The Official MSX Community Thread!
Hwlngmad replied to Boschloo's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
The MSX is a good computer gaming platform that is underrated here in the States (and probably in the UK at least, too). -

Saw that today. @pjedavison always does a great and amazing job. He also has had an extensive looks into the A8's library, as well as the ST. Anyone who is a fan of either platform needs to check out his channel.

I agree with you Bill. Rather than trying to give off the impression of functionality, just have a version of the device that anyone wouldn't want to touch to begin with. However, I would expect any full size version to take on the look of the 800XL, though if they did an 800 lookalike full size device that would be awesome as you gotta love the 70s aesthetic that oozes out of the 400.

Throwing my two cents into the discussion, I would recommend getting an MSX2. Sure, you can play lots with the MSX1, but the true sweet spot for the system was the MSX2. Regardless, take care and best of luck in your endeavors as the MSX line of computers are pretty cool and a very capable gaming platform.

zx spectrum line Any American Speccy fans around?
Hwlngmad replied to r_chase's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Not sure if they ship international, but this is a good ZX Spectrum solution for those seeking it. https://zxrenew.co.uk/ZX-Omni-c48969124 -
Will check out the Shaguar episode soon enough. Take care and we appreciate all that you do.

Ali Express Emulator Consoles Thread
Hwlngmad replied to Living Room Arcade's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I still have an Anbernic 351mp. It is a really solid device that emulates up to PS1. However, since I now have a Razer Edge with a loaded up 512gb SD card with retro gaming goodness along with a Steam Deck OLED with a 1tb SD card loaded up with even more retro gaming goodness I will be looking to get rid of it soon. Still, I do recommend getting one of them if one hasn't already taken the plunge on a device beforehand. They are mindblowing, especially when one thinks about the fact that some of these now have the capability to emulate systems up to Dreamcast that cost less than a $100. Truly awesome. -

Amen Bill. Atari has lots of things at its disposal and products like this (along with the games they have been releasing) are most welcomed. I / We can only hope that there is lots more yet to come.

Again, I call the video game crash "bullsh*t".
Hwlngmad replied to CartridgeStealer's topic in Atari General
People who think that there wasn't a video game crash in the United States (i.e. North America) need to quit sniffing glue. They are probably the same that don't think we (meaning the U.S.) didn't go the moon either. -

Hwlngmad replied to r_chase's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I am a native Oklahoman, and while I don't play any Speccy games per se, I do appreciate it from afar. That being said, I do play an old Speccy game that has been ported to Android really, really well called Chaos: The Battle of the Wizards. It is an awesome game that doesn't necessarily offer a ton of depth, but a ton of replayability. Check it out if you haven't done so. -

I would recommend shooting for the new RG35XXH. Also, the RG355XX Plus or the Miyoo Mini Plus would be good choices. -
"Great" Games That You Don't Like

Donkey Kong (1981) Never could get into that game and rarely got past the first screen. Just don't see the appeal even today. -

So, is the GBC version of Monopoly that good? I ask as I know that the NES version is supposed to be an excellent rendition, but haven't played either of the two. Any insight would be appreciated. -

Definitely some more ST games would be great, that's for sure.

It was a mix that featured some absolute classics with AVGN material trash. But, seeing as how I was and would completely move onward from the NES (at that time) I thought it was an awesome trade that I still can't believe happened 'till this day. I was one lucky kiddo for sure.

What have you actually PLAYED tracker for 2023 (Season 16)
Hwlngmad replied to carlsson's topic in Classic Console Discussion
While I am sure this will go on the 2024 tracker, here are yesterday's (1/3) totals: Arcade 1) Pac & Pal - 10 minutes 2) Pac-Land - 10 minutes 3) Pac-Man Arrangement - 15 minutes -
At one point I had 80 games for the NES. Once I got the Genesis and went away from the NES, my dad made me get rid of the games. I was able to trade the 80 games for a TurboGrafx-16 with the CD-ROM add-on. Best trade ever imo.
