On several systems this was a two disc set. I just want to confirm that this is a single disc game on the Jaguar. Aslo, I'm interested to know why/how that is? Better compression?AX
One disc on my Jag.
Oh yeah, I updated my Avatar with a picture of "The Avatar"... hah...

The N64 was biggest as afamily friendly/"kiddie" system, though there were some great "hardcore" games too. (quite a few FPS's, including the system's top seller -Goldeneye), best for that userbase plus many past nintendo fans (particularly for the exclusives), and finally for party games. (large number of 4-player titles, including most of the FPS's)No arguing that Sony beat the crap out of the market in the US, and it was about the same in Japan. (N64 was significantly less popular than in the US, but Saturn did fairly well, so it kind of balanced things out) Something repeted and then some by the PS2. (same for game libraries in both cases)
I was about 7 when it launched and we'd only gotten our Super NES a few months before (or it might have been that chrismas, I can't remember if it was in '95 or '96), anyway, we didn't end up getting one until christmas of '99, but all my friends who had newer consoles had an N64 (several had gotten them within a year of launch), but this may be the case for me. (of course I was in the prime age group for Nintendo's US market durring the N64's lifecycle)
Strangely enough, I remember more people owning Saturns in the ~'95-99 period than PS's, usually teens or young adults (freinds of parents or siblings of my friends), wasn't until arround 2000 that I really heard talk about the playstation, maybe just a coinsidence, or the Saturn was more memorable (expecially the 3D controller). I remember several people who'd gotten into the newer systems even later than my family who'd gone with the PSone as a budget console. I do remember plenty of Playstation commercials in the late '90s/early 2000s, as well as the N64 ones, but the Dreamcast ones from around 2000 really seem to stick out in my memory. (I can't remember seeing any Saturn ones)
Comparing sales figures, it did relatively well, in the top 10 best selling of all time (granted, #10 if you include handhelds) ahead of the Genesis/Mega Drive, Atari 2600, and so far the Xbox 360 as well.
I actually really like the Saturn. I vividly remember the Saturn commercials, but by that time I was completely off playing games. I was in college, worked, didn't have much time really. But I ended up getting one much later. I find the games on the Saturn to be very much like... well... it's very Jaguar-Ish as far as I'm concerned. Or actually... if I had to compare it to a system, I would say it's VERY MUCH like the Atari 7800, at least in the types of games. It was unique for it's time, and many of the games are ported computer games. I definitely like the Saturn. Not as much as my Jag, but I like it. Are you saying though that the N64 outsold the Genesis? I don't own a Genesis, but I was always under the impression that it was really popular?
I have a Dreamcast too, (only played it once) I bought it much much later for $100 bucks with a bunch of games. One of those left-over NIB ones. It's pretty decent I have to say, but I guess that was all she wrote for Sega?

The Nintendo 64 was for the most part a failure. How so?
The Saturn (outside of Japan), would be the biggest failure of the mainstream consoles in that period. (and had it not been for the previous success and popularity of the Genesis/MD in US/EU that it drew on, it probably would have done a lot worse -assuming the same mistakes were made)
Now, as a compeditor to the Jaguar, not too much of an issue, it coming out nearly 3 years later and (had the Jag done well) the Jag 2 would be on the horizon, probably out by '97. Plus the N64 was relatively weak in 2D, granted this wan't "in" at the time, but there are many arcade games (fighters particularly) that were still 2D, which the Jag could handel masterfully, and the N64 was weakest at.
In terms of competition, etc, at least in the US market.
I remember when it was brand new. I think I was a Junior or Senior in HS (graduated in 1996). A few people got them, but most of my friends didn't play games anymore at that point. There were some good games, but it didn't really compare to the other systems of the time, like the PlayStation. The PlayStation pretty much beat all of them. Yeah, the Saturn was a failure too in that respect.
I guess in terms of competition, the Playstation pretty much ruled the 3D/32-Bit era (which includes the 64).
The Playstation 2 was pretty popular also, and totally destroyed everything else that I can see during that time (especially the Game Cube).
I guess the Wii is Nintendo's big comeback... it's certainly doing well.... but it reminds me a lot of the N64 simply because the graphics are clean, but they're not all that great. Every game I've seen on the system (I've played it breifly) seems to have no texturing at all...

So I've started this on other forums with other systems that didnt a get a chance and got some pretty intersting responses on how some people would've handled them. So any here it goes:What would YOU have done differently when it came to Marketing/promoting/developing for the Atari Jaguar when it was first released?
A couple of problems we know about now (in hind-sight) is:
1 - Graphics were good, but 3D acceleration was fairly poor. This would definitely needed to be rectified.
2 - Pay your software suppliers, so they continue to release games.
3 - Sign better contracts with bigger names (also goes back to #2)
They did a lot of things right, but the timing was "interesting" to say the least, and once the PlayStation and Saturn came out, it really just knocked them out of the water. I think perhaps selling the system with a built in CD drive would have helped too.
All of that would have needed to be done, AND keep the costs down, and I think the system would ahve been a success. The Nintendo 64 was for the most part a failure.

I was wondering, which one is better to buy. Club Drive, or Checkered Flag.I also heard that they are horrable games
, but I want to try them out my self. So, in your opinion, which one is better to get?
Dude, seriously, both games are so awesome, that you just have to get both. The graphics are mind-blowing, and the sound effects are so intense that you literally need to be sitting otherwise you'll get blown over.
Ok, seriously... I found Checkered Flag somewhat boring to play, and I like IRL and Formula-1 racing. Club Drive, at least you can mess around and "explore".

I think I've been away long enough to land a bit more on reality. Going to school full time, while working full time, with a 6 month old, it makes you put things into perspective.
I've been thinking about selling all of my video game stuff for a while now, with the exception of maybe a few items like my 2600 collection and a couple of 2600 systems, and my Jaguar collection.
I've got a 3DO with a bunch of games (can't remember the last time I played it), a CD32 in the box never opened, and tons of other stuff, but I think the biggest point here is... most of the people my age who grew up with the 2600 (I'm 31 now) are getting married, having kids, and pursuing careers.
It SUCKS... the last time I actually PLAYED ANY games at all was my Atari Jaguar about a year ago. I have it hooked up, as we speak, in a bureau (whatever it's called) in the bedroom. And despite that, I still never find time to play it. Before that, I think I played a few games two years prior.
Our ages differ, and there are some new punks here as well (just read a post from a 15 year old that just got his first 2600 last week?!). But for the most part, I would bet most of you guys are my age, or a little bit older.
I hate to be the face of reality... but most of these systems will forever be relegated to our closets, online museums, and if we're lucky, a spot somewhere in the Smithsonian. The ColecoVision, Intellevision, whatever... will go the way of BBSes, CB Radios, etc.
I just sold my 2006 Pontiac Solstice for a family car last weekend, sucks... but for the three years I owned the car, I had a huge Atari sticker on the back. The logo with ATARI written underneath it.
Most people thought it was hugely dorky, maybe 1% thought it was cool (which made it worth it), and the remainder didn't even know what it was. MOST kids don't even know what Atari is... at best, they think it's just a company that makes video games like Dragon Ball "Z" from "back in the day".
Oh well... now that I've depressed everyone... I'll just say that I'm selling a bunch of my stuff. I just sold my CuttleCart II and my Krokodile Cart on eBay, and I'm going to be selling some other stuff. I'll be putting up an Atari 7800 NIB, a bunch of games, two 5200s NIB, a 4-port and a 2-port, a Commodore CD-32, just sold my Odyssey system, and a bunch of other stuff.
I'll post it in the for sale section...
Todd,

2002 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4
2002 Ford Crown Victoria LX-P74
1987 Pontiac Fiero SE / V6

Yeah, I almost hope it doesn't sell... hah, I know i'm going to regret it. I already sold my Cuttle Cart II for the 7800, and I wish I still had it... ugh...
Oh well, priorities...

Hey guys,
I'm selling my Krok cart. I never used it except to test it. It's revision #2 (the one that doesn't require the power supply when plugged into the 2600).

$149.95
Thanks,

Do people forget that the Atari had over 400 games? Yeah, a lot were clunkers but if you look at the top 100 list on this forum you will see some of the greatest games of all time. The weird thing is the guys who created the site were mostly Atari 2600 fans. Over the years I have seen this site change. It's one thing to be a second banana, it's another to be forgotten.
Well, honestly a lot of it has to do with the fact that, although WE consider these games to have significant replay value, most people do not. They revel in the nostalgia of it, but otheriwse could care less.
A good example is when you relate it to the automobile. The Model T was the first. Sure, there were other cars out there before... like the Stanley Steemer (the Magnovox Odyssey), or the Hispano Suezo (the Vectrex), but the Model T was the first one for everyone. But... no one cares about the Model-T now... you can buy them fully restored for $3,500 to $6,000 bucks while a 69 Oldsmobile Cutlass (the 8-Bit NES) is selling for $20,000 in the same condition...
It's just kind of how it goes... heh...

I'm a youth pastor, and I got my hands on a big LED window sign no one else could get working. It can use animated GIFs as long as they fit on a pixel grid of 16x72, so the oldschool sprite love has come in handy. It's limited to one color (amber, as you can see), but I think these still turned out quite well. They are actual pixel size and I couldn't figure out an easy way to resize, so you may need to break out the bifocals. The only one I still want to tweak is the Space Invader alien one--one space invader is not nearly as imposing as three would be.

Apologies to anyone expecting 2,594 more of these to be in this thread.
Hah! Those are awesome...!!!

MRS PACMAN x2For what it's worth Ms. Pacman was never married, divorced, or widowed.

NO!
........
.... unfortunately, even if I wanted to I couldn't. Yes, it does suck my friend.
But as for agreeing with me....it's not me you are agreeing with. These principals
are the very foundation of this great nation, long before I had anything to do with it.
God Bless America oh.......and Mad Bodies rules!!!
I've got to check it out. I haven't purchased a new Jag game in over a year and a half...
I totally agree with you.

If this is another one of those lamo vailed attacks against us for releasing Gorf in limited edition....A ) How come we don't see you folks giving other developers who had done this well before us a bunch of shit?
B ) Why does history escape your brain so quickly? Gorf was supposed to be produced forever. Midway
prevented that from happening. You'd be still able to purchase Gorf today if I had things my way.
C) We promise never to release a limited edition again. The whinny, jealous, envious behaviour of a few
has ruined it for those who understand why we did it in the first place. God forbid someone else can't have
what someone else does.
Ever hear the commandment, "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods."...yes envy is sinful.
It's getting more apparent why Obama got elected. We are turning into a nation of envious people.
Class warfare....the root of all that is hateful.
At any rate, we plan to supply Mad Bodies for as long as there is demand. Fair enough?
Gorf, I completely, whole heartedly agree with you. I just wish I had seen this response earlier. I blame MY generation (whichever letter designates that). I blame our parents, and my generation. Kids today (well, I'm 30... so people in my age group) are raised with a sense of entitlement. Everyone, regardless of their income, or the income in which they were raised in, feel that they are owed something. Everyone feels they are deserving of something that they haven't worked for.
I want a Ferrari... does that mean it's unfair? Some people think so...
EVERYONE feels that they are owed some sort of pittance because they are disenfranchised in some way or another. It really shocks me because I never really realized just how bad this country had gotten and just how demanding everyone has gotten. THere are so many examples that are right in our faces and people don't realize it. Even illegal immigration. These mexican immigrants cross the border, and while they may be coming here illegally, they have a very strong work ethic because they've CLEARLY learned from birth, the value of a dollar and what it means to earn a living. If all the illegal immigrants left this country, there would be no one to do the work because everyone feels they are too special or important (even if they are living on the street) to have to do "those" kinds of jobs... like packing meat or picking oranges.
If you see some of the kids in the shopping malls. they are total spoiled brats. If I talked to my parents the way ANY ONE of those kids talk to theirs, I probably wouldn't be here right now.
I remember ONE time when I was 13, I called my mom a "bitch", and I knew from that split second that I was in trouble... my dad literally kicked in my door!!! never saw him like that before... and I'll tell you what... I never did it again.
My dad was born in Holland, so by virtue of his own culture, he's instilled the Dutch "business ethic" into me as well (something they themselves have also lost).
It really kills me to see such a level of entitelment from people today... I think everyone needs a good dressing down so everyone recognizes their place.
I understand the stipulation that prevents you from producing Gorf. But even still... if you simply just didn't WANT to make any more.. that's your damn God given right to do that. YOU were the one that put in the effort, YOU were the one that put in the work... and you can do whatever the hell you want with it.
(do I get a free copy of Gorf for agreeing with you? hehehe).

Brutal Sports Football? I think its pretty decent common, but to each his own.
You would think that would have at least optimized it so there was no slowdown though..
Oh man, that game is so aweful... seriously... I think a CGA port of PENGO would probably have been better than Brutal Sports Football...
Or maybe even a Monochrome port of "Bouncing Babies" from the early 80s "Public Domain" collection probably would have been a better game.
Maybe GRIME, ParaTrooper, Pengo, and some of those other crap games would have made an awesome fill-in for Brutal Sports Football...
But to each their own... hah...

It was an all white (with black pinstriping / graphics)Same as mine, all original body / paint with a blue PMD interior. After 27 years now it could use a fresh coat and graphics, but still looks pretty good. Has a 350 4bbl and other things now (that way when I got it, well, mostly). OK, I wont drag this board down with car talk, but I too have had a few cars I could go on and on about.
Anyways, check out 82-T/A's auction for a Krok Cart!
There's always room for PMD talk. Mine had the burgundy PMD interior. Those "PMD" seats are awesome. 1982 was a really cool year honestly... Pontiac Motor Division was still it's own company (changed in the mid 90s), and the 82 model was really the carry-over between the 70s and 80s. It still had some fender flares that were certainly a styling cue from the 70s, but had the sleek look of the 80s.
Wish I still had mine.
The 350 wouldn't be original, did someone else swap that in there?
-
Sometime the rubber boot makes them pretty much "self centering". Mine always stay slightly center.yea i think you are confusing boot reflex to centering
centering woudl mean that it springs back to the center the boot kind of just makes it not relax in a absolute direction
pop in missile command wigle the joy around and see if the cursor really springs back to exact center
Ok, I'll check it out. I seem to recall that they had springs inside of them though...

Yes, the ScatBox is the shit box... It's also made by 4Play/ScatoLOGIC; the term foreplay has strong sexual connotations, and scatology is an interest in obscene matters including excrement. The alternative to the ScatBox is the CatBox, and cat box is a colloquialism for a litter box... Yes, another shit box. Notice a trend yet? That's funny... isn't "scat" animal excriment? So the name is basically "shit box".
HAH! When I saw the name 4-Play, I never thought foreplay... that's funny...

Hey folks!I just wanted to let you know that my website now has a help wanted section. You can find the button in the right bar on the site.
If you have some skills that you think may be useful for a future Jag project of mine, be sure to check out that section from time to time.
You might be able to help me out and help bringing a jag game to life.
As of now, I am really looking for a mod musician. And actually I am always looking for musicians in general, as that's my weak spot.
But in the future you may as well find other positions in that list... Even for testers at some point.
Regards, Lars.
Man, when I was in high school, I was friends with this kid who's parents were both music teachers. This kid would jump on his Korg 01W/Pro and just start busting out music... stuff like what you would hear in a video game or arcade game... just really amazing stuff... and he would pull it out of his ass every single time. He would immediately forget it, but every time he would just whip out another song out of thin air...
The guy had amazing skill... he really did. He ended up doing music for NASA (for their presentations and shows on the NASA channel I guess) and then he moved back to where we grew up and I think he's the band teacher at our high school.
Anyway, he would be perfect for what you want...
But... I haven't spoken to him in 13 years, so... sorry...
Anyway, this is a free bump.

That's funny... isn't "scat" animal excriment?

Well, it's hard to say which ones are cheap, VS which ones are not. I know which games suck and are cheap... like that battle football one that's in 8-Bit, hah, forget the name...
But there are some good games out there that are fairly inexpensive, don't exactly have the same "value" or "rarity" as Primal Rage or Alien VS Predator, but are still really good:
Power Drive Rally
I-War
Wolfenstein 3D
Trevor McFur
Ruiner Pinball
just to name a few:

Hey guys...
Maybe I'm nuts, but I have a set of normal 5200 joysticks that are self centering??? I just assumed there was a newer version and an older version, and that the first version weren't. I don't remember where I got these from. Anyway, I was considering selling all my games (except my 2600 and a few other things) because I'm going through an early mid-life crsis (30 years old, and wife just had a baby). And I started going through my stuff.
Are these rare? Or could someone have modified them?
As it turns out... it seems the market for video games has totally fallen through the floor. I see people getting barely $50 bucks for mint in box 5200 systems. Guess I'm going to keep mostly everything then... I'll probably be happy I did when I get out of this phase.

82 TA is the plate on my car but I don't see an 82 Trans Am in your list of cars, or any car from 82. Like I said that is my personalized plate so it was the first thing I thought of but it probably means something else I guess.By the way, nice cart, it is on my watch list.
Oh, I used to have a 1982 Pontiac TransAm. I loved the 82. Unfortunately, I don't have ANY pictures of it, at all... sucks.
It was an all white (with black pinstriping / graphics) 305 V8 with the posi rear-end and the Cross-Fire Injected V8 (LU5).
When I got it, it was rather abused. It had 150k miles on it. I didn't have a whole lot of money and I think I bought it for $750 bucks... hahah...
Anyway, by the time I got it, someone had swapped the intake with an Edelbrock and stuck a computer controlled carb on it, without the computer control.
It ran, but there was NO timing advance at all... because the computer was fried and the distributor on it was a computer controlled HEI.
I dumped about $1,500 into it, new HEI GM distributor, headers, all that stuff... and it ran pretty well.
I've had about 20 some odd cars since then, but the 82 was one that I really liked.
I've got an entire page of all the cars I've owned, and the ones I have now. http://www.PontiacPerformance.Net
I used to have an 81 TransAm also (as you know, the previous generation TransAm). Loved that car too but sold it, along with my Porsche 944 and picked up a 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
I still have my Fiero (first car), my 73 Volkswagen Bus, my wife's 2004 VW Beetle Convertible, a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, and my 2006 Pontiac Solstice.
-
Well, I did it... I took the leap and put it up for sale. I've had it for 2-3 years now, never used it even once... wish I had the time...

Hey now, I hope you're just speaking in general terms and not about me specifically! If you are talking about me, and you haven't read the whole thread, go read my original post and subsequent elaborationsbut I do have to wonder why someone would come on to a message board to post negative things about a product that the message board caters to, with no other reason at all?
I love my Jaguar; I just made a point of talking about both the good and the bad.
It was more general, hah... sorry if I wasn't clear.

Next Jag Game On Your "To Beat" List?
in Atari Jaguar
Posted
Shoot.. I don't think I've ever beat ANY Jaguar game... at least that I can remember.
I think I got past the first universe with Trevor McFur... and then... I think I got like 75% through the flying tank one... damn, I've been gone for so long I can't remember what it's called... Battleshphere? Whatever that one is (not the $1,000 dollar one, but the one that's offered on cartidge and also CD).
Oh wait!!! I did beat... crap... forgot the name. Damn, I'm either really worn out from school or work, or it's really been a LONG time since I've played anything... crap, what is that game called... it's like Mortal Kombat.
Holy crap!!!! I must be getting alzheimers...
Oh man, I suck....
UTRA VORTEK!!!! Damnit... my brain is rotting....
