i have gotten into mild hardware mods for atari stuff. things like battery holders and internal illumination but have not been very succesful at my soldering . i have mostly used radio shack 25w pen irons with rosin core solder but my results have been less than spectacular, lots of cold joints and stuff .im not doing delicate work mostly 14 and 16 gauge wire to conector and wire to wire joints any recomendations on soldering irons or some recomendations on iron and solder conbinations.im a looking at affordable solutions geared towards begginers . i have also been looking at that cold heat soldering iron on tv has anyone used those with success ? all input appreciated

as far as durability i have to go with the lynx . my Lynx I has been trough hell and back and still works like a champ . as far as battery life. if you can get your hands on the "d"size battery packaccesory that gives hours of play time or you can invent your own external battery pack . i use a sealed 1.5"x2"x3" sealed lead acid battery rated at 6 volts 4amp hours. it lasts forever playing the lynx . it only cost me bout 15 bucks to build. here are some pics of my well worn lynx

i am still going to get it . i dont need to play it since i have all the original 2600 and 7800 titles that i like . but it is nice to see new atari gear no matter how crappy, ill put it next to mi jacks styck collection

thats the situation . calsic video games dont sit for months at the thrifths like they used to and you know its not collectors . the stuff is being funelled to ebay

the flea markets round here are ethnic. geared toward latin american immigrants which translates into no atari stuff but plenty of 8 bit NES games . i have to drive close to 50 miles to get to an old fashioned garage sale fleamarket round here . the thrift stores are bone dry but i feel cause most thrrifts are chain thrifts like value village and goodwill . you better believe they skim of atari stuf to ebay

i dont think it would be protected speech since hacking can be considered as a form of reverse engineering which is protected under copyrigth law .

Favorite Non-Atari Classic Consoles
Mr Egg replied to DominiRican05's topic in Classic Console Discussion
i also took part in the nintendo vs sega debates in school as a defender of sega's honor . i loved the SMS but when i found out they had pulled the plug on it in 1989 i finally caved in and got an NES . still i lean more towards sega with the sms and the genesis . specially since the genesis had awsome(for the time) poligon based simulators -
What console had the coolest carts?
Mr Egg replied to sega saturn x's topic in Classic Console Discussion
i do miss the cartridge as a game format . my all time favorite was the card types like TG16 and early SMS . it seemed like the way of the future at the time, sleek and compact and very robust. but of course production economics and planed obsolecence are big selling points for cd based systems . oops i scratche my game . time to buy a new one. cartridges could always take a beating. no wonder 20+year old VCS carts stillwork like a champ this was the only sega card i owned for the sms . fun game too -

i like atari vcs cause they always went way beyond with the art. second chanel f for the ultra psychodelic art , and last odysey 2 for the handle and the journey type font -

The most underrated RPG of all time (possibly)
Mr Egg replied to Snoopy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
i agrre with the gargoyles quest series . specially when the gb poclkets came out with proper bw lcd screens. not green washed out blurry crap. another underrated rpg is MULE for the NES -
i used toown a ps2 . finished RE codename veronica on it and never palyed it again . it spent close to 8 months gathering dust before i sold it . i mostly play games on pc and then only games that are modable IE battlefield 1942 battlegroup 42 mod

its important for the atari generation to teach video gaming to the young. i gave my 3 year old niece a jakks spongebob game stick . she got lots of expensive toys from her parents even a powerweels car. but she only plays with my cheap gift . jakks sticks are perfect for the kiddies

to close to $200 for me . i figure it as an introductory price and should level off at $150
