Intellivision Entertainment launching a NEW Intellivision console
Hwlngmad replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
While I have my doubts, too. I am very much excited about this project, especially since the (original) Intellivision was before me time. Definitely I look forward to seeing what they have an store including if they will include legacy games like what was available on the Intellivision Flashback on the new system. -
AtGames 2018 speculation thread
Hwlngmad replied to OscarGungan's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Does the situation AtGames is in look bad? Yes. Should they have had checks to try and avoid this situation all together? Yes. Is it the end of the world, the company should go down in flames bad? No. I would encourage all to give AtGames some benefit of the doubt and assume (some) positive intent. They are trying to create brand new product lines that are more readily accessible to the average consumer. Medium to hard core retro gamers are being addressed, but getting products into the hands of the many outweighs products design for the few (most of the time). Sure, AtGames deserves flak for the situation they are in. But, let's try and see the forest through the trees here which is trying to spread the accessibility and enthusiasm classic games have. I think people need to check themselves just a bit on this situation, especially when we are not talking about a product that is actually tangible unlike other projects (cough, Atari VCS, cough). -
Crazy! However, when you think about that RCA had future console plans beyond the Studio II (Studios III, IV, and V), then this is not too shocking, but damn surprising that's for sure.

Yes, I recall viewing this discussion. I don't know what the delay is. Probably some legal and/or financial holdups. Still, it does look cool, but has some serious shortcomings versus what AtGames is throwing out there.
-
Agreed. The C64 PnP joystick was really slick. Also, I really like the Intellivision FB, too. Loved the fact the controllers were (more or less) spot on to the original. I wish I still had it as it was pretty cool.
-
I like the look of this product, too. However, like Flojomojo said, just get a Flashback Portable as it has an SD card slot, more built-in-games, and definitely (2018 version) will be released soon.
-
PnPs definitely have their pros, as well as cons. However, the TV Boy definitely seems to be the precursor of sorts to what we are experiencing today with the mini consoles from AtGames, Nintendo, etc. At least, that is how it struck me when I viewed the video. Also, I agree. The Nostalgia Nerd makes some really good videos and I really enjoy his stuff.

Very true

Agreed gentlemen. The 32x and/or CD rolled into a general Genesis package would be best bet. However, I would also think some kind of compilation disc of 32x and/or Sega CD titles would sell well, too. However, when/if these get made seems like a low chance of it IMO.
-
I would be highly interested in a Genesis 32x Mini and/or a Sega Genesis Sega CD combo mini, that's for sure. Hell, even compilations of some kind would be great to see.
-
The O2 did have (limited) success here in the States, and was (somewhat) popular in Europe and Brazil. An O2 mini would make more logical sense, but I don't think there is really too big of a market and/or demand for one. I could be wrong, as it would be very cool to have an O2 mini, but I doubt very, very much that it will ever happen.
-
Agreed. It is something to talk about and discuss to lead to bigger topics concerning the Phillips CD-i. However, anyone thinking this has a really good chance of being made and/or making a 10 to 15 minute video discussing how this is really coming needs to lay off of the chronic for awhile.
-
Hence my reason for starting the topic. However, as I have said previously, I don't believe that this will happen at all. Still, just the response that was done by Phillips themselves doesn't necessarily mean they were just trying to be nice and/or just trying to blow somebody off. There could be, and again I doubt it, some chance that Phillips is actually looking at what is going on with the retro gaming market and the mini consoles. After all, the fifth generation had many a player (Sega, Atari, Nintendo, Sony, 3DO, etc.) that said "me too". It is not out of the realm of possibilities that another company from the past throws their hat into the mini console ring and/or double dips like Nintendo with the NES and SNES Classics.

Hahahahahahah! That would be awesome, that's for sure!

'Star Trek' is a great game on the 5200. I absolutely love it and pairs perfectly with the controllers.

AtGames 2018 speculation thread

Illegitimi non carborundum -
I agree. His critiques of Blue Lightning, Todd's Adventure in Slime World, Warbirds, Mutant League Football, and other seem off base to me. However, not every critic is going to see things your way, no matter how awesome or how much you really loved a game and got enjoyment out of it. Just the nature of the beast. Still, considering the shear volume of reviews (with documentation) he has done, his website is pretty prominent when it comes to reviews of video games, for better or worse.

100% agree! An Odyssey 2 mini would be really cool. I thought I saw something where OpCode is working on a system with Ed Averett being on board. Perhaps that will be a spiritual successor to the Odyssey 2 in some way? However, a Odyssey 2 mini would be much better than a Phillips CD-i mini, that's for sure!
-
Really? I am unaware of that. If that is true, that is sad as everyone has the right to his or her opinion, just like VGC disagrees with my love and respect for Mutant League Football.

Thanks for putting those up. Definitely the Atari paddle unit looks really cool as it has the Jakks Pacific vibe to it. -
100% agree. Just weird that someone would get an 'official' response from Phillips saying something like that. Probably much ado about nothing, but just thought this is pretty far out there and would pass it along

Now this is interesting...http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/09/random_fans_ask_for_a_philips_cd-i_classic_philips_says_we_will_try_our_best

Obviously you can debate the rankings given here https://videogamecritic.com/cdi.htm?ex=1(why he doesn't see Mutant League Football for great game it is, I don't know), but looks like there is 10-20 titles that honestly could go on a mini-console. I doubt this gets made, but one never knows...
-
No joke! But, it seems to me that Phillips was showing some legit interest. Crazy, but how nuts would that be if they actually produced a CD-i mini? That would be f*cking crazy in my book.
