Did this ever get released? Did we ever decide if it'll be on cartridge? Can I be added to the mailing list? Is madman upset with me?

I screwed up... I forgot to send a PM. Just realized that I missed... oh shit... just realized something else. It's only June 9th. Holy crap, thought it was July 9th. Hahaha...

I mean, I have no delusions of what I've put my money into. But I know these people aren't wasting their time either... and I truly do want them to succeed. I don't foresee a massive Atari resurgence of any kind, but I do recognize I'm buying a piece of Atari hardware that's not static... IE: something that can grow with my interests. Part of the reason why I've largely been uninterested (or lost interest) in the Atari Flashbacks. This new system will be an actual computer, with a decent loader. For whatever that comes out to be... I have the ability to put new games on it, and that's cool. Still, I'd love to see the ability for external storage. There are a lot of games that I have on Steam and GOG that are not resource intensive, and I'd love to be able to play them on the TV with my daughter. We are in a new "era" today. 3D printing and the internet have brought an end to corporate monopolies as it applies to the video game industry. That means ventures like this one CAN succeed, with very little overhead. They don't need brick and mortar, they don't need a distribution network, and they don't need the financial backing of a major corporation. Let me ask you... are you an Atari fan? Do you enjoy Atari and are you a fan of the franchise? I'm not going to be condescending, I mean this with sincerity. But... for whatever reasoning drives your aggressive agenda... whether you uniquely care about the individuals investing their money, or you just want to be the Peter Schiff foretelling the housing crash in this situation... I cannot say. But, if you are a fan of Atari, you should have a genuine interest in this succeeding. You certainly aren't helping that with this attitude. There's a large difference between keeping people honest, and being the Ralph Nader of the car industry. Who do you want to be? The one that helps steer the direction of the project, or the one who helps bring it down?

I want the Atari VCS to do well... and at some point, I hope others do too as well. I've aired my concerns, but I still put my money down. I hope others can at least appreciate the effort and not revel in the drama.

Kickstarter -- New System Shock game
82-T/A replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I hope so... this NEEDS to happen. I don't think I've ever played the Demo... something tells me I have, but maybe I'm thinking about the 1st level remake at the end of System Shock 2... -
Kickstarter -- New System Shock game

So many emotions here... where to start... First, didn't even know there was going to be a remake... so excited. Then I see the first videos even more excited. Then I see follow-ups that say everyone lost their money and it's going to fail... depression. Then I see a glimmer of hope that it may actually be created again... Ugh... please.... need me some more System Shock. -
Yeah, that's my only fear. I'd love for the original OS to be stored on an HPA or some sort of recovery partition or something in case I screw it up. It would be great to install all these things if they open it up... but I definitely don't want to screw anything up. I hear that... your description... the creamy filling is a good one. Sometimes it's good for a solid career change. When I'm 50, kids will be out of the house and in college, and I'll have reached pension requirements for my current job. Maybe consider house flipping if I'm still into it! hah...

CD+G was used for a variety of purposes... I think (correct me if I'm wrong), it means literally CD + Graphics. It's usually pictures with some other features... simple video / media... like a bouncing ball for Kareoke and some other stuff. Lots of music CDs had CD+G compatibility and people just didn't realize it.

Hahah, thanks. Yeah, I don't know really what to expect from it. What I REALLY wanted out of it, was some compatibility with GOG or Steam... the ability to transfer some less complicated games from those platforms and be able to play them on the TV, maybe with a Bluetooth keyboard. It would be neat to do it with an actual Atari product. It doesn't look like Atari did any negotiations with them. Shoot... I'd like to know if they even tried. It would be awesome for me to play a lot of my old DOS games on my TV through the Atari VCS... That said... there was also part of me that, with unrealistic expectations / fallacies that Atari will once again dominate the entertainment industry, haha... Serious question, at what point do we start considering ourselves middle aged? I just turned 40, and theoretically life expectancy is ~80. However, if I take the "ideal" life expectancy that we all shoot for... 100, then middle-aged would be 50, would it not? So... just curious.

Respectfully, senior moderator, sir. I'm not seeing who's pissing on eachother. That said, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to roll in the mud with whomever is fighting with eachother, so as to partake in the madness. I'm not seeing it though... who's mad at eachother? I still bought the Atari VCS... but I'd be lying if I didn't feel like somewhat of a fool. I realize I basically just bought the equivelant to a $50 dollar Chinese-made Linux device that I can buy on Amazon all day long. I'd be lying, and only fooling myself if I said I didn't buy this for any other reason than the fact that it has an Atari logo on it. Literally, my mind went through some mental gymnastics to come up with the logic that allowed me to spend $250 on an LED Atari logo that will sit next to my television... that I'll probably never play, and won't even see for probably 18 months from now. Sigh...

This adds a question... if Area 51 could essentially run on what was Jaguar architecture... could they then also run on an actual Atari Jaguar? I realize you said the chips are slightly different... but I'm just curious if anyone has tried?

The only problem with a Necrobump of one of your posts from 14-15 years ago... is you realize how much time you spend on stuff... oh.. if I had used all that time learning a 3rd language or contracting projects...
-
I'm so pathetic, I bought one. $251 shipped. I bought the Onyx w/ Joystick. I don't know if it'll ever come... July 2019 is a long way away...
-
I was seriously considering buying one... I mean, I was dead-set on buying one. Now I'm not so sure. I didn't realize that what they were doing was a "Kickstarter," and that's kind of turned me off to it. I totally don't mind at all plunking down $200 bucks for a Vader VCS; however, I don't like the prospect that it could just be going to someone who's not going to produce, and then I'm out $200 bucks. Not to mention, the shipment date isn't until July 2019. I think I'm kind of over it... I'm sorry Atari. This launch was handled very poorly.

Please add me to the waiting / pre-order list.

REALMS!!!

I LOVED this game on the Apple ][e back in the day. I was all excited and bought it for the Atari 7800, and the cartridge didn't work. Still have it, still doesn't work.
-
Yes, it was one of my favorite games as a kid. I didn't have a 7800 as a kid, bought that as a young adult, but I used to play Rampage on the PC...
-
Yeah... I mean... Battlesphere, I have to figure that because that's in there. The guy needed cash immediately. That's a $500+ game on eBay on any day. He had to know it. Even the laziest man would unload everything else, and still eBay that and the CD drive. But... yeah... I hear ya. I'm the same way. Sometimes I just give stuff away cause I don't want to deal with it. Yeah, that was my thought too. That person was almost certainly on here as well. You don't get all those games from the different after-production producers without having a central location to find them. He even has World Tour Racing, the newer version that was in the cartridge box.
-
Guys... I'm really late to this. But I think I want one. What exactly is this?
-
Cryanoj does all the ports typically. I think Gaz does all the shipping, burning, packaging, money laundering, and all the other stuff.
-
From time of purchase to time of delivery is usually a long time (several months). But... it's totally worth it. The quality is as it would be if it was a brand new game from Atari that you picked up off the shelf from KayBee Toys or Electronics Boutique from back in the day. I don't want to speak for Gaztee, but that's usually the turn-around time. Only saying that so you don't get frustrated thinking he's forgotten about you. I've bought over 20 games from him over the span of like 6-7 years if I'm not mistaken, and I've gotten every single one of them.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Gold Box Series Games : Forums?
82-T/A replied to 82-T/A's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Like DeepThaw said... you can use that wrapper to "fix" Pool of Radiance and add the FIX command, but correct... Poolrad does not have the FIX feature. Also, it doesn't use any sound support outside of Tandy 3-Voice on the PC, and it's not in VGA. But... as far as I'm concerned, it has the best story-line. It's also far less "linear" like many of the other games which are strictly linear. I'd say, actually... the two Savage Frontier games are pretty close to how you can kind of just do whatever you want. That's what I like about Poolrad. There's also dozens of missions that you can go on, or ignore them completely. Lots and lots of hidden caves throughout the world... all kinds of cool stuff. Honestly, it's the reason why Pool of Radiance is my favorite. I'd LOVE to see someone re-do it, EXACTLY as it is... but in VGA. So... using the newer engine from Gateway / Dark Queen of Krynn / Pools of Darkness.
