  1. What's the hold up in getting your account fixed? Meanwhile "Ashley Aubra Jones" is posting T&A all over your profile. -JP
  2. From an old Pro! node list in https://ia800801.us.archive.org/26/items/PROBBSnews/pbnv1n2.txt Node 47: Inside the 8-Bit 404-798-2474 Node 53: The Repair Shop 801-967-8738 -JP
  3. According to their FAQ, they currently have no plans for supporting other platforms. But maybe someone else will take up an Android version at some point. -JP
  4. Muffinterm is a BBS terminal program for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. On this day, February 28th, 2023, a new version of Muffinterm is released that supports ATASCII. This makes Muffinterm the first mobile BBS term program to support ATASCII! As of this writing, Muffinterm is an app available for free from the Apple App Store. Some screenshots are available here.
  5. Atari BBSing has gotten even easier for those who have an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Muffinterm, a free term program available from the Apple App Store, now supports ATASCII! Check out my post in the Atari BBS Gurus Club for some screenshots here. -JP
  6. Atari BBSing has gotten easier for those who have an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Muffinterm, available from the Apple App Store, now supports ATASCII. So far, I have not found any problems with their ATASCII emulation; it just works. The best part is that Muffinterm is free! Here are a couple screenshots I made on my iPhone:
  7. Sadly, the Backyard Board went offline for good in 2022 (possibly in April or May of 2022).
  8. On this day in 1989, Orion Microsystems releases BBS Express! Pro! 2.0a BBS Software. This version of BBS Express! Pro! included Y-Modem Batch Support, a new file browser that allows the user to mark files for Y-Modem Batch Download, baud rates up to 19200, a high speed screen handler, and an overlay processor that theoretically allows BBS modules up to 180K in size (source: BBS Express Pro! 2.0a release notes). Below is an image of an archived message from Part-Time BBS which announces the 2.0 release:
  9. Welcome @kenames99! Nice to have the Express! Cart Wizard here!
  10. Thanks for the information. Was he a beta tester in the beginning (i.e., during Orion Microsystems ownership)? I do not recognize the name. Did he use a handle back in the day? What was the name of his BBS? -JP
  11. @Bikerbob Did you at least visually inspect the PROM to make sure it's seated correctly? That was the point of my message. It seems a poorly seated PROM causes strange behavior/lockups. -JP
  12. Since you can get past the configuration when you use SIO2PC+APE, this may not apply... but I thought I'd share it anyway: @moonlight_mile could not get past the following screen when he first got his Express Cart: He had to re-seat the eprom in his cartridge. He concluded... "One of the pins on the eprom was a little bent over and not in the socket. Straightened that out and now I can access the dial list." You may want to make sure the eprom is seated correctly in your cartridge if you haven't already done that. -JP
  13. If you are running a single user BBS that does not already provide a "busy" message when someone tries to log onto the BBS when it is in use, then you need busyBBS. It's free and available at the following link: https://southernamis.wixsite.com/website/busybbs
  14. The other issue with SIO2SD is that it is an SIO device that shares a bus line with the modem. So, I/O can be slow since the modem needs to be suspended when the disk is in use and vice versa. The same problem occurs with Fujinet which is also an SIO device. This is also the reason why running a modular BBS, like BBS Express Pro!, is slow on Fujinet unless you use something other than the onboard SD Card for storage (e.g., a hard drive, a SIDE Cart, etc.). -JP
  15. Size isn't a problem. It's speed. Also, BBS Express! Pro! requires SpartaDos 3.2 which does not run well with the SIO2SD's acceleration. You have to run the SIO2SD at normal speeds. Since large "modular" BBS programs like BBS Express Pro! make frequent reads/writes to disks, it runs slow. -JP
  16. Nice to see and hear from you again! I was worried we may have lost you to a dumpster diving accident. -JP
  17. No colon on Altirra; just a space between the IP address and port. On Altirra, the format is "ATDI (IP address) (port)". If you have enough space, then use the domain name form (e.g., ATDI basementbbs.ddns.net 9000). Otherwise, use the numeric IP address (e.g., ATDI 24.22.120.147 9000). You can get both forms from the Atari BBS list off the SFHQ website (http://sfhqbbs.org/ataribbslist.php). There's a button at the top of the web page that toggles which Internet address form it displays. -JP
  18. It really doesn't matter how BBS Express Pro! does it. It's a completely different BBS program. But for what it is worth, this is what I had to do for BBS Express Pro! Since Altirra only understands ATDI for connecting to a BBS over the Internet, I had to create a little "bridge" module that makes the actual connection. The networking module only supports ATDP or ATDT dial strings. And unfortunately, the dial string is not just something you can edit in the module object code with a hex editor. So, the bridge that I wrote makes the connection, launches the original networking module which dials "1", and then connects to the other BBS. It's a little more involved than that, but that's essentially the gist of it. Of course, if you are using native hardware, then most Internet modem devices understand ATDT, so you don't have to do anything special to support Altirra's ATDI. Since Carina is written in Basic, I suspect the networking portion could easily be modified for Internet connections, no? -JP
  19. We got a @Mazzspeed sighting! Hey, Mazz, why have you been so quiet lately (especially on the Atari BBSs)? -JP
  20. Here's an idea... how about you "under promise and (hopefully) over deliver" instead of "over promise and under deliver"? That way, people like Luckybuck aren't let down when you give them disappointing news. In other words, just say "I'll look for it" instead of "I probably have it". -JP
  21. You mean the dongle (i.e., the lever) is used after the Force! 😆 -JP
  22. The dongle should be the toilet lever. 😆 -JP
  23. Russ is really your last hope? So, you will finally give up on this search if/when Russ comes up empty handed? 😆 -JP
  24. Bummer. I still have a copper phone line connected to the Basement BBS. They are becoming a rarity. But it still works great for my dial-up users. -JP
