  1. My radio station asked the listeners which artist they would want to have a private performance from in their living room. One replied "only someone already dead" because that would be "interesting". ¿Que? 😬

  2. If Mozilla is having any shareholders (not sure if it is a non-profit or a traded company), their stock probably took a nose dive in the last 30 minutes when a lot of Firefox browsers stopped working.

  3. Yesterday I considered if I should buy sugar. Instead I bought olives. No, they're not equivalent.

      GoldLeader

I go with the greater need...Money's tight but for me sugar is a must for coffee (and Splenda)...Granted I also try to have a can of olives ready too...And always have a back up of both.   Oh also black olives or green olives?  (I like to have both on hand).

Black olives. I'm not entirely out of sugar so perhaps I'll stock up on that next time.

Well,  I sure  hope people appreciate it!  I found it interesting...I ..Well, I should be asleep 2 hours ago actually...But I got in a 2 hour nap earlier so I'm hoping my sleep won't suffer too badly.  Seems like some days I don't need as much anyway ;)

I'm with you. I don't know why it's different this year, but I've been thinking about "after Christmas" and the Springtime rush I have every year at work sine Thanksgiving, but now it's almost here and I don't think i got the most out of it.  We did all the usual stuff, maybe not as much, just extra busy at work and even moreso at home.

Today I got offers for Black Friday in the physical mail. The only thing that really bothers me is that the offers are valid Monday Nov 22 - Wednesday Nov 24, while as far as I can tell the Black Friday doesn't take place until Friday Nov 26. It seems like someone didn't quite think straight.

You jest, but that is an actual film. I saw it my older brother's stash when I was a kid and watched it with some friends.  The first "adult" film I ever saw...

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

@Max_Chatsworth Heha!  Yep!   My friend used to brag that they were able to see Flesh Gordon on the drive in screen (minus sound of course) from the window of the church at their Boy Scout meeting.  True Story.  (I couldn't make that up ;)

  17. I just learned that a graded Pokémon card from 1999 in plastic casing can be worth $50000+ while a hand written letter from the Queen from the early 17th century only is $1000. Something is amiss.

The grading company would only say it is grade C because it was yellowed and slightly stained. Sure, it is a bit unusual item to collect and probably doesn't look any pretty on the shelf so $1000 might be adequate. On the other hand, various trading cards such as Magic the Gathering, Pokémon and others were mass produced in large quantities - obviously some on purpose less common than others - so I think $1000 would be adequate for one of those as well. Definitely not $50000 which is a price tag I associate with true antiques.

This was part of a Swedish game show where the competitors get to guess which out of a half dozen different objects is worth the most - ranging from $50 to $50000 and the item they "keep" in the end equals the amount of money they win. I'm sure it is an imported game show format that exists in many countries. Previously they've had Nintendo 64 games on the show, next to the paintings, furniture, memorabilia etc.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

^Cool!  We don't have a game show like that (exactly),  to my knowledge...Although there was something similar,  where (I think, not certain) the competition was to get a storage unit that was worth the most based on what was in it...

    4. carlsson

      carlsson

Wow! I just learned that Bytt är bytt indeed is an original Swedish show, not an imported format like most other popular shows tend to be. Per IMDb, this show instead was exported to the Netherlands in 2015 and has the English title "Trash or treasure" though I'm unsure if it was broadcast in any English speaking country.

      Broadcasters

TV4, Sweden (6 seasons and still on air)

      DR, Denmark

      SBS6, Netherlands

      DeeJay, Italy

      ABC, USA (pilot)

so there was at least one pilot episode even if ABC didn't buy the format.

The bank doesn't use simple passwords. It uses QR codes + personal passphrases ideally entered on a different device than the one you're accessing the website on. As it turned out, everything worked as it should once I followed the same procedures she uses to, and it worked for her too today.

Possibly it was a random website survey popup that interfered twice with the login process earlier in the week. Those random "how do you like our site?" popup surveys can be a PITA even for experienced computer users.

Also I "found" a file server on my desk which I installed a couple of years ago. Now I'm trying to recall what the root password is. I tried several likely ones without luck.

"At the end of the day" just means "ultimately."
