  1. pm sent

Dude... guess what was in my mailbox this afternoon?

    The box I shipped you.

LITERALLY, the font for your address... not only was it in hte proper section (the only section), but it's 100 times larger than the font of my return sticker (the little free ones you get from Wounded Warrior). The digital code is actually metered for your address... HOW in God's name, they decided that it was supposed to be shipped to my house (less than a mile away), is beyond me. Completely absurd.

So I took it back and asked htem, and the guy was like... "Sorry... this is emberassing."

So, you should get it like a day later. I mean, I know shipping was free anyway... but still... thought you'd want to know. I just don't get how they could have screwed that up.

  2. ebay user coachandson_co

This guy was selling an Amiga CD32 on OfferUp for $250. I sent the standard OfferUp message and he said he was talking to someone else about it and would let me know in a couple hours.

Started looking at accessories on ebay (offer up listing did not come with a controller) and sure as hell there's the same console, ending in 2 hours, and currently sitting at $204 w/ free shipping.

I confronted him and he admitted he was giving offerup a "first dibs" regardless of sale price on ebay and wasn't trying to be shady. I told him I wasn't interested, especially since after further questions it seems all he knows is that it powers on.

I don't know, maybe I'm passing on a good deal, but I would hate to be the other guy on ebay who won the auction to have the rug pulled out from under them.

Crazy... I remember a few years ago... some guy in China or somewhere bought out a storage unit with 100s of these brand new in the box. I bought one... never opened, for $35 shipped. I sold it 6 months later for $50 cause I was like... what am I going to do with this???

  3. Interesting..I've got both my MT-32 and MT-200 setup for actual use on my current PC. But in my full size tower sits an LAPC-I and in a box elsewhere sits my SCB-55 I bought for my SB-16 that hasn't been used in I couldn't tell you how long now. Maybe I need to round that bad boy up...hmm...

The "holy grail" for playing vintage computer games is the Roland SCC-1. There's one on eBay right now selling for ~$730. It's not mind, and I have no intention of ever selling it, but yeah... I just realized I had no need for the Roland Sound Canvas that I had.

And... one thing I found frustrating about the daughter boards is that they are not natively General MIDI compatible. Like, for example... Wing Commander, Ultima 6, and the old Sierra Games simply cannot use the Roland card in native DOS mode.. (you have to window them through Windows and have the MPU401.DRV installed). But it will still work for the newer DOS games like... Wing Commander 3, or... Ultima 7, or games like DOOM and some such.

  4. Do you even know what that word means?

If so, demonstrate how this is specious.

I was walking down the street and saw this super hot girl off in the distance.

As I got closer, I realized she was speciously attractive.

As they say... good from far, but far from good!

  5. On my phone... so not sure if you're getting my reply. I don't know if that is the one in talking about. There was another SF3 game too. Any chance I can get a copy of that whole source folder?

Do any of the images in that source match what you see in the video? I have the SF3 tech demo... and its not the same one as in the video... also, think it runs in Windows.

  6. Someone lock this thread.

No! This is good stuff! When the aliens come millions of years from now, and they find THIS thread, which was incidentally stored on one of the raid drives from Albert's system... that had been encased in mud from the horrific Austin Mudslide of 2029, and this thread is still continuing... they can use it as an indicator of what life was like on Earth...

  7. never mind. Not worth it.

Hahah. Glad your common sense won.

That's what I've done for a very very long time, even when I still did actively pirate crap 20 years ago, stuff that I did own I still did make archival backups. I just remembered as that link said, run just the one copy, sell the legit and destroy the backup. I mean why not if you're done with it right? I've had a few cases where I've got games even now I have to use the backup because the media itself is unreadable due to one problem or another, but my zipped copy I can still decompress and run using some tool. Without that provision I'd have a few games I couldn't use anymore I do own.

Man, I JUST bought the entire Ultima 7 series on GoG because it was $0.89, and then also bought Ultima 9 Ascension because it too was $0.89. I actually didn't have Ultima 9... never bought it, but I did have the Complete Ultima 7 on CD already.

  8. In case you were looking for an excuse to keep the Sound Canvas, its quite different from the LAPC-1. The LAPC-1 is the internal version of the MT-32, which is different from a GM/GS Sound Canvas. I love the LAPC-1/MT-32, but moreso for early DOS games with no GM support.

Yeah... I realized after I'd been saying LAPC-1 over and over... that what I actually have is the Roland SCC-1. It's an 8-bit card, does native MT-32, but also has the Sound Canvas sets too.

    This one...

    1200px-Roland_SCC-1.jpg

I have that in my Pentium 2 Server, it's a dual (cartridge) P2 with 233MHz chips, and a bunch of other stuff. It's an ACER ALTOS 1000 mini-server. It has a bunch of PCI slots... I "THINK" an AGP slot, if I'm not mistaken, and a bunch of 16-bit ISA slots as well.

I have Windows 98 SE loaded on it, booting into DOS automatically.

  9. How far have you dug trying to recover it? I'm curious where you may have tried, or if you remember any specific details, file names, build names with the executable. It could be out there, somewhere.

We were using Tortoise SVN... and honestly, I don't remember any of the unit or class/include names. We're talking almost 2 decades ago... :(

I've gone through all my drives. I just cannot find it. I really wish I had it still...

  10.

Downfall is not a port. It's an original game written from the ground up.

In fact, Downfall itself has been ported to several other systems, using the same name, with our blessing. So there's that.

Which, by the way, is an awesome game! I never played Downfall, but I did buy Downfall+ when it was for sale on cartridge... it's awesome!

While it seems light and fun... there is a sense of eternal despair when I allow myself to think about the fact that I am in a free-fall into a cave, and unless there's some magic where I come out the other side... I know it's simply a matter of me forever being stuck in the pit.

  11. It will sell. Anything Roland or 3dfx in the vintage world is gold. Good luck!

Yup... my Diamond Monster 3DFX already sold, just blew it out for $15... already in a box at the post office.

Roland is still sitting there, but it's already got 3 watchers and has had like 30 views.

My original KayPro 8088 (brand new) just sold for $475... didn't even sit in auction for more than a few hours... was pretty shocked.

  12. Back in the day, they used to come with some really cool stuff.

There was one... anyone remember Sentinel Worlds - Future Magic 1?

My brother got that for Christmas back in like 1988. It came with the game, a t-shirt that said "In a battle helmet, no one can hear you scream!" (haha)… a poster that said the same thing, and then a novel.

All of it is gone, except the manuals and floppy disks. But I've been trying endlessly to find the novel that came with it (paper back). I'd like to just read it, and then unload it.
