That makes sense, and thanks for the info as I also have an SD2SNES. However, I find it odd that those are classified as overdumps, rather than something like NameOfGame+Bios or another indicator that it includes something useful, not just extra unused space from the end of the chip, or some kind of dumping error. Now makes me wonder what other ones are useful, as I thought an overdump was typically identical to the 'good' rom, but less verified and larger (for what I thought was no good reason, such as untrimmed DS roms). They should really indicate that better, but then they don't listen to me! :)

Totally agree. I use to preserve the overdumped ROMs, just in case.

Yeah I've also wondered what the point of keeping bad dumps is, when there's a good one available. I also didn't understand the need to keep overdumps. Anything that doesn't work, or isn't functionally different in any way is useless to me. Most rom sets include these too. Is there any actual purpose other than for pack rats to fill hard drive space with? I'm a pack rat, but only of things I might actually see myself using for some reason some day. Thinking about clearing all these roms from my storage. A little off topic, but yeah never got the point.

The only time I've had to use overdumped ROMs has been recently, to make SuFami Turbo games work on SNES emulators and SD2SNES flashcart. For any reason, they require fusing 4x SuFami Turbo BIOS + game ROM to work, and such files appear as [o1] ROM versions in the GoodSNES romset.

Is there like a solid one shot archive where to download every single PD game made for the NGPC? I had tried those badly made multi-carts but they don't work on a proper kit like this one.

GoodNGPx v3.27 Romset, marked as '(PD)'.

I always thought [!] meant verified GOOD dump. I'm not sure if GoodRoms uses a different convention, but I've always gone by that and prefered roms with [!] in them, and never had an issue on any of my flash carts with those. I know some are GoodRoms sets. Going by the conventions mentioned here, it should mean good (once again, unless GoodRoms uses it for the opposite):

'[!]' means 'right, unaltered ROM' according to GoodROM convention. But also notice that '[p1]' stands for 'pirate', so expect that kind of ROMs to be likely to show issues (maybe due to ilegitimal mapper usage, strange cart functioning, etc.).

  4. Thanks for the info, SainT!

That's why I'm eager to get the Neo-Geo Pocket SD on my hands! ;-)

The ROM is actually 1MB, I can only assume it was trimmed because the last 512K isn't used. However the physical layout of the save sectors is different between 1MB and 512K flash chips, as the boot sectors are at the end of the flash. And don't use emulators as a test for whether things are right -- the reason the Delta Warp ROM works on emulators it does is because there is a hack in there to set the ROM size to 1MB when it's read in... :)

  5. Smart move. I wish I thought of that as I used to go with that trick years ago for problem stuff. I guess it does make sense since it's supposed to just be kind of filler space for the save to just copy onto the back end of itself that way to do it.

Yeah! As of yet, I can confirm it works on emulators. I think maybe an 1MB overdumped version of the ROM is also likely to work, but I only have that of the Demo version, named as 'Delta Warp (J) (Demo) [o1].ngc' from GoodNGPx v3.27 ROMset.

  6. Yeah, I was playtesting Delta Warp and found the issue, as said, because all the dumps were only 512k in size. You can easily make a 512k game into 1MB by going to a command prompt and typing:

    COPY /B FILE1.BIN+FILE1.BIN FILE2.BIN

Oh, that's true! I forgot using that old MS-DOS command line...

It works! Now it only remains to receive my Neo-Geo Pocket SD to test it the proper way.

    Thank you very much, @Mayhem ! :-)

  7. Yeah we found this during testing. All dumped roms I had were the same way which I thought was odd... Even the NoIntro rom and the so called good dump in the good set. I didn't have a physical copy to dump but it's good to know that it should dump properly.

The fix is to pad the rom out to 1mb which 'restores' the save area on the rom and resolves the issue.

How could the original 'Delta Warp (J) [!].ngc' ROM (from GoodNGPx v3.27 Romset) be padded to 1024 KB? Any recommended utility to perform this task?

    Thanks so much!

  8. Just a couple of questions:

    - Is there any limitation regarding the speed specification of the microSD card? i.e., when using slower (with no "Class" specification, say < 1,5 MB/s) old 1GB ones on the Neo-Geo Pocket SD flashcart, are the flashing/data saving processes affected?

    - Does the firmware support a folder structure on the SD card to browse and pick up a ROM to be flashed from?

    Thanks in advance!

  9.

SainT, I think your SD solutions both for WS and VB would be a great deal. The situation is the same as for the NGP: There exist flashcarts, but no SD-based, hence new modern, SD-based ones are welcome and expected by most users.

Anyway, thank you very much for your incredibly awesome work, as well as for listening to the community! :)

  10. Ok, I've re-written the menu so that it works on the B&W and just used the upper palette compatibility mode to add a bit of colour for the game type icon when used on the colour models. The cart does fit and work in all models, but it just needs a little more work so its a bit easier to insert on the slim model. It seems the slim is the tightest fit on the angled edges on the cart that stop you trying to insert it upside down.

Getting very close to getting this finished now. :D

Impressive! You are shockingly fast as hell!

    Great job! Congratulations!

  11. Hi all!

I'm new on AtariAge and have just registered to thoroughly follow the development of this awesome flashcart, as well as learning and contributing as much as possible to this great community. On the Atari side, I have to say that my first videogame console was a clone Atari 2600 Jr. which currently I lovely preserve and enjoy playing to. The existing Lynx SD flashcart also developed by SainT is making me wish an Atari Lynx, too, in the same way the incoming Jaguar SD flashcart does with this system. ;-)

As I said on your YouTube channel, I was just hoping for an SD-based flashcart solution for my little Neo-Geo Pocket Color Slim, and now I see my wish has finally come true. Congratulations for your awe-inspiring job, Sir SainT! It's incredible and looks simply great and perfect. Thank you so much for putting your time and efforts into this endeavor! Just subbed your channel and registered my interest on your website.

Finally, as a suggestion for future projects, I'd be very much interested in a WonderSwan (Color) SD-based flashcart, as the current one from FlashMasta doesn't flash games from the SD card.

Looking forward to its final release for purchasing! Of course, I offer myself for beta-testing if required, as an user from Spain having an NGP Color Slim.

Again, thank you very much for inhaling new life to our retro systems!
