if you decide to mod the shell, expect pain and tears, those polish shells are pure crap, they warp once you screw them together so nothing lines up with anything anymore, you have been warned

if you prefer not to hack the original shell, you can print your own

(the one with the large cutout is slightly narrower but i doubt it'd fit 1200xl, if anyone has 1200xl and 3d printer, just print either top or bottom, try and let me know)

Is it possible for the AVG cart to load a cart image and a disk image at the same time?

(just to prevent any confusion, this is not a stock avgcart, it has sio cable added which is a diy mod)

Is it possible for the AVG cart to load a cart image and a disk image at the same time? There are a few carts that need companion disks or a DOS disk to use them. The menu wont allow the picking of more than one item but if the cart can handle it maybe some sort of mechanism could be created to allow this? maybe a text file listing the different files to load or a directory with a file extension so with all the files in that the menu knows to treat as a single item?

that is planned in some way, technically you can select atr using tab and then run car even now (needs a tweak to actually work, currently it will ignore one of those files)

Is it possible for the AVG cart to feed audio back to the Atari via the SIO port? Stereo cas files or cas files with accompanying mp3 spring to mind. I'm guessing pin 11 isn't connected so this isn't possible.

this is not planned, get fujinet ;-)

Find attached a few (PC) CAS files from my collection. Note that the following files do require Basic: A Day at the Races (Start), Fruit Pickin (CLOAD), Fruit Salad (CLOAD), Hubert (CLOAD, lame+old german type-in listing, please wait init. 3 minutes!). Think I created only five of these CASfiles, all the rest were created by others... Last not least, if the opponents do not appear in Knock Out, just press any key on the keyboard and if you cannot find the key named "anykey", use spacebar instead... ;-)

    PC_CASfiles.zip 355.93 kB · 3 downloads

although those files are not turbo (no pwm chunks), some of them contain fsk chunks which i still need to implement so they should be useful for testing, thanks

  5. it's a demo of currently very beta and buggy cas emulation via that sio cable described on the previous pages here

i wanted to do only basic cas support but i've found out that standard tape loading on atari is extremely boring and annoying so i added some preliminary turbo support (pwm chunks)

unfortunately the issue i've ran into is the lack of test files, i tried making some using turgen and testing them in atari800 with liba8cas support (is it really the only emulator that supports pwm chunks? really?) to make sure they really work but i've been mostly unsuccessful in getting it work even in emulator so i'm done for now (i'm apparently incompatible with ui of those programs and after a while i had a urge to murder people which is not super useful)

so feel free to provide me some cas + loader (car/rom/xex or even included in cas) combinations that can be verified in any emulator, i'll be grateful

  6. random observation: standard atr emulation via osxex breaks when one enables hsio in u1mb

why nobody ever reported this is beyond me

let this be a piece of useful information buried in tens of pages of this thread (at least for the time being)

  7. those 2 wires are ground and a signal line that is not 5v tolerant (unlike the other 4), i had no use for them so i thought about using it as a cable detect and that's why they're joined

of course you can join them on the board but i'd probably suggest doing so via 10k resistor just to be safe, i'll test the value later and will let you know

Have you tested if this will be compatible with other SIO devices daisy-chained?

    no, i haven't

My cart has red pcb but not connector, so I need the cable plus the connector to solder in the pcb.

OK it actually has a connector, but it close to the buttons, so I guess that one is for other purposes.

    that's jtag (for unbricking)

So basically I can solder the connector in any direction or side.

you can solder it any way you like but i suggest picking one of the two options given on that composite photo above so your cable will be wired correctly (as on the other 2 photos)

  9. avgsio.jpg

6 pin jst connectors, 1.25mm pitch (ebay/aliexpress are full of them, including some crimped cables although majority of them is quite short), the one on pcb is 90deg

    molex picoblade should work too

red pcb is the one from the video, black pcb has connector flipped to the other side so pcb fits into unmodified shell, green pcbs have the connector flush with the edge so no need for a flip

white and red are connected together

if you decide to mod the shell, expect pain and tears, those polish shells are pure crap, they warp once you screw them together so nothing lines up with anything anymore, you have been warned

  10. currently i only plan eventually releasing a firmware that will support sio communication via that addon cable, i'm not even promising what functionality will be gradually added, this was basically just a test to see whether there's no issue preventing it from working altogether (and whether there's any interest in this functionality)

so for now it's unofficial and diy mod

  11. all carts support adding sio connector, the only difference is that the older ones (all that have green pcbs? not 100% sure) will have it more recessed so plugging the cable will be probably a bit harder, i need to test that (on the other hand they do not require hacking the shell if you're okay with removing the cart from the shell when you want to plug the cable)

i slightly moved the connector later although it probably should've go even further out, hopefully one day i'll learn do things right on the second try ;-)

  12. nope, unfortunately there's no manual and the first post is probably the best source of info at this moment

but feel free to ask if there's anything unclear, i might write a faq one day if there's enough questions

  13. new fw beta is available

no new features (iirc), just some general speedups

    some remarks

    - if you're upgrading from fw older than 0018, progress bar will overflow the screen, in that case give it 30s more and you should be fine

    - this beta has a fallback mechanism, if you hold left cart button on powerup, it will "boot" into 0018 (useful in case you're having issues with sd card compatibility in the new fw)

please report any bugs and sd card compatibility regressions, thanks

  14. there was some commercial 3d printed case designed to house avgcart and fit 1200xl but apart from seeing a photo, i can't say much about it (and yes,the pcb is pretty wide)

i believe @Mr Robot was looking into designing one but probably figured it's a too tight fit

and for 800 and height, my guess would be no (even when using a halfsize micro sd adapter) but since i don't own 800 (and it's pretty impossible to get one at a decent price), i can't be sure
