Do you play old game saves from thrift store finds?
82-T/A replied to tz101's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, I usually check them out. I don't usually play them because the last thing I want to do is play Dragon Warrior II as a female named Yaz... but I do always at least check them out just to see what they've got and where they are... -
Free Atari games at Taco Bell...
82-T/A replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hey Kurt, Do you know when this promotion begins? Is it in the drive-through only? This is too bad-ass... I'm going to ask my wife to go to Taco Bell on the way home from work next time... -
Ultima VI: The False Prophet

Al, I totally agree. I think I'm in a different state of mind though since I've never really played the older Ultima games before. For me, playing the early games (1-3) would be pretty boring for me. I want to play them regardless, and figured the way to get through them sooner is to use the walkthroughs as I get stuck. This will prevent me from languishing in a game that I'm having trouble getting excited about anyway. I think it's odd that I end up flying in space in many of the early ones, but whatever. I've never used any of these walk throughs on the other games, 7 or 7 part 2, or UU1 and UU2. That said, I've never beaten them... but as with all of them, I usually get to about the end of the game, and then either I move, or I start a new job, or something comes up in life and I end up blowing out my machine or something and lose my progress. So I'll probably use them again this time, even though... for example, in Ultima Underworld 2, I pretty much know where everything is for 90% of the game... even all the secrets. Very cool! I'll check this out!!! -
Rob?!?! Buddy, is that you??? It wasn't my fault the label was damaged!!!

Not content with letting this awesome Ultima thread die... I've decided I'm going to say the hell with spending time with my family, mowing the lawn, cleainig the house, or fixing my VW Bus and Pontiac Fiero... I'm going to try to get through Ultima 1. As it turns out, there is a SOLUTIONS manual that's meant to be sold as a counterpart to the Ultima Collection CD (1-. I just got it in the mail today, and since I also have MoSlow now... I think I'm going to give it a try and spend this entire weekend playing Ultima and ignoring my work e-mails. -
Holy crap did that sealed Stadium Events jump in price!

Oh man, we should totally get a group of people together and dig it up. I say if we buss enough people from AtariAge and NintendoAge, we can probably have the whole place dug up! -
Anyone store their NES games like this?

He will SOOO not get laid this way... -
This is a really interesting post because a lot of this has to do with the way the person is raised. AS someone posted just above me, you can get a good indication of how they'' take care of your stuff based on how they take care of theirs. Perfect example is looking at someone's car... Me? I always park in what I call "one-dingers". This is where only one person can park next to you... IE: you park next to a parking median or something. Either that, or I'll park way out in an open parking lot so no one parks next to me. You look at other people's cars, and they have door dings, etc. Many of these people have messed up stuff simply because they aren't very observant... a lot has to do with the personality of the person. They may not know or even realize that their car is trashed, or that they just got a stain on the label of one of the carts you lent them... The other part though, is that many people see these as material things, and therefore don't really consider them that important. To some extent, that's a good philosophy to have, but the problem is that I was always taught that how I feel about something, may not be how someone ELSE feels about something. Basically.. it's not for ME to decide if someone should care as much as they do on how nice an Atari cartridge looks. I was taught to respect people's things... That said, I accidentally did borrow a DVD for 2 years... hahah!!!

Good investment for you. Who says video games are bad for ya! Well, it was never really my intention to make it an investment. I had just hoped to write games and make use of the flashable feature of them... I ended up not even using any of them. That's happened to me a few times... Once, I bought a little scoop that attaches onto the side of the air inlet for the Pontiac Fiero (mid engine, so the air inlet is on the drivers side of the car). I bought teh scoop for $21 bucks... it was made by Holley. They stopped making it, and then I decided I didn't want it anymore... and sold it for over $200 bucks on eBay... then, they ended up remaking them again, and selling them for $21 bucks again... hahah... I kinda felt bad... but whatever. I once had a guy try to pay me almost $400 dollars for a 386 SX laptop!!!? The guy won the bid and I asked him several times if he knew what he was buying... he said he was WELL aware of what he was buying. I felt bad selling a crappy 386 SX-25 laptop for over $400 bucks... so I refunded $200 dollars after I shipped it to him... I guess he had some specific need for it or something...

I registered MoSlo for my other 'Dos Box' as well. P4 overkill Hahah! That is definitely overkill!!! The P2-233mhz I have as my DOS BOX is also overkill... But I got it because I also want to be able to play games like Ultima Underworld 2 and Systm Shock without it going totally crazy. I wonder if SS2 will run under VISTA? -
I had a CC2 that I sold for $500 bucks to a member on here, and I also sold a Krok cart to another member for like $300... I couldn't believe how high in price those things became. I only paid like $100 for each of them when they first came out... I almost feel like I've stolen something!!! But if it makes anyone feel any better, it went towards my daughter's 529 College Education fund...
-
$0.99 And let it go up from there. You will make more in small lots or seperate it all. I also have some TG games/systems/system 3.0 card and import card adapters I like to sell but Im going tolist it here first for trade before Evilbay or GameGavel. Yeah, the thing is, I just don't have the time. I'm willing to give up 20% value just so I can get it out of the house. I'm going back to school, and most of my time goes to my new daughter, school, or work... I honestly haven't been able to play very many games. I just figured since it's doing nothing but sitting in the closet, I'd really just rather get rid of it. I've been selling a bunch of stuff... and I guess this guy is up next on the chopping block...

Well, I just bought SloMo Deluxe. It was $23 bucks. Not bad, considering that it lets me pick the processor I want to emulate... I think it should work well. I like it becuase I've got an SB16/ASP and a Roland Sound Canvas in this DOS machine... something that DOS BOX probably can't emulate... -
Hey guys, I have an NEC Turbo GraFX-16 also... I've been thinking of selling it, but I don't know what to realistically put it up on eBay for. I don't want to be crazy, but I'd like to get what it's worth. I have like 6 controllers, a "Team Tap" or whatever it's called, the TG16, the docking station, the CD drive, and about ~40 games. They include all the Bonks, the Ys games (1-3), and a bunch of other games... most of them on CD. Any idea what I should expect to get for this, or... what i should as the starting bid? Thanks!

Anyone have any old shareware disks?
82-T/A replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Does your dos machine have a CD drive? I suppose you could download DOS games from an abandonware site or some such, burn them to disc, and then copy them unto your old machine. Unfortunately, the CD drive wont read CD-R disks. That was the first thing I tried. Loaded tons of DOS games to a CD, but the computer would not read the disk. I tried replacing the CD drive with a more modern re-writable drive, but the computer would not detect it :-( If you're running DOS (even Windows 95) you'll probably need to load the CD drivers. Honestly, you can use generic "Oak Technologies" drivers. It's like OAK_CD.SYS. All you do is load it in the CONFIG.SYS and then run MSCDEX.EXE in the AUTOEXEC.BAT (comes with DOS). The configuration for that is easy, you simply set the drive letter you want it, and pass the CD "name" from the CD driver. You can do a search on the internet for "Generic CD DOS Driver". -
Yeah... I know... that kind of sucked... didn't change a bit for the past several hours.

Hah!! Please post a response when you get it!!! definitely watching this...

This one is PAL Zwackery. PAL copies are much, much more common. It would be like comparing the PAL BMX Airmaster with the NTSC one. Wow, PAL and NTSC carts have difference in rarity? Holy cow. Is the box and/or manual for a PAL copy different from an NTSC one? I mean Stadium Events. I understand the cart is rare. So if one might find a loose cart, marry it a PAL box & manual, and a complete NTSC copy can be put up for megabucks. Yes, the PAL box is also different. By the way thanks for giving me undeserved attitude for no freaking reason. I have every reason to give you attitude because it reflects how little I think about you and what you write. I'm content to let you post your cerebral disgorgements on AA, I just ignore it and hope that the threads will die (hey, didn't you give that advice in the Spitfire Attack thread?), and I don't comment on your musings. If you would extend me the same "look the other way and keep moving" attitude, I would appreciate it. OK gotcha. Lets see if I understand this correctly about the post. You think very little of me. So unless you also think very little of yourself, than you basically think you are better than me. But hey I already knew that. I actually looked up the word Disgorgements. From what I gather it is a form of the word Disgorge. According to Miriam Websters dictionary Disgorge means ": to discharge or let go of rapidly or forcefully." So if I am not mistaken this is a fancy way of saying I have Diarrhea of the mouth. OK, I admit it I do write off the top of my head. I also admit I can be defensive. But does this really give you the right to treat me with disrespect? Again, what have I done to disrespect you? Really, what have I done. You have many times over the years ripped into me. Sometimes warranted, and other times like right now, not so warranted. Your argument is because you think so little of me, than it is warranted in this situation. And I guess in your mind it would be like a child correcting a parent, or a lower level employee correcting a CEO. OK, fair enough this is your perspective. But finally you say to look the other way with your posts. Mainly because you have to look away so many times with my posts. So in essence you are saying don't correct me, and I won't screw with you. OK, fair enough, I am cool with the truce. I will do my best never to ever correct you on these boards. Heck I'll do even better, and I will do my best never to quote you on these boards as well. Maybe if I agree with you, or you have done something pretty cool,or if offering condolences I will say something. OK, fair enough, and have a great day. this is getting very confusing trying to follow the conversation when there is so many quotes I know, crazy isn't it? I say we disgorge this thread (yeah, I know... I'm not helping!!! hahah..)

Hah... rich people are the ones who gave the loans to these companies that allowed them to produce games, which in turn allowed us to buy them, which in turn made other people rich too. We can't all get trophies in life...

There are utilities that will do this, and DOSBox will let you tweak the machine speed: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Dosbox.conf#.5Bcpu.5D ..Al Thanks Al, I actually don't have any form of Windows installed on that machine, just DOS 5.0 with Memmaker from DOS 6.0 copied over. (not sure I remember how I got that working, but I used to be smarter). I just looked up MoSlow again: http://moslo.info/deluxe.asp Apparently they DO have processor emulation, exactly like how I said it should be: -

True, the speed might be the biggest problem with the food. I went through 3 computers before finishing that game. The first had the slowest compatible processor (386SX-16) - deciding to walk across town was a major commitment. The 2nd computer was fast but unstable (486DX2-66), and by the end I was on a Cyrix 6x86 133MHz ("P166+"), which was very much too fast. I had to use that "Mo'slo" utility to make it playable. Mo'slo isn't a perfect solution either, because it has a limited effect. If you try to slow down too much it tends to lock up the system instead. It amazed me how many Ultima sequels they made before they realized CPU speed isn't a constant. They didn't get that through their heads until Ultima 8, which finally had a throttling function. Yeah, this is a problem I have with Ultima 6 also... I have a P2 set up with DOS 5.0 on it as my "game" machine, which I haven't used in years, just sits under teh desk. I remember playing Ultima 6 and I'd take four steps and it would be nighttime already... Someone should produce a SLOW-utility that does two things: 1 - Lets you select the type of computer processor you're trying to emulate... IE: 8088, 286, 386 SX, 386 DX, etc... 2 - Look at the computer you're running it on, and adjust the values for the options in #1 accordingly. It shouldn't be TOO hard... ??? -

I'm thrilled for this guy, it'll help pay for his two daughter's college education... But I just don't get how or why someone would spend this money on something with so little useable value. To each their own... I know... I have to keep remembering that. I've been there... well... (minus the 40 grand to spend on a game), but I've been in the mindset where I had to collect everything related to video games. Truth be told, I almost never played anything... but I had every system you could imagine, and I tried to get as many games as possible. I've been selling ALL that stuff over the past few months now. I don't know... we just had our first child a little over a year ago, and it's been an eye opener. These video games are just so not important in the grand scheme of things. I think a lot of nerds (like me) envision having a massive collection and eventually having some big basement or house to have them all set up at so I can go and play any time I want. Then, in later years, opening up a video game museum. What realistically happens, is you die a sad death with tons of crap that family members either donate to local thrift stores, or you grow up and blow it all out on eBay. Hahah... I'm consolidating my "collection" to just keeping the stuff that's actually important to me. That's stuff like a working NES 8-Bit, my entire Jaguar collection, keeping my 2600 games and a couple of 2600s... keeping my Missile Command Arcade machine, maybe my Sega Saturn, and a Super Nintendo... and then getting rid of everything else. -

82-T/A replied to Christophero Sly's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ah-ha! That makes sense. I didn't start the game with one, so it must be something you have to buy. Thank you for clueing me in there. I was really confused. The game's graphics were pretty amazing for the time... but I realize it's now already almost 20 years since the game came out... (can't friggin believe it). One of the things that may be happening too (with regard to the food) is that the clock speed of your computer is making time go by too fast. The game was really designed for like... a high end DX 386 or a low end 486. Anything higher than a 486-DX33 and it starts to mess with the game's speed. That said, the biggest problem the game had was loading times while you walked around. Since it was constantly loading the area around you as you approached it, it was constantly chugging along. Because of that... it would actually go SLOW on most 386-DX machines because the game would be skipping, that is... unless you had a decent hard drive and at least 2 megs of ram. You can really tell how messed up the speed is if you watch the NPCs walking around. They shouldn't be darting around or running anywhere. They should be casually walking. It's just one of those things... I bet when I try to replay the game, it'll be much different for me than it was when I first played it. At the time, the graphics were pretty damn decent, and the game play was light-years ahead of pretty much anything else. What makes this game so great is the freedom you have. You can do anything and GO anywhere without being tied down to a specific plot. Ultima-7 Part II is a little bit different... you're more or less guided or kind of forced to complete areas... (or islands). It's been a while since I played that game too. Ultima-7 Part II has slightly better graphics than Ultima 7, but not by much. The graphics seem to be smoother, less jagged, and the character portraits are much more realistic. They're BOTH great games though... Do you have the add-on for Ultima-7? There was an add on adventure pack once you basically beat the game (which I don't think I ever did). -
Pain in the ass, I know, but if you have the room under your desk, have you ever considered maybe a slimline machine? Like an old Dell Slimline Pentium 90 workstation or something? You could use a KVM switch and then just have DOS 5.0 Installed on it. You could run all of your old games effortlessly without problem. You could transfer files VIA CD, or if you're so inclined, you could set up a null-modem cable between the com-ports and transfer them between hyperterminal and PCPLUS or something... That's what I do, and it works really well... although I haven't used it in a year...
-
Games I've beaten this year: 1 - Get your daughter past her first birthday alive! (First edition) 2 - The NOT get laid off this year! (3rd edition) 3 - Maintain a higher than 3.5 GPA! (Reduxe) 4 - Pay Taxes 2009! Overall, it's been pretty good... but seriously, I think the last game I played was System Shock II... unless 5 minutes of Missile Command counts???
