  1. Can I ask you why did you get interested?

Usually one goes into "obscure" territory once he's done with mainstream, the depth at which each one dips into obscurity differs.

My reason for going into some obscurities of the '90 (PC-FX, FM-Towns Marty, CD32, GX-4000) was that I had collected the rest (including a Jag-CD) may as well experience something "different" [and couldn't really get much into 8bits or late 70s aside the usual suspects] .... I almost got myself also a Pippin, CDTV and Super A'can but managed to stop as my trend was at that point obvious to me .... discover something obscure, obsess about it, put it in the back-burner for a few months, buy it anyway, giddy-up once it shows up at the door .... then feel absolutely nothing and jump onto the next one just because I could.

What are your reasons? Or expectations?

    For example:

my reason for the Pippin was because of the ports of Marathon and Marathon 2 from Bungie, the precursors of the Halo franchise on the XBox(es)

the CDTV just because it is more compatible with Xenon II CDTV than a CD32 (obviously but ....)

Super A'can just because it's so weird/niche and at the time for other reasons I had been in Taiwan 3 times in 2Y

Great questions and comments thank you. To sum it all up: yes, I have become very bored with what is considered mainstream and what the majority likes to talk about, review, and play. Im open minded to failed consoles or systems that are not talked about as much. Im also open minded to a variety of different games because to me there is no such thing as a bad game (like movies), the only thing that makes a game bad is if its boring. Im also one of those people that like the so bad its good kind of stuff lol.

I think its important to remember and celebrate these consoles instead of JUST the run-of-the-mill SNES, Genesis, & 2600, and not let them be forgotten in time. Obviously not everyone will feel the same way about these systems and games, so I feel its people who have an appreciation for the niche will be the ones who pick up the pieces.

  2. Ive recently become very interested in these lesser known and obscure 90s CD based consoles, particularly the:

    Apple Pippin

    Bandai Playdia

    CDTV

    Memorex VIS

Was wondering if anyone grew up with one or more of these or collects for any of them now? Theres always YouTube review videos and wiki articles but Im more interested in personal experiences with the systems and games for them, maybe advice or suggestions for aspiring collectors, any info will do! Hope theres others that share my same interest in these consoles!

  3. Ah, the TV boy, The first plug and play (well technically the first plug and play was whatever the first pong console was to be released after the Odyssey). Doesnt get enough credit (historically) in my opinion. Even those most hate those plug and plays made by Jakks pacific, they have their place in gaming as well.

Holy Sssnake, it's finally here! The website that nobody demanded!

Supervision: handheld of the less fortunate

    www.diskman.com/presents/supervision

If you're familiar with the Supervision, you're probably laughing right now.

If you're not familiar with the Supervision... oh boy, are you in for disappointment.

This website is the result of 15 years [!] of research and collecting, and today (Oct. 4th, 2018) is its world debut.

    I'm sorry. :_(

There's also lots of other nifty, geeky, classic gaming stuffs on the main site, which you may enjoy a lot more than this Supervision nonsense...

    www.diskman.com

Thank you so much for this! I love when someone is devoted to a more obscure system and shares their passion for it and wealth of knowledge, great stuff!

I have the same affinity to the (somewhat forgotten) View Master Interactive Vision (pity me😂) 👍 😁

  5. My apologies in advance I saw another thread talking about this but cant find it now. This has to do with the Red Sea cart that recently sold on eBay for $3,900.00 the other day. So has this cart been verified as legit? Also is this only the second cart to have surfaced? The first one to have surfaced was brought to attention on AA correct? What a legendary thread that was!

  6. Im brand new to the 5200 scene and have the opportunity to buy a console and a (supposedly) working joystick original. Just curious as to what joysticks, be it original, homemade, or alternatives everyone likes to play with? I want to get an idea of what Im getting into and would like to know how easy (or difficult) it might be to obtain some of this hardware. Thanks!

  7. Not a board game, per se, but there is a PS1 (I think it was PS1) game that had a robot building aspect to it. You would build a robot out of parts that came in a kit, interchangeable torsos and legs and arms and such, then what you built would show up in game for you to fight with. Don't remember the name but have seen it in YouTube videos a few times.

Of course this is more going down the path to something like the Skylanders or Disney Infinity or Amiibos or whatever...

Thats right MetalJesusRocks did a video on it a while back!

  8.

    This.

FWIW loose Super Pongs are usually pretty inexpensive, as are Ultra Pong systems. And of course there's the golden rule of "first edition" pricing, so you can expect to pay far out the ass for an original Atari Pong*, although how far exactly can be indeterminate.

Say, John, since we're here and talking about Atari Pong systems, you're probably the guy to ask: do you by any chance own an Atari Pong Doubles (C-160) system, or know of any pics/scans or other information on it? According to David Winter/Pong-Story.com, it was never actually released, but a photo of the box exists (and a Sears version called "Pong IV" supposedly came out). I'd like to learn more about it but there's basically no information out there on it. I figure if anybody actually owned one or knew anything about it, it would be you. :P :-D

(*Ironically, the Sears version actually launched before the Atari version but is worth less.)

By the way, Shout out to David Winter and Pong Story. That man does Gods work. He needs an appreciation thread lol. If you have any interest in Pong I suggest checking his site out. The rarity guide is unbelievably fun to go thru learning about new pong systems. Oh boy there were oh so many! Does he or has he ever posted here? Youd be the guy to ask Bass its seems like youve been on AtariAge since the dawn of time much respect!

  9. Besides the 3 games on the odyssey 2, does anyone know of any other games from the 70s-90s that were board game hybrids (besides the ones on the ORIGINAL magnavox odyssey)? I always thought it was such a neat concept and VCR board games seemed to be somewhat popular in the 80s so Im surprised it didnt catch on more and there werent more games like the ones on the odyssey 2.

It would be neat to see a modern homebrew like this, unless some have been made please enlighten me! Thanks :-)

  10. I still have mine from way back when. This system was my introduction to the 2600. I believe we got it from a auction for a local public television station that my mom helped out on back around 83. So this was the first system I ever had, along with Pac Man and Asteroids, which I also still have. I prefer the controller for the Gemini over the 2600one, just because I used it so much growing up. Great system. Also, my system came with Mouse trap and Donkey Kong and had a round sticker on the back of both saying "Bonus Cartridge included with Gemini. Non-Refundable." And it still works great after all these years.

I really enjoyed this post, thank your for sharing!
