Best Plataform Games for the Super Nintendo
82-T/A replied to A2600's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Dude, no way! There's a Miami Atari User's Group? I'm in Fort Lauderdale, but I work in Miami. What do we do... drinks at Barton G's, and then Joust tournaments in the lobby of the Congress on South Beach? -
Dude, seriously... you are sooo right. Did you see the one where that lady who had the two homes (I think that was the one). There was soo much trash on the floors that they used snow shovels to shovel it out the front door. In the process of shoveling the trash, there were at least 6 or 7 rats that scattered. There was SOOO much rat crap everywhere that I thought the lady's carpet was black. And did you see the cat lady one? They found close to 30 dead cats in her house and garage.... This new season is supposed to be 10 times worse... I'm scared, very scared...

My wife and I occasionally watch this show. It's so shocking that it encourages us to get rid of stuff that we don't use very often. Like getting rid of that odd bowl in the cabinet that doesn't match the rest of the set, or those clothes you never wear anymore. Those people have some serious, serious problems. Most of these people have so much trash that it literally creates a foot-high of filth. It's usually stuff like empty food containers, and just... filth... There was one episode where this dude was living in an apartment. Honestly, it was really just more of an efficiency... You could not see the floor... he couldn't even fully open the apartment door. The bathroom was so disgusting too... I mean... the guy would wipe himself and I guess somehow the dirty toilet paper would just end up on the floor. I think once his toilet clogged or something because the lady that was helping him clean ended up finding poop on the floor in a few places (which was blurred out). It's just outright scary... Anyway, I think I saw that one, "Jake". I think in that one, the kid's father was an alcoholic and had literally thousands of wine bottles all over teh house. The kid was messy too, but it wasn't really his fault... although you could see the kid had his own problems too... Damn... I think people like watching this stuff, because it helps them feel normal. I always feel violated after watching shows like this... hahah.... But I've got to admit... it seems in the past 10 years since reality TV hit the airwaves, there's always crying on all of these stupid programs. Everyone has something to cry about, and they cry about the stupidest stuff. Sure... I'll shed a tear when I'm watching a cool car commerical or a car doing a massive burn-out on SpeedTV or Spike... it's kind of moving... the sheer raw, awesome power of an Oldsmobile 455 big block... But people just have way too many problems on these TV shows...

I think it was fairly recent... like maybe as recent as 2006...

There can be only ONE...

Yeah, I really like my Saturn too... haven't played it in years... but there are some decent games on there. It's hard for me to get involved in those RPGs anymore. I used to play the AD&D gold box series games on the computer back in the day, and played all the Ultima games p through 8... but whenever I would try to get into an RPG game... just doesn't work. I get board, and the realization that I'm going to have to sit there for days and days just trying to earn experience points so I can safely move into the next area just doesn't have the same charm it did when I was 10 or 11 playing Dragon Warrior... -

I don't really play very many games, but the sister has the same idea as the brother (well, I don't know if she does). You can get the Super Game Boy Adaptor for the Super Nintendo and play ALL of the Game Boy games on the SNES. -

I'd definitely pick the Atari Jaguar. I don't really play games that much, but the Jaguar has many new versions of the old classics, and really... who has time to sit down and play a long RPG anymore? It was great when I was 12 during the summer, but as an adult... just not happening... -
........ sigh... what can you say??? The guy doesn't really say what his dream is? Is it to open up a video game store? Or is it to pay for a sex change? About 8 or 9 years ago when I was working retail and broke... my roommate sold a pair of his dirty socks on eBay (with holes in them) to some person in San Fransisco for ~$23 bucks. Kinda nasty, but I guess there's a buyer out there for everything... Helped him pay his portion of the rent. (The dude asked him not to wash them... aaahhh nasty...)

Unless it's too late, I'd like to be added to the list as well. Thanks!

Well... I'm actually a little bit surprised by the values of some of the auctions I've had. The prices still aren't what I would have expected them to be (compared with 5-6 years ago when money was a bit "looser" with most people), however, most of the stuff I've put up on eBay has sold well. I sold a Magnavox Odyessy with about 15 games for $100 bucks. I sold a Coleco Vision w/ 8 games I think, for around $80 bucks. I sold an Intellevision w/ 3 games for around $35 bucks (had some wear, but worked) I sold a Magnavox Odyssey 200 (pong unit) for about $10 bucks. I sold a Commodore Amiga CD32 new in the box for about $70 bucks. I sold a Nintendo 8-bit Power Set CIB for $59 bucks. I sold a bunch of other items too, and the only thing that didn't actually sell was a mint game boy, complete in box (which I re-listed). I've still got at least 10 some odd systems, but I'm slowly parting with them as I allow myself to. I haven't sold anything Atari yet... but I'm thinking I'm probably going to unload one of my 5200s. Which one is better to keep? A 4-port or a 2-port?

3 games were stolen that were in the box, (the last games I played prior to boxing it up,) and they were Asteroids, Combat and E.T. I would be careful, and get a good lawyer quickly. With the way the courts have been going these days... the victims are often considered the criminals. The fact that the theif ended up with a copy of E.T., regardless of whether or not it was through your own action, could lead to significant lawsuit. You could face charges like aggrivated boredom, mental assault, or even entrapment at the very least... Atari had a reason for secretly dumping hundreds of thousands of them in the landfill over night.

Its 1993, you're in charge of the Jag, what do you do?

I agree whole heartedly. It's the same friggin core and there was no reason other than the external access issues you mentioned...which I also agree could have been dealt with in a much more reasonable matter. So, no suprise here. Fact remains, that an 020 would have been a much better 'warm and fuzzy' choice all around for Jaguar. If Atari had a real set of balls they would have left the 'warm and fuzzy' crap out, used a small unified cache between the two and has another core with nothing on it outside of a nice big 8 or 16k local. No video, no sound...just a hard core AI proccesor..... one compiler and assembler. Let's face it...they went with the 68k because they had a shitload of them left over from the ST line, or at very least were in the middle of a buy deal with Motorola. So I revise what I would have done.... Same RISC Core with 8 or 16k local strictly for AI Tom with double buffered blitter regs(and both channels with fractionals) and TRUE dual write backs for the GP regs Jerry with properly working communication unit(not the cheap POS they used) A usuable workable compiler and MAC would have been fine for assembly. The unified bus would have been fine since all three(four if you count the blitter) would have been able to run in TRUE parallel and would have easily handled anything the PS1 could have thrown at it. But... would the cost of the Jaguar still been $250?? or $450??? By the way, you don't have any copies of Gorf left, do you? I'd love to buy one... but I think I missed the boat? I seem to recall there is some kind of problem or... some people were angry, or you were angry, I'm not sure... haha... so if by me bringing this up, then I totally apologize, but I'd love to have a copy of Gorf. -
Heh most of those Targets are still there, the one in Plantation just got a huge facelift. I see Ace of Aces is on the list of games. That was one of the best 7800 games. Never played it ON the 7800, but I did have it for the PC back in the day... great game. I wonder if they also have Sub Battle Simulator.

Holy crap?!?! Really??? I hate to brag here, but in 1996/1997, the stores were giving away games, and I had several hundred dollars burning a hile in my pocket. I think I have at least a few dozen games still in shrink-wrap. Why on earth would someone want to pay $200 for a sealed Double Dragon V? Man, I was so dissapointed in that game. I bought it expecting something like Double Dragon 1 or 2 for the NES... Just found this eBay auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370215764309 This guy has got to be mistaken, or just assumes it's worth more than it is. Most of the games on eBay are pretty reasonably priced... with the new releases and the stuff from B&C costing about what it should... $50+ for a new game released from Songbird, etc... Most of the other stuff is $5 to $30 bucks. Even AVP is under $30. I think this guy is just confused. I can't imagine that DD5 is SOOO rare that it would command almost what Battlesphere would...

I've owned two Jag CDs. One of them made noise, and the other didn't. The one that made noise looked a bit older. I don't have it anymore, but there were a few disignuishing features about it. It had white lettering that told you how to open the lid, and it appeared to have an older serial number. It made noise too in the beginning, but played fine. The other Jag CD I've had, and the only one I currently have now, looks to be newer. The serial number is much higher, and lacks the white printing on he top. It's totally silent, all the time. It dosn't play any differently than the other CD drive did.

I have Space Hulk for the 3DO, played it a few times and it is pretty decent. I really think in some respects the 3DO got quite a few better games simply because it was only CD driven. I just saw the YouTube video for Vaurana's Forces (for the 3DO) and it's pretty cool. One of the guys in the game looks like a fairly famous actor too

Honestly, there are a bunch of games that I like for the Jag, but I'd have to say that the Power Drive Rally game is probably one of the best. I have this game for the PC also on a CD, and the Jaguar one is nearly identical. The only thing about the PC one, (if I can remember) is that it has a "Test Track" or something like that... where you can go through a series of SCCA trials... (going through cones, etc) and you get to pick the car you want from that Yugo looking thing in the beginning to some high powered sportscar...

Agreed.... by the way, my avatar and your avatar have something in common... Hahah...

October 26, 2009: I tried to email/order Wolfenstein without a box and some promo material in the beginning of last week but got no reply. This company had great customer service and order fulfilment back in the day of 800.go.atari! That was a LONG time ago... I'll try to put this as nicely as possible... but I think maybe Peter Curry just became tired and burnt out in the Atari business. We are certainly a cheap bunch, but we're willing to pay for the things we want. Back when I would buy from him regularly in 1996-1999 time frame, he was always very responsive, and very helpful. I spent quite a bit of money with him. The past few years though, especially when he came up with the "name your price" thing that we talked about above, he totally changed. The guy just didn't care anymore. Oh well... his site is still up though, last updated 1/1/2009...

Yeah, the same for me. I remember when I first started actively increasing my collection... it was probably 10 years ago, and I could find Atari 2600 carts all over the place. At the $wap $hop (for those who know about it in Fort Lauderdale, it's a 1 square mile flea market with hundreds and hundreds of tables), nearly 1 out of every 6 tables at the flea market had something Atari for sale. There were some people who would randomly end up with crates or whole containers of video games. I remember buying basically a huge rubbermaid tub for abotu $20 bucks that came with an assortment of cables, two Atari 5200s, some random joysticks for the 2600, a bunch of 5200 and 2600 carts, and all kinds of other stuff. This was typical... Now, I rarely EVER see anything Atari 2600, and when I do, the person who has it normally has no clue what it is, and it's usually mixed with total junk (like at Goodwill or something). But I suppose that's because the usefulness of these items have really ended... at least for the masses, and the non game collectors. I'm in a different stage in my life now too though... I've been collecting for 10+ years, and now I'm selling everything. My Coleco, Commodore CD-32, IntelliVision, and a bunch of other systems are up on eBay. I'm going to put my 5200s up for sale too... just not into it anymore. Kinda sad, but I just have different priorities in my life now. I'm still keeping my Jaguar, my Atari 2600, and a few other systems... maybe Sega Saturn, and Super Nintendo and Nintendo...
