  1. Nice find! My first was a cocktail as well - a bootleg Scramble. Congrats, and welcome to the addicition icon_mrgreen.gif

I know exactly what you mean by the control mounting. For some reason that was really common on Japanese cocktails, but not so much in the rest of the world. Of course, a good number of Japanese cocktails were exported, built, or copied outside of Japan using the Japanese control mounting scheme. It always drove me nuts when I'd run across a game I really wanted to play only to find out that the controls were sprouting straight out from the side like exposed plumbing.

That said, there are some cocktails that are very playable - Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Gyruss, Dig Dug, and Crystal Castles all spring to mind. The experience is definitely very different to the uprights, though.

Looking at that Astro Wars, though, I'm inclined to agree that as it's pretty much just left / right and fire for controls, it's probably not much of an issue. Bonus points for having the original Japanese control panel in unmolested original condition, too.

Yeah the stick is awkwardish but being for just left right movement its fine. I think popeye and others had stciks like mine and would be crampy to use for 4 or 8 directions games. And yeah i like the Japanese on the panels too altho the cards under the glass with the scoring table and the game its self is all in english. But i think Japanese stuff usualy has a mixture of english and japanese on it. My famicom box has some english among the japanese text. But i think we all can agree that the woodgrain finish is rad to the max.

  2. I showed off my 87 Panasonic Color Pilot tv which is still my main tv but here is my other TVs Ive collected, they are all from the 1980s and work great. Ignore the horable Berzerk score, I was trying a The Boss joystick and had a bad game but I thought the pitiful score was amusing tho lol.

  3. What I'd LOVE to know is that for you handful of guys who state that a CRT TV is your sole TV, why that is? Like what has stopped you from getting a new TV in all these years, especially considering the relatively low prices for some pretty nice sets these days. I'm not even talking 4K HDR/DolbyV sets here, but regular old 1080p-level sets. I can imagine it must take some pretty herculean efforts and significant compromises to rock a small glass screen these days considering most content is optimized for widescreens and at least 720p/1080i resolutions, as well as HDMI connections.

I have a flat screen but its uses are for my computer and bluray playback. But yes most tv i get thru my cable hook up is in hd but it still palys in wide screen it just letter boxes it wirh black bars on top and bottome of the image. I cant say why i love using my 80s sets i just do lol. Hd looks nice i suposebut i prefer the crt look. This tv i did get second hand from a thrift store for 10$ i wasnt alive in 87 to be the origonal owner tho haha. I think the big factor for using a 80s crt is the fact i love the 80s, i collect 80s electronics like crt tvs vcrs booboxes stereo equipment etc. Lol i have around 2 to 3 hundred cassettes mostly heavy metal and rock and i use a 1987 panasonic cassette walkman that i got new old stock off ebay for my portable music it sounds 100% better than an ipod. I got a 80g ipod classic in 2011 when i was in high school as a present and i barley used it lol.

  4. Im located in Canada. I had made an ad before a few months back and had almost set up a deal but had to back out last min because of bills but might be able to afford one now. Would like to get some games too like berserk but might have to wait on that, but who knows let me know what you jave and what you want. :]

  5. I was just wondering if anyone had spare Atari 5200 2 port machine they could sell me cheap. I was given a machine a month and some ago and after i got some games and a power cable for it ,it turned out to be dead. Like really dead ,someone plugged in an incorrect power supply and and blew a bunch of caps and resistors and who knows what else on the board. So if some one had one and could spare it or sell it or what ever id be very grateful ! I live in Ontario Canada just to let people know. Im not sure how much just a 2 port console by its self goes for but im hoping its like 60$ CAD or under. I dunno let me know and we can work something out im sure lol.
