I might be interested in the one your dog peed on if it will save it from the landfill.
-
Do you still have the one your dog took a leak on?
-
If they do have them at Best Electronics I would go ahead and be thinking about anything else needed and order it with it. All I wanted was a 3 dollar part and had to order 8 of them just to get it so now I have 7 extras because they have a $20 minimum purchase.

I would think for a good price check(I still wouldn't be able to tell regardless) that pictures of the whole unit would be needed to see what kind of shape it is in.

Not that I'm complaining, well, maybe I am...

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

If it was an adult that did this to me I wouldn't have gave it back but since it was a kid, well older kid I guess, I didn't fuss over it. But yeah if it was stadium events I don't think I would have gave it back and would have probably left as soon as paying for it and not even looked around the rest of the flea market. -

Went to the flea market today and went inside looking around. Saw a table with a 13 to 15 y/o girl running it and an Atari Flashback 1 with power adapter and 1 controller. Asked how much she said he would take $5. I thought okay that is great. I paid for it, she put it in a bag, and even gave me two free books for my daughter. Well, about 3 minutes later as I'm on the other side of the flea market she comes walking back up to me saying she is sorry that he was just organizing stuff and he didn't want to sell it so she gave me the five bucks back for it but told me to keep the books. Well my daughter got 2 free books at least. I came home empty handed today. EDIT: No big deal I just bought the exact same thing on ebay for only $3 more https://www.ebay.com/itm/142691311883 but can't figure out why in the world someone would set an item on a table along with everything else for sale, then have someone else watch your table for you then tell that person "oh I didn't want to sell that" after they have done sold it. I've been wanting to get one for the case but now I will have one in a few days. -
I haven't had any issues with Flashback 2s on my 55" TV looking alright with composite so yeah maybe something else interfering somewhere. I wouldn't try anything crazy looking like wrapping the cord in aluminum foil or foil tape or anything of the sort. If I wanted better, shielded cables I would just cut the ends off one end of a good set, then open it up and desolder the old and solder the new cord in place. That would look much better but then you may go through all that just to find the picture will look the same.

Another update: I did some troubleshooting on it this evening and it appears the Suzy chip may have been hit with ESD at some point. I inspected the flex circuit and found no issues and all pins were making great contact in the zif connector after I had to snip off the end of the ribbon where the carbon had worn off. The signals are getting to the Suzy but am not getting a response. I will install another chip later on and provide an update.

Update: I mentioned earlier that he may not have had power because it needed to be powered up but then I read that he said he didn't have the power LED come on so now I assume he may have actually had the ribbon cable hooked up and was trying to power on but didn't have power. I thought he didn't because it came without that ribbon cable hooked but he may have unhooked it prior to shipping. Reason I say is because I during further testing had an issue as well and found this. So I was probably just lucky the first couple times. I had it not power up as well one time so I snipped about a 16th off the connector to try to make contact and it is now powering up but also some controls aren't working so I think I have a broke common somewhere I'll trace it tomorrow. It is late now so I will look at it more later.

I would check first your TV settings. Some TVs actually have a game option you can turn on. Other things that can increase lag are factory overscan settings(even on LCD TVs). Mine actually had it turned on from factory. What this does it blow up the picture a bit to chop of the outer edge of the picture and thus increases time a bit to scale the image. They may call it something different on some TVs but you can play around until you find the setting.

Here it is so far I worked on it again tonight, I still had a little solder left and used my hot air gun on my rework station instead to desolder the connector. I'll try to get everything back together soon and take some more pics.

Caps are installed. It will be a few days before I finish I've ran out of solder and I need to order new tips for my desoldering iron. EDIT: This is where I left off at. My next step will be installing the data wires and to finish everything up once I get my stuff in the mail.

Got a little bit done this afternoon. So far I've removed the caps and will be installing the new ones in just a bit.
-
Not if I done it. It has power now. Look at the last picture in my last reply. The issue he was having is that it has to be powered on first.
-
I've pulled quite a few pads/traces and screwed up when first learning. It happens.
-
I didn't get much done tonight had to work late. I've been working on it off and on a bit this evening. Before After I would work on it more this evening but tonight is me and wife's 13th anniversary. EDIT: Just to clarify the power jack wasn't the issue with power I just didn't want to leave it like that in fear if the plug moved back and forth it could wind up breaking the connection.
-
No, nothing that can't be fixed. But yeah part of a pad is gone(the side opposite of the trace if looking at the last pic in reply #8 you should see it on the 3rd pin to the right) but I'll fix it this evening when I get home before I start on the rest.
