AtGames 2018 speculation thread
Hwlngmad replied to OscarGungan's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Considering that RCA is quickly going the way of the dodo, I think it is truly for the best to be doing HDMI from this point on as it is, more or less, the standard nowadays. -
I have to say that I really thought the software of the Lynx was pretty good. Blue Lightining, Warbirds, Rampart, A.P.B., etc were all really good games. Sure, there were some stinkers like Kung Food, but I really think what ultimately sunk the Lynx was the initial price and marketing, not necessarily the software as there were/are plenty of good titles on it.

I really think the "lack of love" was marketing. Nintendo had it in spades versus late 80s, early 90s Atari. Nintendo was everywhere and the fact that the GameBoy came packed with either Super Mario Land and/or Tetris, which appealed to so many people, it made any competitor, including Sega and/or Atari, really difficult. This and the price difference ($90 versus $180) made the GameBoy a runaway success.

what if Sega made a SEGA CD plug and play?
Hwlngmad replied to coleco82's topic in Dedicated Systems
I think a Sega Genesis CD and/or a Sega Genesis 32x FB unit would be awesome. Hell, how about a compilation disc for the Sega CD and/or 32x instead of trotting out another Genesis compilation like Sega just did? Shoot, even that would generate some interest I would think. -
Personally, I really loved my Lynx. It was a great handheld and I really enjoyed it a lot more than the OG GameBoy, which I sold back in my playing days as I couldn't stand it. However, while it was the superior handheld (Turbo Express and/or Sega Nomad withstanding), it just didn't have the clout like Nintendo had to really sell the system. Also, the initial price tag really hurt it when it was released as well. That being said, it was a great handheld that should've/could've done lots better given better circumstances.

I know that you gents have spoken about various reviews by the AVGN, FigureItOut Productions, and Metal Jesus (Rocks). However, the Atari 5200 was just reviewed by Replay Retro, and gave a really good and honest review of the system ( ). Definitely it is worth checking out if you have not already done so as the review is really well researched and produced.

Hopefully the 85 games don't include those d-bag Bonus games, and instead include regular Genesis or Master System titles. -
AtGames 2018 speculation thread
Hwlngmad replied to OscarGungan's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Those look pretty cool, especially at the $20 category. Definitely seeing the final production versions of all of these products will be nice to see, as well as reviews of them when they are released. I am sure that there will be plenty of viewing, that's for sure. -
I agree. A 'micro-console' if you will. The closest thing I have seen (and currently have) is the Nvidia Shield TV. While it has a lot of pluses, it has negatives too and could use some competition in being the "streamer for gamers". Only time will tell, but it seems to me that demand for this product type seems fairly low as Amazon with its 1st and 2nd Gen Fire TV tried this angle too, but seems to have abandoned it now.

AtGames 2018 speculation thread

Agreed, AtGames definitely has a golden opportunity to really separate themselves from the pack with this year's products, especially if the HD units offer SD card support and can support everything. Time will tell to see if that is true or not, though. -
That's pretty cool. I dig it. These are fromhttps://www.pimpmypicase.com/product-page/atari-2600-skin Shall we say they're "not retro, but retro-inspired?" Screen Shot 2018-08-03 at 4.07.52 PM.pngScreen Shot 2018-08-03 at 4.08.03 PM.png And for free, a hearty middle finger to any lawyers from Atari who even think of hassling this silly British sticker-selling company over this.

What consoles would you like to see made as a flashback
Hwlngmad replied to maxdrive's topic in Dedicated Systems
I would think a Sega Genesis CD and/or Sega Genesis 32x flashback would be some pretty good products. I agree with the Nostalgia Nerd in that compilations of Sega Genesis (while nice) are starting wear a little thin and something that highlights the CD and 32x would be worth while IMO. -
That is one heckavua lot right there. Checked and they have a Intellivision II on auction for $20 something bucks. That plus this would be a good little pick up I think.

No problem, just that things seem to be devolving a little and just concurred with another member's statement that there are other matters to be arguing over. However, I have been following all 400+ pages of the Atari VCS thread, so I am cool with whatever.
-
Nope, not what I was saying at all. Everybody has the given right to voice one's opinion in the good 'ole U.S. of A. However, there are a lot of other matters that we should be actively voicing our opinion on. Just my thought. Nothing more than that.

Throwing my two cents into the pile, we all need to be thankful that there is another ColecoVision system for newbs and/or die-hard fans to enjoy. If you agree with and like what Colectorvision is doing, check them out and/or buy their product. If you don't like what Collectorvision is doing, don't check them and/or buy their product. That's it. Plain and simple. Please refrain from preaching and long diatribes. Like xybot67 said, there are more important issues in this world (to fight over) than ColecoVision.

It is said that looking further into the past can help one see more into the future. I can dig wanting to use the CV logo to recognize the past while moving forward into future. Definitely I am looking forward to seeing this project come further along and into a full production.
-
Personally, I am not privy to any decision making Collectorvision has done, but obviously they had the opportunity to formally use the ColecoVision name and chose to do so. I can't really fault them for that. Also, I don't believe there is anything to be gained from a technical standpoint, but if you can formally use the ColecoVision name in order to distinguish yourself from others, why not.

Here is my go at this: Model 1 with 32x. Games would be Virtual Racing Deluxe, Road Rash, Mutant League Football, NHL 94, Joe Montana Sports Talk Football II, and General Chaos

We all know that the owners of the Colecovision brand have been douches to various people. However, if getting their blessing/license helps Colectorvision games make their upcoming console as kosher as possible with all interested parties, that can't be bad thing. I agree that it raises their profile and standing a tad, but at least this isn't an Retro VGS / Atari VCS type of situation, so I am cool with it. I look forward to seeing what they have in store as having new hardware to replace a depleting pool of pre-existing consoles is much welcomed.

The Dead Milkmen. Now that is a band I have not thought about in a long time. 'Bitchin Camaro' is still a great song.

I, for one, was pretty stoked for the Atari Jaguar. However, for one reason or another, I never did get one. In hindsight, considering the lack of games on it, it was a smart move. I could have gone with a PS1 as I played and liked the games on it, but never did get one of those either. However, I now have a fat PS3 with full (emulated) backwards compatibility, so I guess I am covered in the end

Intellivision Entertainment launching a NEW Intellivision console
Hwlngmad replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Personally I think this console has a chance, especially when you are talking about something that will be in the $150 to $175 range that will come preloaded with (mostly) old and (some) new games with the new games being $7 or thereabouts. Honestly, if "budget" titles are considered to be around $30 or so, it makes buy games for less than $10 a no brainer. Hopefully this console comes out sooner rather than (much) later.
