Load Data from disk in Assembly
Heaven/TQA replied to peteym5's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
MADS archive in example folder should be a detect 65816 routine. have a look. but imho if you are going down that route... you end up like Amiga coders... OCS, ECS, AGA, 020, 030, 060 with FPU without FPU, grafics card etc... -

re: illegals again. it will give you some benefits in edge cases. sure you can live without them. why are A8 guys so "against"? on c64/2600 and z80 land illegals are "standard" commands. so when you are used to it like with LDA STA etc then you simply use it. A8 has same CPU over complete lifetime... 400/800/XL/XE/gaming/5200.... I dont see any "evilness" in them. 65C02 and 65816 were not "standard" or wide spread to be honest. and still are not. but that's my opinion on them. -

Yeah I remember some stuff but wonder why SID cards did not appear more often as project. Or some kind of YM-chipset as sound card. We have video enhancements, cpu, ram, flash/hdd but except stereo not much more?
-
6510 is C64 so its easier for us to get colors and sprites (ok... joking). SID is more interesting?
-
What would be the benefit? We would loose 2 ZPs as IO ports and rest is binary compatible even with unsupported oppodes.

ah. I forgot the 3x 65816 boards... (hides and runs...) -
Yeah one of the most modern Atari software imho. And as VBXE user I like the native 80 collum mode.
-
Thanks Avery for quick fix! sorry for PMed you but the reason is typical "non disclosure" agreements prior demo compos not to publish before deadlines.
-
Avery please check your PM here.... I run into an issue with VBXE...
-
My 2cents... I recently picked up VBXE coding again... The issue i have with video boards.... you need a fast cpu to drive the board. The 1,79 6502 is not honestly. Best combination so far is the Atari Lynx where its 6502 is clocked 4 MHz and the frame buffer size plus blitter speed seems to be well balanced. But standard 1,79 MHz filling a 64k vga buffer of a VBXE is a heavy task. Sure thats where is blitter is coming in place but blitter needs data, too.

Pete... here too.... C is like assembler. At school I learned famous Turbo Pascal on a 286 and XT. I only had C at Uni in a semester. And loved emacs editor on a mainframe.... so c++, c and c# etc are all strange to me... thats why I stick to 6502 and basic -

A lot of Lynx home brews are written in C. Cc65 is the standard. -

I highly rate Wizards crown and eternal dagger. What about alibaba and the 40 thieves? And I never heard of that mentioned RPG either. Yup.... I can say I never come across... -
Pirx... why? Your exporter should handle that Or did quick ass could that do?
-
Ok. Late at Party.... 30x gone. Are you near Uzhorod btw?
-
Sure. Faster imho than with fastmul even you have 4mhz 6502
-
Yeah used the FPU for my 3D routines on my lynx demos... why not parallel is ok but blocks blitting sprites but helps preparing rot matrix and edge tables
-
As done some a8 to lynx work... not having looked into the code yet but I might say it would be easier than thought. But lynx is 64k not 128k. But if ram is used to load menu etc thats easy on lynx as the cart is a big hdd. Sprite hardware can be used to Blitt the car. Line drawing needs to be adapted to nibble mode and not 4 col bitmap. Not sure if SC uses char mode for fast filling etc. FPU of course in maths.

do you have an example file? In Altirra you can convert .sap to exe files which you can load on real Atari. But that depends on what you are using to load on real hw side?
