  1. quote wiki:

Upon meeting Gavin McLeod halfway through the second level in the Jaguar CD version of the game, there is what some consider a subliminal message in a frame of the cut-scene that is shown, displaying a half-nude Scottish woman. This has been corroborated with AtariHQ, Jaguar Sector II users, and others in the community but no explanation for such has ever been provided.

I was looking at this game back in the 90's and just wished I had the cash to buy a Jag just to play this game..

    Is she hot at least?

  2. First off, welcome.

As for your post...I seriously don't know what to say. Everyone has their opinions, don't get me wrong...and maybe I'm just reading this the wrong way...but are you coming to a Jaguar board, bashing the system in your first post? That's what it seems like to me, but again, I could be wrong.

And Cybermorph, less-than-stellar? I have Cybermorph and Star Fox (SNES). I LOVE my SNES, don't get me wrong...but Cybermorph just CRUSHES Star Fox in so many ways. As a pack-in, it's a fun game and again, just out-does Star Fox in so many terms.

Hah, there are people like that on all forums. Especially with cars. When the Pontiac Solstice was coming out, there was a message board for people who had special ordered them, and then Mazda Miata owners would frequently register and post on there telling us how bad the Solstice was going to suck and that the Miata was better.

To each their own... but I do have to wonder why someone would come on to a message board to post negative things about a product that the message board caters to, with no other reason at all?

I mean, I can understand if you own a Toyota Corolla for example, and it's breaking down (just saying) and you log on to a board and bitch about it because you want to know how to fix it...

I like all game systems... some are better than others, but the Jaguar is unique. I feel something different when I play it that I don't feel when I play the other games.

I feel like I'm playing something special, something that has more substance.

It's kind of the same feel I get when I play the SNES, but like on the otherhand, something I definitely don't feel when I play the N64, or the Sega DreamCast. I get that feeling somewhat on the Sega Saturn...

I dunno, it's hard to explain...

  3. I hope he took that time off to fix his rotten attitude. 10 years ago his site was the first place I would look for a retail game but now I don't even care to look at what he has.

I was lucky like a lot of people to pick up a bunch of brand new games in the bargain bins of KBToys and Electronics Boutique. I think I payed $5 for T2K. Brand new Jags on the shelf were $30. I wish I had bought more.

Hahah... yeah, exactly. I completely agree.

I too actually got most of my initial stuff from the KB Toys and EB bargin bins. There was even another store that KB bought that liquidated everything and was selling CD games for $10-15 bucks, and cart games for $5!!!

But yeah, Go Atari was always the very first place I looked... if not Go Atari, then Telegames second.

    Now, it's Song Byrd Productions...

  4. you're and old and affecionate GoAtari customer, send this thread to P.Curry ;) he can't refuse our request!

Hah, I too bought a lot of stuff from Peter Curry back in the day. But most of what I bought was like 7-8 years ago... I honestly haven't bought anything from him in at least 7 years.

  5. Heh, this is how I know I've got one from the second batch...

    Re:Krock Cart, Tue May 16, 2006 10:34 PM

Hi, I'm still interested in the krock cart. However, I'm going to be out of town until Saturday. If I'm one of the lucky ones, will you hold one for me?

    Thanks!!!

You're pretty far down on the list at the moment, so you won't be getting one from this first batch. But I should have a second batch as soon as Armin is able to build them (probably at least two months), and you'll definitely get one from those..

    Take care,

    ..Al

  6. EDIT, this is one of the second release ones.

How can you tell if it is second release? I just got mine and am not sure what release it is.

I assume it is because I got them on the second batch. I put my name in on the list, and then one day, I was e-mailed! heh...

  7. Hey guys,

I hate to do it, but I've got a Krokodile Cart for sale. It's never been used, still in it's original wrap from where I bought it, with the serial cable, and the burned CD that came with it. I'm a programmer, and I had intended to use it to mess around with and whatnot, but my wife just had a baby, and along with the fact that my job is really demanding, and I'm also trying to finish my bachelors degree so I can change careers (I'm burnt out from programming)... I just don't see a time in the near future where I'll ever be able to actually use it. I think I've had it for like 3 years now and have never even opened it.

It requires a 6 volt power supply which is not included in the sale since it was never included with the cart when you bought it.

Anyway, let me know if anyone would like to buy it. I'm not asking $1,000,000 obviously... heh... but I do want to get what it's valued at. I'd love to be a charity, but I've got baby bills to pay!

EDIT, this is one of the second release ones.

    Thanks,

  8. Hi My name is Sean

I repair a very old VCS system. All the Chips in side were dated from may of 1978. Now my case is newer because I found this system with no case,so I put it into another heavy sixer case. Now has anyone really run into a super low serial number that would place your system in 1977..

I would really like to find a true VCS system that is date from 1977 in any month. Well I also need to find the Keypad covers for Basic Programing. The lay

overs that go over each Kepad giving you the words they use in basic language....

    Well Thanks And GOD BLESS

    Sean

I really should check... I was buying up old 2600s from the local Swap Shop about 10 years ago... and one of the ones I had actually had a date on the back on a sticker that had the Atari address on it and it said something like May 8th, 1977. Sunnyvale California I think was the city. I don't even know what I did with half of them. I had several heavy sixers. The big HUGE heavy ones with the massive pot-metal heat sink inside with the 6 switches...

  9. Damn, I'm guessing this isn't so great, 34,948,190 as my current high score. That was my first try. I never got off the main board, although I did get to that bonus board???

I don't know what I did, but I did something and immediately got an additional 20 million in my high score???

It took a while to get that other 14 million, so I'm hoping that it happens again next time... hah....

  10. Oh, you guys are totaly going down.... !!!

Hah, just let me know... I'll hook up my Jaguar ASAP.

What's the rule, I just have to take a picture of the high score screen?

Stay tuned for date & time! I'm sure doc will have something posted soon enough. :)

The camera and taking a pic was an idea but it's not necessary. :)

Aight, I'm in. I have a final on Monday and another Test on Wednesday, but I should have plenty of time after that!

  11. All this talk about Scorched Earth and Worms... anyone know where I can find a copy (of Worms)?

Finding a Jag copy is exceedingly difficult and costly, (B&C lists copies for $130) but if you have a PS1 (or PS2 or PS3) you can pick up one of the Worms games for pretty cheap. Back in the day, I (foolishly) sold my Jag Worms for $67 (but I paid $38 for it, so at the time I was pleased with myself) and bought PS1 Worms Armageddon for like $5. Now, of course, I wish I'd have kept the Jag Worms. But eh...hindsight.

A really fun game, to be sure! And in my opinion, the gameplay in Armageddon is a lot better... more weapons, quicker pace, etc.

    Cheers,

    Smeg

    Oh my God, really???

Worms is $130 bucks??? Geez... I really did get a deal. I got almost all my games for under $20 bucks each...

  12. Gorf is the smallest project you'll ever see from us. The Jag is a big machine and big games are what

it needs. At the same time, there are a lot of 'tiny' games out there that would be fun on the Jaguar.

For a developer like me, I few mini's here and there are good but I'd rather do the cool 3D stuff so

lacking on the Jaguar right now.

Totally taking this off track (so I apoligize), but I really, REALLY liked Iwar. They knew (at least I assume so) they couldn't have a full 3D environment and render everything at the same time while maintining resolution, so they kept everything untextured... it actually looks really good and totally works.

  13. Being new to the board, the Jaguar community, and just recently becoming a Jaguar system owner, I feel it’s not my place to take sides or to voice my opinion on the availability of older Jaguar roms.

Both sides have given valid arguments; on the one hand, I can understand the urgency of this topic to make these games available to the Jaguar community. There’s urgency to preserve the Jaguar’s library and to create a more informed community so future Jag coders can rise to the occasion and produce new titles. Plus, this would help introduce a new generation to an incredible game system.

Where Jaguar developers are concerned, I understand why they are uncomfortable with the idea. Whether it’s a videogame, a novel, or even a poem – no one wants to see their work freely distributed without permission, especially if they are trying to recoup something for their efforts. Luckily, this concern has already been addressed by doctorclu and I personally believe that it’s a very sound idea. I tip my hat to you!

But if I had to choose between downloading Jaguar roms, or having new Jaguar games to purchase, I’d pick the latter.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I buy all of the Jaguar stuff because I'm insane and like to collect Atari stuff because something happened to me as a child and I became addicted to collecting Atari crap. Hah...

But, it would be nice to have access to ROMS on games that I simply cannot (and probably will not ever) get. Just so that I can play them...

I understand the argument on both sides. Although a game's copyright never technically expires, if the company goes out of business there's really no one to defend it anyway. Not that it makes it right, but by offering the ROMs, we are enabling more people the ability to play it. Honestly, the only thing we're doing by protecting ROMS is ensuring the resale value of our Atari hardware... but on a different aspect, most of the people who download roms won't be as likely to buy games anyway... it would be nice for a whole new generation of gamers to be able to play the old Jaguar games.

Of course, I totally understand Albert's resistance to allowing any roms on here. This is an excellent site, definitely not a run of the mill "gamer" site made by some punk kid that had some time after school. This is a very professional, serious, Atari web site, and the last thing he probably wants to do is get involved in something that might risk all of this.

  14. You can use VGA extensions cables, it's the same connector.

Since VGA cables are typically held in place with screws, how well would a standard VGA extension cable connect to a Jaguar controller? I'm afraid it would disconnect easily.

No more or less than an actual Jaguar extension cable would... maybe more even since the VGA extension cables have metal shielding (basically a ground pin, if you will) and the Jaguar controller cables do not... so the metal would probably catch on the plastic better than plastic on plastic.

  15. isn't Worms something like Army Men, but with worms instead of men? that's what I thought it was...

in any case, it's alot more expensive than it used to be, now that Telegames no longer stocks it... :-o

Well, Scorched Earth is a game where each player (there can be 1-8) has a tank. They shoot any one of their numerous weapons, and if you made the trajectory accurate enough, it would hit the opponent's tank (or within range of it, depending on the weapon) and they would die.

Worms is basically the same thing. However, I haven't played it in over 3 years, but it was basically that. Several worms (2 or more, at least one player and one CPU), climb up on a hill and they have rockets (or some weapons... although I don't remember how many different weapons they can use) and they have to arch the curve of the munition in the air so that it lands correctly on the opponent and then they die.

Here's an image that I found on the net (looks like it belongs to one of our users, Just Claws)

    worms5.jpg

Basically, the two worms (or more, I don't remember) launch weapons at eachother, and if they can kill the other one, then you win.

Ever played that QBASIC game that came with DOS 5.0, Bananas? It's like that...

I think Scorched Earth is a bit more fun, and would be MUCH easier to adapt, but worms is decent enough.

Here is Scorched Earth from back in the day (early 90s)

    scorched_earth.png

And here is Scorched Earth 3D,

  16. Honestly, Worms for the Jaguar is very cool. It reminds me of Scortched Earth (anyone ever play that?).

Scorched Earth is awesome! Now I want Worms...

It's been a while since I've played any games at all... but I recall that Worms was identical to Scorched Earth...

  17. meanwhile, I already own all the Telegames releases except Worms, I hope to own all but one of the Songbird releases soon, and I'll be adding the last of the Atari carts that I still needed when Atari Karts & Attack of the Mutant Penguins arrive... I can hardly wait for that!

Honestly, Worms for the Jaguar is very cool. It reminds me of Scortched Earth (anyone ever play that?).

You'll really like Atari Karts too... way better (in my opinion) than the comparable Nintendo variety that was offered during that time.

Ill trade you a World Tour Racing for one of your boxed Jags :)

Hah, honestly... you'll be pissed to know that I ended up opening all of them. I didn't think about the rarity of the system (at the time). I honestly think I have like 5 Atari Jaguars in my house, but I only have ONE left that's unopened in the box. I do still have another one in the box, but it's opened. I have one really beat-down Jaguar, and then two decent ones.

I sold one of the other boxed ones, and then gave one to a friend a while back.

Is World Tour Racing good? I'm not expecting Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed of course, but is it at least playable?

By the way, your sig is totally from one of the old Ultima games, right? I think I asked this before but I forgot. I see the quote about moongates so I can only assume. Ultima 6 is still my all time favorite.

  18. It's sad. I've played BattleSphere and it's a great space-shooter, but I think the developers are unlikely to ever publish more copies after some of the abuse they've received.

What kind of abuse did they receive? You mean the long hours of development and the struggle to get it manufactured? Or do you mean abuse from users or something???

  19. Man, I hate to brag... but I'm so glad I had a little discretionary income several years ago when all of these games were on clearance.

I remember when I first moved down to Florida back in late 1996, right out of high school... most of the stores were still carrying Atari stuff. I think Atari had JUST discontinued the system, and everything was put on clearance. Most people didn't bother buying the stuff, and over the next couple of years 96-99, I was able to buy basically 90% of a complete collection at rock bottom prices.

I got brand new, in the box games like Doom, Alien VS Predator, Rayman, Wolfenstein 3D, etc... I got games like that for $4.88 at KB Toys, and then other games for $7.99 at places like Electronics Boutique (is that place still around?).

I remember there was even a toy store chain (they had just been bought out by KB and were liquidating everything) and I was able to buy 4 (yes, FOUR) brand new, in the box complete Jaguar systems, two of them came with Cybermorph, and the other two were without, and each one was only $15 bucks.

The CD games were the most expensive, and they were selling them for $12 bucks each. I got Dragons Lair, Braindead (forget the name) and all the others for like $13 bucks.

It was a real kick in the nuts when I was used to buying at those prices, and realized I had to have them all and started to pay normal game prices from Telegames, GoAtari, and Songbird Productions.

I'm still glad I got everything... I'm missing a couple of games (World Tour Racing, Charles Barklay, and Battlesphere of course)... but I'll get them sooner or later.
