One of the Chilis Restaurants here in Miami Gardens on the corner of University and Pines Boulevard has an Atari 5200 screwed into the wall w/ two controllers, forget the game though. The entire thing is shellacked to the board that it's on along with whatever chotchkies they have attached next to it, an Alfa Probe, some record, and some other crap... Heh...

Hey guys, For these older systems that don't have the auto-switch box (like the 8-bit Nintendo has), what can I do to improve reception? I tried buying some RCA pinout upgrade board for one of my 2600s a couple of years ago from some online place, but the guy NEVER shipped it out, and I ended up asking for my money back like 4 months later (was pretty bummed to say the least). I'd really like to play some of these older games, but just have no way to play them. I have a 52" rear projection, and then another TV, just a smallish 22" flat-screen TV that I bought just for games like this, but the reception is horrible. I have the coax-to-composite adaptor (instead of the TV/GAME switch thing from back in the day), but it doesn't seem to make much difference. What are my options? Anyone know??? Thanks!

How is called this game from the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley"?.
82-T/A replied to Isidor's topic in Atari 2600
Honestly it looks like the Apple 2 or Atari 7800 version of Choplifter... but who knows... it's been a while since I've played it. -
Hahah, the guys on this blog found the sister from that movie, online... http://www.lizardmaster.com/displayone.cfm?docid=2759

Kind of off topic, and not to throw a wrench in your quest to get every game system known to man (yeah, I've been there before too), but they made many, many licensed Atari VCS knock-off systems. One of the ones that I have which isn't Atari or a Sears unit, is the Coleco Gemini. I THINK it's identical to one of the Sears Telegames II units (don't quote me on that), but it's basically just an Atari 2600. I wish I had it in the box, but don't. It has what looks like Atari 7800 pro-line pad controllers. Basically something that looks like what came with the Coleco Vision I guess. I dunno if you're interested in it, but I'm probably going to put it up on eBay in the next couple of days (selling almost everything, including an Atari 5200 4-port and Atar 5200 2-port system boxed...)

In my opinion items should not be decided by "what's the going rate" but rather "what's it worth to me." I say this because maybe you could get $100+ worth of enjoyment or $1. The average person who wants the system is paying close to $30 in convenience costs, but of course you can get a system for $10 if you're in no rush and look around locally (thrift stores, craigslist, pawn shops, flea markets, yard sales, game stores, ect. depending on your community). The system is old so the price is pretty solid and if anything will go down with a few high spikes in the global marketplace. I'd say at the moment if you were planning to buy a classic console, arcade, or computer now is a decent time to look. Yeah, I kind of agree.... I hate to say it, but I'm selling like amost ALL my video games... and well, the Atari 5200 is one of them. I've got two 5200 systems in the box. A 4-Port system in the box, and a 2-port system in the box. They aren't work the plastic their made from right now, (in terms of eBay value)... it sucks... I really hate to sell this stuff, but I'm just in a different phase of my life... I NEVER play any of this stuff, I work full time, I go to school 2 nights a week, I have a daughter, home improvement projects, a car hobby that's also taken a backseat... I'm slowly getting rid of everything... I just put like 5 systems on eBay tonight too... including a brand new never opened Amiga CD32 system... that's not worth anything either. :/ In the end, I'll probably keep all my 2600 games, plus 1 or 2 systems, my Jaguar and all of those games, one NES 8-bit system, a Super Nintendo, my Sega Saturn, and... I dunno, maybe that's it. I have like 50+ games for a NEC Turbo GraFX-16 w/ CD and all the accessories... I'm dying to sell it, but I'm having a real hard time hitting the submit button...

The only changes I would make, I think, are to give the Jaguar a 3D accelerator. I don't think the blitter chip (or am I thinking of the 1040?) really did what it ideally was supposed to. The 3D0, correct me if I'm wrong, had a 3D accelerator, as did the original Playstation. I realize the Jag kind of pre-dates the PS system... but I think if they had just put a LITTLE bit more effort into the 3D acceleration part of the system, the Jaguar really could have been taken to the next level. The reason being is that 3D games were just starting to hit the market (in a big way that is) and that's kind of what killed the Jaguar, but made the PlayStation widely popular. Remember... Sony didn't have ANY branding back then... all of their early games were computer game ports, and console coversions. Just like the 3D0, but they did it better... I'd also make it that Jack Trameil (or Sam, or whichever brother) actually PAID the 3rd party companies, and didn't screw them over (which hurt his system for future titles). Plus, I'd probably makae the Jag CD a bit cheaper, if not built into the system already...

Yeah, just want to add that it should be painfully obvious which one you have because the power adaptor that works (the one from the Sega) looks 100% like the one from the Jaguar... they are actually identical and I would even assume they're probably made from the same company since the casing is 100% identical with the only difference being that one says Jaguar on it, and the other says Sega on it.

Ok, I have to ask... totally random, I apologize... is your avatar from Final Fantasy Legend? It's definitely got a Game-Boy look to it?

Hmm, that's weird, I can't edit my post? Oh well. I also have a few other things I just found while peeking into the closet: - Atari Jaguar 64-Bit store banner - Atari 2600 plastic cartridge holders (the kinds that hold 8 cardtridges and looks like a book). - NES Satellite (in box) - NES Advantage (in box) I also forgot that I have two NES 8-Bit systems boxed. Neither are brand new, but the Power Set had almost no use, and the pad was never removed. I replaced the connector inside on both of them. The boxes are both immaculate and come with eveything, manuals.. etc... One is a Power Set, and the other is an Action Set.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy... kind of ashame. I think I'm just going to end up taking a loss on most of this stuff, I just don't have the time or space to keep it all anymore. Guys, I have a bunch of stuff, nothing is really worth all that much... I'm putting a lot of it on eBay in the next few days: Atari 7800 NIB (with receipt) Atari 5200 2-Port CIB (everything there, and works) Atari 5200 4-Port CIB (everything there, and works) Atari XEGM CIB, also works, everything there 2x Atari 2600 Vadar units in Sell-off Atari plain white cardboard boxes. (1 game, 1 joystick, 1 power adaptor and 1 game adaptor) NEC Turbo GraFX-16 w/ CD drive and about 50 some odd games, works perfectly. Sega DreamCast w/ games, controllers, etc Coleco Vision (with games, power adaptor, controllers, mint condition, but no box) IntelliVision (with games, power adaptor, controllers, good condition) Sega Master System (games, controllers, etc...) Amiga CD-32, unopnened, new in the box. Complete system. Original Game Boy, unopnened, new in the box. Both Atari Flashback units, new in the box. EDIT: In all seriousness, what do you guys think I should list my NEC Turbo GraFX-16 for? I have like 30 CD games, and about a dozen card games. I have the docking station, multiple controllers, tag team, the CD drive, all that stuff. I really have no idea what to sell it for. I'm probably going to keep all my Jaguar Stuff, and most of my 2600 stuff too... but I have a bunch more stuff, just have to go through the closet. If you guys think you want anything, let me know...

I don't believe you, do you have any proof for that? Why? I think that there's been inflation in Europe as well, resulting from the crisis (in fact, there's always inflation, like an average of ~1% per year, and it's very unusual in modern times to have any deflation!), some food prices went down, that's true, but at the same time other (mostly non-food) prices went up. So my claim is that here in Europe, there hasn't been deflation. At the same time, the Dollar value went down, compared to the Euro. This would suggest that in the US there's been a stronger inflation than in Europe. The US WILL see drastic inflation. You simply CANNOT print almost 2 trillion dollars of NEW money and not expect massive inflation in the course of a year. 14,000 on the dow will mean a completely different thing than it did in 2004. Oh man, you guys are talking about Politics to the wrong guy... if you really want to go down this road... then come over to my website at Conservative 21 Otherwise, I'd suggest we leave this talking about Atari prices... heh.

$50 light switch cover? Really? I'm not going to tell you what you should start auctions at, but this certainly does provide some perspective about where you're coming from on thinking the market is depreciated. Nah, I have other items up, like a C380 for $29 bucks, and an Odyssey 200 for $9 bucks. The light switch cover though... I have been offered $200+ for it on a couple of occasions. There are Pac Man fenatics out there. I also sold my Cuttle Cart II for $500 and my Krokodile Cart for $200

Thanks Chris, Yeah, my feedback score is pretty good. I have 231 points or feedback, and 100% positive. About 1/3rd of them are from buyers, the rest are from me getting feedback for stuff I bought. I'm thinking I might try to put some tuff up tonight, or at least get a real good idea of what I've actually got. I originally bought the stuff because I really enjoy the old hardware. To me it was kind of like a collection. The Atari stuff, I always liked to play because that's what I grew up with. I never thought I'd sell the stuff though. After getting rid of some cars though, I DO feel relieved. I think I'm going to get rid of some of the duplicate stuff, and the stuff I know that I'll NEVER play.... like the Intellivision. Thanks guys... EDIT: Hah... this is the first thing I pulled out of the closet.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270468001133

Well, if you don't mind me asking, what is your time frame that you're basing this off of? I've noticed a few things have gone up in the past year... but when I compare the prices now to what they were 5 years ago, it's night and day. It was normal to see a 5200 listed for over $50 bucks, regularly... I just looked on eBay and there are at least 40 NES 8-Bit systems, in the box... with very few of them actually having any bids. Just because they list them at $100-$150 doesn't mean they're worth that. Most of the ones I see ending, are far FAR less.... Atari 7800 stuff... a NIB system would go for $100 bucks a few years ago. I see one NIB almost ending at only $40. I'm just not sure if it's worth it to sell it, or to keep it. And if I keep it, will it still appreciate in value, or is it going to continue to go down? The industry is old enough now that I think the values are beginning to cycle. Atari stuff was widely expensive because most of the people who used to play them when they were younger were starting to come "of age". Back in 2000-2001, Atari really kind of picked up in terms of popularity (the brand, not the product). That's kind of come and gone... 10 years have past since then, and now people in their mid 20s don't have a CLUE what Atari is (or ANYTHING from that era). The Nintendo 8-bit is kind of in it's prime now... but I think it's probably hurt some from the recession. I think one thing I need to consider too is that the market is saturated too. There are a lot of people who are in some cases probably FORCED to sell their stuff in light of unemployment. For me, I just want to get rid of it, but kinda don't want to take a huge hit on it either... :/

So, I'm not posting this in hopes of trying to make sales... but I'm having a hard time deciding what I should do?! For the past 10 years or so... or really... from the time I was about 19 to 25... (31 now), I used to buy and keep these video games. Systems, whatever... I'd go to flea markets and buy all these old systems. I'd buy them off eBay, etc. It's not that I think it's lame to do it now, but with other priorities (career, family, daughter, school), this hobby has just really taken a back seat. The last "game" I actually played was System Shock 2 back in like 2002. I think I played the Atari Jaguar ONCE in the past 2 years, and it was really just for 30 minutes. I've never been big on playing these games, but just liked collecting the old hardware. Since I now have bigger priorities, I've been trying to eliminate things in my life which I simply do not use. I've really cut back on my car hobby too... I sold my 73 Cutlass, my 84 Porsche 944, my 81 Pontiac TransAm, my 2006 Pontiac Solstice, my wife's VW Beetle... we both drive SUVs now. I've been selling rare car parts that I had stored in my garage. Basically, I've been trying to almost live a minimalist lifestyle. If I don't use it at least once in 6 months, then I get rid of it. (seasonal stuff doesn't count of course) Here's the problem. I have basically every game system known to man (with the exception of some really rare stuff like the Vectrix and NeoGeo, or the Coleco Telstar or crap like that). I want to sell pretty much 90% of all of my stuff, but I've come to realize (looking on eBay) that most of this stuff is worth 1/4 of what it was worth just a few years ago. Looks like inflation didn't take notice with the classic game industry. So what do I do? Do I unload all of this stuff, pennies on the dollar? Or do I just keep it again, basically completely filling the walk-in closet in one of the guest bedrooms of the house? My thought, ultimately, was to keep my Atari Jaguar and all of the games, one or two Atari 2600s with all of those games, maybe my Sega Saturn and those games, one of the 8-Bit Nintendos, and maybe my NEC Turbo GraFX-16. Everything else I would probably unload, including all my 5200s and my NIB 7800, etc... What kills me though is that you now see new in the box Atari 5200s, 2-ports and 4-ports for $9.99 with no buyers?! I remember just a few years ago that I could sell any one of my 5200s in the box for almost $100 bucks!!! I was lucky to get $95 bucks for my Magnavox Odyssey 2 and all the games... but I don't think I'll be able to repeate that with any of the other stuff. It just sucks at the thought of getting rid of this stuff for 1/4 of what I paid... but I really don't want it around anymore. Should I decide to move, or decide to take a job somewhere else... what do I do with all this crap?

Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
82-T/A replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
This thread is so awesome... what a classic. It's almost as old as the 2600 is... -
Damn, my reality has been shattered!!!

The thing is, the Odyssey2 sold many more units than the Jaguar ever did and had a strong International presence. It was a pretty special system in many ways with unique features and software titles, even if it was technologically underpowered in most ways even for the time. As for the PS2, the sheer volume of software titles, the sheer number of systems sold (and still selling after all these years) and the consistent worldwide popularity of the thing regardless of region make it pretty hard to argue against. All lies!!!! hahah... Yeah, I guess that's true. I do always forget the international aspect of the sales. Is the PS2 really doing that well?? What kind of numbers are we talking? Surely it doesn't compete to the number of units sold like a 2600 or a NES? (Just assuming here, I don't actually know...)
-
Damn, I just saw that now too... for $13 bucks, I'm going to order one too just for the hell of it. In 50 years when I actually retire and have time to play games, I don't want any of this bull crap with bad CD players... I just want it to work. Hooray for air cooled VW people who like Atari stuff!
-
The last game I played was Connect-4 on my co-worker's iPhone. The last time I actually played Jaguar was like almost 2 years ago I thiink... it's been a LONG time... sucks... life just doesn't give me the time. I suppose I could be doing it right now...
