Another amazing work... I'm impressed theres a bunch of sprites like the tanks moving along with the ship without a huge amount of flicker. Is there a rom for Super Cobra Arcade for downloading?
-
I wonder the legalities of it too.. could Dintar816 get royalties from AtGames for using his version? (I hope so!) BTW I hope this new Flashback portable is improved and can play games from SD the original version couldn't.

And all you needed was a deep-voiced DJ announcer going "Now you can play the arcade hit at home!... From AtariAge!!!"

AV connector for Atari Flashback Portable
WildBillTX replied to funkheld's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
I used a cable similar to the one Mountain king has that was for an old Canon Powershot camera and it worked fine. -
If you weren't growing up in the 80's you dont know the liberating feeling of being able to record TV shows and movies and watch them whenever you wanted to.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like this is from 1983-4, when Atari was discounting the 2600, and Commodore still was promoting the Vic-20. My brother had a Goldstar color 12" TV back then, worked good with the 2600 and C-64. Those budget Korean-made TV's like Goldstar and Emerson were popular in my college dorm. Those Certron cassettes... cheap crap.

It's fun to think that the 1982 Pacman was one of the biggest disappointments for the 2600 and we now have several nice versions.. I'd wait for Dintar812's 8K game to be released, the flicker of the monsters has been reduced over his 4K version, and I believe he was planning to add some extra speed features.

Atari Flashback Portable!
WildBillTX replied to Byron's Reviews's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
BTW does anyone know how long it takes for the battery to be fully charged? I've been playing some some roms on it. Found out that the latest version of Ed Fries Rally104905.bin wont play at all (it only displays the radar screen) and Galaxian-Expanded-gfx-hack-espire8(NTSC).bin has a doubling of aliens on the screens. -
Atari Flashback Portable!

It finally arrived at Bed Bath & Beyond in Longview TX. I'm now charging it up and adding roms to a SD card! The new Mattel Football and Basketball look just like the 70's versions, but they replaced the blips and beeps with digital sound samples, Not cool! To me that was a part of their charm, my high school banned them in 1979 because the beeps drove the teachers and cafeteria ladies crazy! -

The box looks beautiful, what does the cartridge label look like?

Wow! Who did the artwork for the box?

Atari Flashback Portable!

Then that means it wont play games like Pitfall II or Space Rocks. And there's no firmware upgrading? Still thanks for keeping the price low. -

It looks sweet, but I doubt it will play most of the DPC+ Atariage homebrews. -
Ed's Rally-X was previewed in Gaming History Source's "Let's Compare Rally-X" video.

To those complaining "it's not finished!" buy yourself a Harmony Cartridge and have fun with the beta roms.

Is the Brazilian SMS being made by Nintendo? Otherwise all these new Famicon, SMS, NES and SNES consoles I've seen are clone systems like the Retron 5.

I agree, it was a big shock to read that review in EG after a year of positive reviews. Pac-Man's badness also help start word-of-mouth among the gaming community (aka "dont buy that game, it sucks"). A better programmed Pac-Man (like Ms Pac Man was) would have helped keep sales for the 2600 going for another year or two. I but I dont think it would have kept the 2600 from losing fans to home computers and newer consoles. That the 5200 never took off may have been the biggest mistake Atari ever made.

Very nice! You have the first Pong console I had, the Coleco Telstar Ranger.
-
I like the full-sized labels like Starcastle too but the template styles are also cool when they look like something Atari, Activision, Coleco etc would have released back in the 70's and 80's. Overall I think the label design should be the game author's choice. These cartridge label contests have been a lot of fun.

Awesome game and so much fun! Plays much smoother than Parker Bros 2600 Super Cobra did. My only little gripe after playing it for a few days now is that it needs a continue mode. My fondest memory of Scramble was watching some guys playing it at Shane's Games in my hometown back around 1981-2. They must have used 50+ tokens to finish all 6 waves.

2600 games that astounded you back in the 80 ' s (or even 90's)
WildBillTX replied to ave1's topic in Atari 2600
Missile Command - I came home from college in 1982 to find my brother playing it on our brand new 2600. Freeway - My first Activision game. I was impressed with it in 1982 because it had all these cars and trucks on the screen. Frogger - WOW that introduction music! Asteroids Demon Attack Spider Fighter - a great fast game that sadly gets overlooked. Enduro Beamrider Jr, Pac-Man - Because it was so tough. -
I thought Atari demanded to Frye that Pac-Man must be a 2-player game (update: I just checked - I was wrong). But anything more would have helped his version. Still I think its awesome that Tod likes Dintar816's version. Too bad he didn't have the tools programmers do now and the right corporate environment. BTW I noticed on v5b the cut scenes music is also improved, great job on that too!
