What consoles would you like to see made as a flashback
Hwlngmad replied to maxdrive's topic in Dedicated Systems
I think if AtGames produces a 2600/7800 hybrid FB of some kind, that would have to be given. However, outside of the portables, SD cards haven't arrived yet to the plug-ins. Hopefully that changes this year with the new models. -

I would add it along with the 2600 offering. While a separate 7800 flashback would be cool, it just doesn't have the clout nor cache the 2600 does. However, putting them in addition to 2600 titles (say 20 7800 and 120 or more 2600 games) would probably be something AtGames could feasibly do. -

I would agree. An Apple II and/or a Neo Geo retro console would be a hit. The others not so much, but considering retro items are getting very hot and mainstream, you never know. -

Also, obviously, an Apple II type device would knock it out of the park. No doubt on that. -

Here is a list of potential flashbacks that I think would have (some) consumer viability. They are: 1) Vic-20 2) Sega Master System 3) Turbo Grafx-16 4) Sega Game Gear 5) Neo Geo These are in no particular order, but I definitely think one or two of these could be a smashing success if they saw the light of day. -
AtGames 2018 speculation thread
Hwlngmad replied to OscarGungan's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I am definitely looking forward to the new products. Also looking forward to what 2019 will bring as I have contemplated getting a Genesis portable, but may hold off until then as I am looking forward to its upgrade as well as a potential new Intellivision FB. -
Loved Mr. Belvedere. That was a great show and highly underrated.

the official Channel F thread!
Hwlngmad replied to atari2600land's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It was the first second generation video game console. If the console still works and it comes with 10 games, buy it. You won't be disappointed to have a genuine piece of video game history. -
Agreed. We all know the situation of Atari. However, with insights from such people who have first-hand knowledge of what it takes to get hardware into the hands of consumers, Atari is really just using 'smoke-and-mirror' tactics all throughout this process. Also, I wouldn't compare Atari to Apple what-so-ever. Apple never when bankrupt and/or disappeared like Atari has done. Yes, OUYA had 60k backers. However, they managed to get the product into production and in the hands of consumers. Heck, the OUYA was even sold at Best Buy. I don't think Atari has any prayer of this happening. Granted, they could prove me wrong, but I highly doubt it at this point. Personally, while I continue to follow this thread, the Ataribox, now Atari VCS, is done for me as I doubt it will be ever produced and/or worth buying for what it will try and offer.

I will definitely check this out as this looks to be very promising. I briefly had an AtGames CV FB. I like the games it had, but those controllers... Sorry, but they were bad as it was a pain to play games on. This looks awesome and I look forward to seeing it come to fruition.

I am definitely interested in this product and I wish you guys well. I know that Gamester81 has been involved in your products before, so I know that he must be very excited an psyched. Take care and I look forward to receiving further updates as I might just have to pull the trigger and get this after passed on many other retro products.

AtGames Fall 2017 Flashback and Portable Lineup
Hwlngmad replied to Albert's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I would say get the INTV FB2 done first, then just see if there would be enough support for a companion book. Companion books for an Atari 2600 and/or Sega Genesis are low bearing fruit (even one for Neo-Geo should a FB product ever come out), but an INTV companion book might be a hard sell, admittingly. -
AtGames Fall 2017 Flashback and Portable Lineup
Hwlngmad replied to Albert's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Agreed Bill. A 'Flashback' type product won't always have every single great game for the console. Complaining about game selection seems like small potatoes to me. However, being able to expand it to include other games via SD Card, Everdrive, and/or hacking should quell any discontent games wise. -

I second this wholeheartedly. -

Now that would be one heck of a retro console! Hopefully something comes to fruition. I would have to buy that for sure. -
AtGames Fall 2017 Flashback and Portable Lineup
Hwlngmad replied to Albert's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I addition to the issues you mentioned, the game selection has been/is being criticized as well. It is a bit minor in my opinion, as the product overall looks fairly solid. However, I would imagine an Amiga product would have some of these same issues as the The64 Mini is experiencing, as well as not being as noteworthy as the C64 is. -
AtGames Fall 2017 Flashback and Portable Lineup
Hwlngmad replied to Albert's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I agree. A retro Apple II device would work considering the total units sold and longevity of the platform, not to mention the games. However, getting it by Apple is an entirely different matter altogether, hence my doubts about a retro Apple II device ever seeing the light of day. I am surprised the Vic-20 didn't sell as I what I thought, although I have to admit that I didn't research anything beforehand and the machines/platforms above it were in production for many years and had various variations, hence a lot more sales and users. However, I think that the Vic-20 could work as a retro product. I know I am in the minority, but considering how retro products seem to be getting white hot in general, I think it could work. Finally, I would agree that an Amiga product could also be a possibility, too. That being said, it would (most likely) run into the same issues The C64 (Mini) is facing/having, based on the reviews I have seen thus far. -
AtGames Fall 2017 Flashback and Portable Lineup
Hwlngmad replied to Albert's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Considering the list above, where does the Vic-20 fit in on that list? After all, it was quite popular as well until Commodore canned it for the 64. I wonder if there would be any demand for a Vic-20 retro device, as anything about the Apple II, Atari 8-bit, and/or CoCo seems highly unlikely. -
I am in the "wait and see" camp. However, as the "waiting" and not much "seeing" steadily increases, then the needle points more toward the "It's a scam/it's crap/why?" side for me. Fair enough?

Retro-Bit Super Retrocade with Capcom, Data East games
Hwlngmad replied to Flojomojo's topic in Dedicated Systems
Ditto! -
I am interested to see how this product will do. While I understand that it offers nothing really new, it still lines up with the retro offerings today of having a 'plug and play' unit to experience console/computer gaming from the past. However, I would have preferred something similar to the ZX Spectrum Next, but this still looking interesting and will have to see how good it is and if it is worth picking up.

Agreed. AtGames FBs are not supposed to be replacing original equipment. For what they are, they do a pretty good job overall. Could they stand to improve things, sure. From what Bill has stated, it looks like they are trying to do just that. Also, I hope they do another Intellivision FB (and a CVFB, too). I really like what I saw from the first one and hopefully they can do a sequel with even more games loaded onto it.

No, I don't believe so. Wonder why?
