biggest difference is that in a live auction the bidding keeps going until there are no more bids, so it is not possible to snipe.
  23. That is going to be a large package, so it undoubtedly will take longer, my guess is that if it went out on Monday the 11th you should see it in a few days. I wouldn't be worrying at this point given the sellers feedback and a member since '99.
  24. Yup, I went against my instincts on something similiar. No communication, no item, and then after I filed a claim with Paypal, I get this amusing e-mail, with the best part in bold: Fortunately, Paypal got all but $5 of my $128 back. I don't care how tempting the item is, bad feedback kills the deal from now on.
