  1. Really? I enjoyed the characterizations... no, none of them are Hamlet, but I thought they were pretty good for an RPG.
  2. I've always called them Tamagrouchies since the FoxTrot series of strips about them at the time -- this one's my favorite, click forward/back to read the others.
  3. Fighting is real time, but not quite as directly controlled as BG:DA -- you tell a character to start fighting and they do, and then when you want them to make a special move/cast a spell, you choose that. I think you'd like it, though -- I'm a HUGE fan of the BG:DA/Champions of Norrath/Fallout:BoS school of games and wish there were more of them, but I still think Dragon Age is one of the best games of this generation.
  4. Wait, KMD was here? When? And I just googled "alphagotastic" to see if anyone else ever used that as a word. Nope.
  5. Never have doubts about getting Dragon Age! It's really fabulous.
  6. That's awesome. I went to the sale this weekend too (the part in TN), didn't manage to pick up anything game-related, especially not a $10 Vectrex!
  7. LOL! That was hilarious... I miss sitting in the library playing Oregon Trail and having all my friends die of cholera.
  8. Oh, I see it now... I missed the "those were in the box" bit in that mess of bad spelling/typing before!
  9. I don't see the River Patrol box either... how do we know it's in there? Not that it matters... I can see the River Patrol manual and the Springer box and that's already worth the money.
  10. Bump 'n Jump (NES) -- 20 mins Battletoads (NES) -- 30 mins

That's interesting... I'm really curious as to whether the games exist somewhere. And I had forgotten about DAK catalogs... I used to spend a lot of time drooling over things I couldn't afford in them.
  12. Plants vs. Zombies for the iPhone (including all the achievements).
  13. Infiltrate (2600) 15 mins Dark Cavern (2600) 10 mins Snow Bros (NES) 10 mins Bubble Bobble 2 (NES) 30 mins Bump N Jump (NES) 10 mins
  14. I picked the 5200, though as people have said, you can get much the same effect with an A8. Great arcade ports (Qix, Pengo, Joust), great versions of the Activision games (plus some that don't have 2600 versions, like Zenji).
  15. I love Gyruss, one of my favorites... yes, it's a little hard to see things at first but you get used to it. And I agree, the music is amazing.
  16. Wow, that's a really hard question. If I combined all versions of Tetris into one entry, that might win. There are a lot of C64 games that would be high on the list, as that's what I played the most of from ages 11-18, when I also had the most free time. Impossible Mission, Space Taxi, Toy Bizarre, M.U.L.E., and Sword of Fargoal have all taken massive amounts of my time. Other games that would be in the running would be Pitfall II (both the 2600 and C64 versions), Starfox 64, Magic: the Gathering (the Microprose game... the actual card game would probably be #1 if we weren't just talking about video games), the Exile series of games for the Mac, Pipe Dream for the NES, SimCity (the C64 version and the original Mac and PC versions), and Austin, the MUD I played on in college.
  17. I check eBay, the marketplace here, and Craigslist at least once a day on weekdays.
  18. Just discovered there's a white manual for Space Cavern -- I just bought it off eBay.
  19. Sol Brain (NES) 90 mins Impossible Mission II (C64) 45 mins Laser Gates (2600) 10 mins Moon Patrol (2600) 10 mins
  20. Pressure Cooker (2600) 60 mins PinBot (NES) 10 mins Popeye (NES) 15 mins Sol Brain (NES) 20 mins (This is the JP version of Shatterhand... I'd never played either one before; so far I really like it.)
  21. I always imagined the colored ones came first, but I guess they could be errors, since they don't seem to exist for all of the gatefolds.
  22. Pitfall... the jumping sound, the swinging sound, and especially the treasure sound are all great. And I love the music in Pitfall II more than any other sound on the 2600... but that's kind of cheating.
  23. Impossible Mission II (C64) 45 mins Pitfall (2600) 10 mins Plaque Attack (2600) 5 mins Pressure Cooker (2600) 40 mins
