  1. Saw this article (http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/09/random_fans_ask_for_a_philips_cd-i_classic_philips_says_we_will_try_our_best) in another thread. If this is true (and I highly doubt it), it looks like the 1990s may be alive and well once again.
  2. Nicely done. I really enjoyed the video. Another classic tale of 'could've, should've, would've'. Makes me wonder what would have happened had this come out a year or two prior.
  3. Personally, I think all of these mini-consoles are straight up cash grabs (to greater degrees than others). $100 for 20 PS1 games or $60 for 30 NES games is too much dough IMO. Now, if it was 30+ PS1 games for $100 or $60 for 45+ NES games, it would be much better. This is where the AtGames products are much better gaming values. But, considering their hardware struggles, especially with the Sega lines, overall they are (probably) not as good as what Nintendo and Sony is (going to) fire out there.
  4. Besides being cheaper and not being a battery hog (not including library as I am just looking at the hardware), it also was more portable. Also, Nintendo had crap tons more developers for games than Atari could hope to procure at that time. Still, I really enjoyed the Lynx and never felt let down by its library nor the hardware, unlike the OG Gameboy, which I did not like the hardware and got rid of it when it was still relevant. That being said, Nintendo won out big time and has gone on to make really good handhelds like the 3DS. I really like that and think it is about as good as it can get in a handheld.
  5. Very true. I am most nostalgic for the Sega Genesis, NES, and TurboGrafx-16 because those are what I grew up playing with. Consoles after that not so much as I didn't own any 5th gen or later consoles at the time they were originally being sold.
  6. Man, Nintendo has absolutely dominated the handheld market. Crazy to think how inferior the OG Gameboy was to the Atari Lynx (which I absolutely loved while I loathed and sold off my OG Gameboy) and Sega Game Gear, but blew those away like a hammer hitting flies.
  7. All valid points. However, if they can improve the product and a delay is necessary, I am for it. But, as you pointed out, if they delay it and remove some really cool and highly expected features (cartridge slot, SD slot), then Sega deserves to take heat for it. At this point, we are at a wait and see as AtGames still hasn't announced this year's line up (so, it could change even up until then), and we don't know what exactly Sega will do with the mini-Genesis now that they have taken more control of it. Hopefully everything will be for the best.
  8. Hardware wise, yes, you are correct. It looked like the sound and overall emulation was going to be addressed. However, software/game wise it was (more or less) going to be a same with the virtually worthless bonus games tagging along as well. I agree as well that it is a shame we are not getting this in 2018. However, I much prefer to see a stronger, better product out than a rushed incomplete piece (cough, RetroN-77, cough). Just my personal preference.
  9. I concur with you. I would think people would prefer a much better product that has much better build quality and/or software at and/or near the same price. True, it is a bit of bummer that a new release won't happen this year. But, previous indications were that it was going to be more of same anyway, so not a real big loss.
  10. Now I would buy that as you can get plenty of devices that can run Atari 2600, Atari 7800, NES, SNES, Sega SMS, Sega Genesis, etc. However, something like that I would definitely pick up as playing and/or collecting for that system is very expensive. Also, since we are going (somewhat) down the mini-console wish list, a Sega Saturn mini would be cool, too.
  11. One can only hope that the delay and inclusion of "proven Japanese software developers" will lead to a much better product than would be released by AtGames (not to say anything was really wrong with them). Definitely with Sony entering the retro mini console fray, people will have to step up their game as people clamor for better fit and finish in their products.
  12. If this can be hacked and loaded up a la NES Classic / SNES Classic, then definitely it would make this product better IMO.
  13. Agreed. This should sell very well, but considering how many noteworthy games came out on this system, multiple iterations are a definite possibility.
  14. It really just depends. I would imagine you would have to have a Crash Bandicoot game, Gran Turismo, and a Twisted Metal. However, 20 games, while somewhat plentiful, is not all that much in reality.
  15. I concur. Considering that I do a lot of my gaming on my lunch break or when I have time while I am out and about, a portable device would be really interesting. However, if this doesn't show just how hot, popular, and mainstream retro gaming is becoming, I don't know what will.
  16. I think it is good thing to delay it if it means a much better product. Obviously, this means not getting the product in for this Christmas season, so that is a bit of a bummer. However, it didn't seem to affect Nintendo when it re-released the NES Classic this summer.
  17. Definitely I would be interested in a multi-cart for the Channel F when another round comes out.
  18. Has there been a significant update recently of all of the multicarts available out there? I know that a lot of systems have them, but it would be nice to have an updated listing, that's for sure.
  19. Honestly I am waiting for the handhelds to receive significant upgrades. I like my PSP that is all loaded up on emulators, but having something that can imitate the 2600 hardware and play every game perfectly would be a must buy for me as trying to play a lot of 2600 games on the PSP can be frustrating. Also, having a better Genesis handheld would be really nice to, although the PSP I have does the Genesis titles (plus CD and 32x) titles quite well. Still, having a device that run Genesis titles perfectly and emulate the hardware dead-on would be a really cool item to get.
  20. Same here regarding crowdfunding. I will wait until everything is fully baked and fully being produced. Definitely all of the projects out there are intriguing, but we will just have to wait and see how they all flesh out.
  21. I agree. I believe Intellivision seems to be doing things the (more or less) right way. However, any project whether it be the new Intellivision, Opcode's Project Omni, or CollectorVision's new ColecoVision console needs to be met with some skepticism and honest assessment of matters.
  22. Yes, there is a gentleman in Germany who is planning to upgrade a whole bunch of 5200s with things like HDMI output and other upgrades. It won't be cheap $250+ (shipping not included). However, it looks to be a really awesome project that if it becomes a reality, could be the 5200 to have for many, many years to come.
  23. I agree. ColecoVisions (as well as many other consoles) are slowly dying off, so the fact that this system is coming into fruition is an absolute win-win for everyone.
  24. Are there any more updates on the Atari 5200 Black Edition? Definitely I would be very interested in one if this project does come to fruition.
