  1. Lol... yes. We got upset because you were taxing us too much. We tossed your Earl Grey tea into the river. Then there was that whole spat in Boston with the 13 red coats that John Adams defended after they shot into a protest (which created the idea of right to trial by jury and defense). We'd had enough, and issued our decree stating our desire for independence. King George wasn't thrilled. Then we created the concept of a Constitutional Republic, and then of course... 1812. Old Ironsides did pretty awesome I'd say. Francis Scott Key made his debut album. But then, you burned down our White House. But we are cool now. We are besties. We're all part of the *Five Eyes* and we all share our gossip in our little friend circle of 5. The rest of the world is jelly...
  2. Yeah, I know it was our former overlords, but didn't they do it so that the beer shipment going to India would last longer, or something? Ok, I'll read the Wiki... haha
  3. Hah... I was like 7 or 8.
  4. IS the CD-I more money? I don't really have "collections," but the Jaguar is probably the only one that's about as complete as it can get, and I keep adding to it. I do play all the games, but at some of the prices (which I know won't ever last), I question if I should just sell it all... but damn I still like the system... even though I shouldn't.
  5. I can't argue with this... I really wish I could. Look, I'm not thrilled with what Jeffrey has been doing, but your comments aren't constructive as others have been. Your responses remind me in the 80s where one nerd made fun of another nerd, to seem cooler to the other nerds. You're still a nerd.
  6. Ooof. Can we have a re-do? Give the guy a chance to fix all the bugs in his games and then do a re-release? It would take a lot of egos on both sides I think to simmer... but then everyone's happy in the end. Thoughts? Don't Rodney King me here... just proposing ideas.
  7. LOVE IPAs... I guess the whole story was that in India they used more hopps or something to keep it from spoiling? I suppose I could read the link, but yeah... love IPAs... and Impulse-X. The two go great together.
  8. Eastern Europe... sounds like fun! I accidentally landed in East Germany once (in the 1980s)... I was taking a KLM 747-100 Series flight from Cairo, Egypt to Skipol, NL with my dad's secretary. I don't know what happened but at some point in the flight, the plane just "dropped" for what seemed like 10-15 seconds. Everyone was screaming, and some of the gas masks randomly deployed (guess at the time they were independent and not all one system). Plane flew normal at that point, but we made an emergency landing in East Germany. We landed at some airport that had no power and no running water. We disembarked from a ladder car from the front of the cabin and had to sit in this abandoned terminal for like 3 hours while they did something with the plane (I guess). They had a bunch of East German bloc soliders watching us and escorting us. Eventually we got back in the air, and landed within 15-20 minutes. Was pretty exciting. Sorry... every time I think of "Eastern Europe" that's what I remember. Never been further East than Germany in Europe. Never had the opportunity to experience the old Byzantine Empire.
  9. Good point, I forgot that I pre-paid. Either way, there's no right or wrong on these things. You and I know there's no such thing as Jaguar Socialism. It's all about making money, and there's nothing wrong with that. What makes people even bother in the first place though, is their interest in the system. I want a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB, and I'm pissed that I missed production, and/or couldn't afford it at the time. They should have made millions of them.
  10. I have Impulse-X on cart and CD. Hands-down, one of my favorite games on the Jaguar. Never once experienced any issues at all. Any chance it might be the Jag acting up??? Poor connection on the cart slot? Just a thought. I've not experienced any issues, and it's one of the games I play a lot on the Jaguar.
  11. Hahaha... man, you guys are mean. I feel bad for him... he has a lot of really good ideas. I do think though, like me sometimes... he gets impatient and rushes his games without considering how the overall fit and finish looks. Certainly, the attitude we're giving him isn't helping either... but I do wish he'd slow down, FINISH his games, have them tested... maybe reach out to some of the fan-base here that helps with the other games, and then have a good quality release. Frogs 64 was a great idea, great game, and would have been awesome. It still is awesome, and I like to play it, but so many bugs that could have been fixed if he just slowed down.

I'd like to have this version on the Jaguar too. CryanoJ, make it so... thx!
  13. It doesn't work that way. I don't think it's intentional by any means, but more having to do with means... and demand. You and I both (I believe) agree on the fundamentals of economics. So, you know that no one goes into this without assuming that they're going to at least make a penny from it... but it's largely driven too by the enthusiasm and fandom. I think we both agree on that... so on to the challenges (having worked as a developer for a software company myself). In the case with cartridges, physical hardware like this. There are so many limiting factors. For one, there isn't an easy way to "reach out" to all the Jaguar fans, other than maybe 1 or 2 sites... AtariAge being the big one. So they judged interest, made a run, and sold them. After several years, there was a lot of demand... IE: new fans to the Jaguar scene, and people who missed the original run that either didn't have the money and didn't say anything, or just didn't know about it the first time (because of life...). So... they made another run, what... 200 or 400 games I think? Now, the "run" has a lot of factors in it. There's a lot of manual labor, loading and burning 200... 400 roms, which takes time. Not only that, when you have cartridge shells made, boxes printed and made, manuals printed and made, labels printed and made... they often each come from a different company. Now, these companies will only print these for you when you order them in bulk... furthermore, they'll only discount based on how many you make. 1000+ games gets a bigger discount than 200 does. But either way... that's a massive initial investment that must be made up-front on something you haven't been paid for yet. No one wants to lose their shirt on a game that's only being sold to fans. ... furthermore, there's the licensing fees associated with the printing of each one, and the agreements that must be made by the license holders. You can't simply print more just because there's a sudden demand, you now have to get an agreement from them again. All these things add up. Maybe printing 600 the second time around, instead of 400... is just more than they can afford. But the thing is, they may not even begin to make any money until perhaps 1/3rd of them have been sold off. It's hard to judge. But if they made another run of 100 right now, it might not even sell, and the cost would need to be pretty high for them to make a profit on it. Just is what it is... but with better printers and 3d-printing at home capabilities... this may not be as big an issue in the next 10-15 years.
  14. Nice! That is totally impressive, and I mean that seriously.

Can this be ported to the Atari Lynx? I'd like to be added to that list as well.
  16. Holy crap! Did you see the race start @0.38 seconds? That would be the worst start in FIA history. Literally 6 cars crashed only feet apart from the starting grid. Hahaha...

Hah, I would too. There's not a lot of new games I like. I find myself liking the older games, or Indie games, or remakes of older games. I spent a total of 6 hours last week playing Castle of the Winds 1 and 2. Anyone remember that? ... designed for Windows 3.0.
  18. Wanted to focus just on this part as I think this is, quite frankly... been the motivating factor (negatively) for a lot of people. The guys at Atari SA are not... what's the word, polished? Most corporations that produce products have a VERY well-developed set of guidelines for engaging the public. No matter the organization, there's usually a public affairs office, or a customer relations office. There are also guidelines that every employee must follow... IE: don't talk to the media, don't discuss work outside of work, don't engage with competitors or negative publicity to the company, yadda yadda. Because Atari SA is a very bare-bones operation (likely running out of a small office with a warehouse), they generally don't have such an office. That means that the people engaging the public are actually the engineers and people who are emotionally charged / tied to the operation of the business... (you'd have to be to come work for Atari). So it's somewhat of a disaster that's self-made, unfortunately... but I can see the potential past that. They really should just shut up though. Most corporations that are advertising a product that hasn't been produced yet, always have all kinds of big ideas. But they have lawyers and public affairs employees who are specifically trained to make sure they don't say stupid stuff that's going to get them into hot water. Doesn't always work... but 99% of the time, it does. Again, Atari doesn't have this... :/ As for the other thing... collusion. I don't think there's a concerted effort by a large group of people to downfall Atari (I don't know that anyone really cares, quite frankly). But there's enough negativity going around, that it could lead to a movement of backlash before there's even been a chance at producing the product.
  19. Sorry! Just paid. I was out last week!

    Heretic

Heretic was an awesome game for it's time. It wasn't any kind of breakthrough or anything... just a basic Doom clone with a slightly different plot... but it was fun. Would be nice on a Jaguar, but total pile of shit if you compare it to today's games.
  21. Gotta comment... those old-school 1960s GSA Federal auctioned steel desks they have there are "bad-ass..." can't say that enough. I've always wanted one of those, they are awesome. … but they weigh like 300 pounds, easy.
  22. You guys know where I stand, as I've said it before. I know what to expect going into it. What I'm concerned about though, is all of the negativity may end up causing the entire thing to fail, which I tend to think some people may secretly want it to... for the sake of an "I told you so..." not suggesting the three of you feel that way (I don't know, but I assume not). I just don't want it to become a self-fulfilling prophecy, so to speak. I think most of Atari SA's actions have been somewhat of a... an understanding of where they stand... which is very limited resources, but lots of great ideas. Seems like they want this to work, but are short on resources, don't have their PR campaign refined, etc. So they're thinking big on a shoe-string budget... and that does come with it risk. I just know support helps more than a negative attack campaign.
  23. Honestly, there's been a lot of negativity. I'm not sure I really understand why people are sooo angry at Atari SA for coming up with this? It's a very vocal minority. To each their own... I know what I'm doing buying into it, I just don't fully understand why there are so many who are so vehemently grouchy about it. I don't like used car salesmen, but I don't hang out in the General forum talking about them all the time. Haha... They are probably tired of getting themselves into frustrating conversations with people who are trying to catch them saying something improperly.
