  1. Received the new Sean Kelly 2017 Vectrex Multi-Cart 3.0 today. Below is some quick pic and a mini review.

Quality is excellent in every area.
Menu operation is perfect in both forward and backward directions.
    Game selection and operation perfect.
The number of games titles is improved! With some titles you might not expect to see.
Multi-Cart Box rendition and quality is Perfect! Sean calls its a "KICK ASS BOX" and I totally agree with him.
Multi-Cart box cart holder tray insert is excellent!
Graphics on the front, back, and sides of the box provide an accurate feel of the original era Vectrex games box will provided a perfect match for the Sean's MultiCart. The the short history and production credits are wonderful to see as well.

Multi-Cart Box size is ever so slightly smaller than an original GCE box. But you would have to look very hard to notice the difference. The box fits correctly into a RetroProtection Vectrex box protector!

The Cartridge Holder Tray definitely does it's job well to hold the SK Multi-Cart in the box. The tray also does a great job in helping the Multi-Cart Box to keep a perfect shape. With the tray in the box just enough space remains to allow a one single Vectrex overlay with paper sleeve to fit inside the box too. The fit is tight, but it works. However, placing an overlay plus a manual inside the box in a traditional manner is not really be feasible because the fit will then be too tight. But there is an alternative. Place the manual inside the cart holder tray before inserting the holder into the box. Inside the cart holder tray is plenty of room for at least ten smaller CGE USA size format manuals. Or space for one, possibly two, larger MB Euro size format manuals.

Love the upgrade credit being offered for current owners of his Multi-Cart. Sure it's not as overly generous, to a fault, cost of the previous update price from the 1990's and early 2000's. But still very fair considering you are getting a new cart in the process. Very few other homebrew developers offer this kind of upgrade deal.

Overall I count this new boxed production of the Sean Kelly Multi-Cart 3.0 as a win and definitely a worthwhile value. If you have not gotten one yet, or have waited to upgrade your cart.

  3. Who have found a replacement knob for the Vectrex Controller?

    • One that fits the shaft as a screw on replacement.
    • One that will still allow the controller to be stored.
    • One that matches well. Chrome. Black. Light Gray. In metal or plastic.
    • Preferably, one that does not destroy or degrade another old controller. But hey, Vectrex before Atari! or Tandy. :)
    • One that is reasonably priced. Reasonably being somewhat mutable based on what it is. newly machined knob with chrome / polishing will be more expensive than a 3D printed knob.

  4. Yeah using multiple sd cards that work in every other flash cart I own, reformatting them every possible way, and the fact that normal vectrex carts still work fine definitely point to user error...

Windows 7 or 10? Or something else?

  6. Red will also sell. In fact. when i was selling the runs I ordered using the current Sean Kelly mold a few years ago.

Red was the fastest to sell out. Clear was next fastest to sell out. Blue was the slowest.

Years latest another run that was not mine had Teal and Orange. They both sold pretty fast too.

Some pics are in this Google Album: https://goo.gl/photos/ZtQcuu2JdyJF6sU57

For comparison here is one with all colors plus an original cart.

  7. I typically try to do 1:1 with the shells I make in order to have broader market appeal. I am always happy to make custom shells for customers however and have deals with several game designers where I make molds with their company logo for them; however they all buy quantities of shells that make such an arrangement financially agreeable. What type of numbers were you needing?

I have no real numbers at this time. Would be more of a community generated feature interest. Similar to the spirit of this thread.

Comments from others reading this thread????

  8. How exactly did you format your new card? My new one still won't be recognized and I am about to give up. I got a 2gb micro SD card, popped it into my laptop, went to format a d selected FAT named it VECMULTI then formatted it. Is there something else I should be doing?

Using Microsoft Windows Disk Partition Tool (diskpart.exe) to Clean and Format a memory card for VecMulti.
Locate the Microsoft Windows command line disk management tool called "diskpart.exe".
The tool is located in %SystemRoot\System32
For system with Windows installed on the "C:" drive the tool is located in "C:\WINDOWS\System32".
    File path "C:\WINDOWS\System32\diskpart.exe"
Run the "diskpart.exe" tool file with Administrative level access.
To run as administrator do this,
    * Locate the file.
    * Using your mouse, Right-Click on the file and choose "Run as administrator".
    * When asked to confirm click "Yes".
    Disk Partition Tool Prompts:
The following is a set of prompts, commands and responses used when formatting a micro SD Card for use with VecMulti.
    * 2 GB card was used. Any size up to 32 GB physical size can be used in VecMulti.
    * When inserted into the computer the drive number seen in DiskPart was drive 2. You may need to adjust the drive number used when cleaning and formatting the SD card.
    * Logical Drive size used during the partitioning was "1875 MB". You can format smaller logical drive, but not larger one.

I have used other DiskPart commands to explicitly clean the micro sd card and set a specific a partition size. I recommend using the partition size and filesystem type above if you want to renew the sd card provided by Richard for the the VecMulti. Or your own provided card.
Using tool under other operating systems may also require manual settings for partition size and filesystem type.
Manual settings are definitely required if you are using a newly purchased 32GB sd card with VecMulti. For partition size 2GB is as large a partition size as VecMulti will recognize and you must limit the size when using your formatting tool. Automatic settings may choose a partition size and type that is incompatible.

  11. So I plugged my vec multi in tonight and its giving me an error on boot saying theres no sd card inserted and it goes into dev mode. So I took the sd card out (this is the card that came with it and was working when I last played about a month ago) and my pc recognizes it fine so I formatted it and reloaded all the original contents and ran the menu making program. After that I plugged it back in and its still saying the same thing. Anyone have any idea whats happening or how to fix it? Pretty bummed about it.

What is the partition size of the formatted sd card?
