  1. - Good day, fellow!
    - Axe handle!

  2. "By the book" is one of the ugliest English terms I know.

    1. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

That one has c!ear meaning though. The worst one and most overused is "At the end of the day..."

    2. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

"At the end of the day" just means "ultimately." IDK, most of these phrases don't bother me much.  They drive my kid nuts because the actual meaning is different from what the individual words literally mean.  That's just how language works (at least a confusing mish-mash of a language like English).

  3. "I sent you an email 60 seconds ago and you haven't replied, that is why I'm calling."

      You need WUPHF.

  4. "Tell me a verb and I'll give you an adjective". So I give them a verb and they say it is not the right word class. Grammar is hard.

    1. Random Terrain

      Random Terrain

      It's spelled "grammer." You're welcome! :D

I think the correct response to that would be "Cheers!"

Not too many people whose Wikipedia page has a personal section that opens by saying their personal life has been surrounded by family tragedies.

    3. Stephen

      Stephen

Don't you mean "grammar be tough"?

  5. "URGENT" says IOC and brings all journalists to a press conference at 8 AM. Turns out they have extended a sponsor contract with Coca-Cola until 2032. Well played!

    1. wongojack

      wongojack

What a relief.  I'm so glad we don't have to worry about Pepsi ruining the Olympics in 12 years.

  6. "We" is a troublesome word that can mean we, me or you. If the other party doesn't know which "we" is meant, it will cause delays.

    1. Tombstone
    2. Cebus Capucinis

      Cebus Capucinis

I like to throw in a royal "We" every now and again.

  7. Salieri may or may not have killed Moe Zart back in his days, but I'm good far into doing it again.

  8. 10 PM and the headache is building up again. ? I should've gone to the late open pharmacy to get some painkillers, as I just used up the last one yesterday. However it is not nearly as bad as then, when I had both headache and a fever and slept from 5:45 PM to 6:30 AM, only to determine it was due time to take a sick day.

      Get better, stat keeper.

Is there a reason why your left leg is swollen?  (Well obviously there is a reason but do you know what it is?  lol)

Yup, I just replied in the photo thread.

By the way, I'm going to stay one more day just to be safe. If there was a nearby medical station where I could visit thrice a day to get my temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, give blood samples and get my antibiotics, I could be elsewhere and productive the other 90% of my awake hours. But yeah, that is not how healthcare works. Also I understand many other patients need more continuous supervision and treatment than I do so my case may be different in that matter.

Also I realized I will get shot three hours after summer solstice.

Err.. I mean "get a shot", or at least that is the plan.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

NOOOOO!   on the Winter...Not the shot...Good Luck on that!  I've had my 2 shots...I was a little tired, bit of a sore arm.  Basically No problems whatsoever, And I'd have every problem in the book if there were any....So...Yeah,   Highly Recommended!!

That's one thing I miss about living at 53°N - dusk at 3.30pm in the Winter, and being able to read a newspaper under ambient light at 10pm on a few nights during the Summer.

      I am not a daylight-in-the-morning person.

  10. A kingdom for a versioning system!

What sort of git doesn't have a versioning system?

  11. ABBA release two new songs and are planning an entire album. Swedish radio goes bananas with live broadcast. The songs are OK but at first listen sound nothing spectacular, like slow fillers they could have recorded 40 years ago.

Actually that is a good question. The guys probably are loaded with money as is, and the girls shouldn't be strapped for cash either. Sure it could be an artistic desire but given how long they had to coax Agnetha before she recorded her comeback album a number of years ago, it doesn't really seem like they're antsy with excitement about getting back into the studio.

It could also be that the brand ABBA and whoever owns and runs it, want to ensure they can keep using it in the future, for whichever generations who fancy a pop band that had its prime 50+ years ago. By creating the digital avatars, recording some new or previously shelved songs, they keep a buzz to renew the brand. See also the ABBA Museum, the Mamma Mia movie and restaurant franchises and so on. Simply the brand and all the rights are worth too much money to let it extinguish.

From the reviews I've seen so far, many are over the moon about the new songs. Someone suggested that if ABBA decides to participate in Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to celebrate 50 years since their big break, they would receive 100% of all possible points which of course both is unrealistic and probably not part of the brand strategy regardless of how many viewers the show has. (Yes, I know that Madonna was part of the mid-show entertainment a few years ago and made a fiasco out of the performance)

But yes, I'll listen more carefully to the songs and wait for November when rest of the album is released. Perhaps they have some more edgy, borderline modern stuff there. Not that I'm a big fan of 2020's pop music anyway but I'm thinking in order for the eventually virtual ABBA to be relevant in the 2030's, they can't entirely rely on late 1970's music since the original fans will lose their hearing and eventually die off.

They can't stand the thought that rival Noregian band A-Ha ticks the box for a James Bond Offical Soundtrack! Ha Ha ha! :D

    4. carlsson

      carlsson

Wow, that is a thought I never had considered. James Bond also seems like a movie franchise in desperate need of renewal. Perhaps they have something cooking together for the times ahead, depending on how the ABBA Voyage project/album turns out.

  12. After 34 years, one of the world's most expensive murder search cases is closed with the conclusion that the most likely killer already is dead, the used weapon probably doesn't exist or has changed its properties so it could not be confirmed it was used and that none of the other suspects is likely to have done it.

  13. After a weekend with double concerts, I planned on a 10 minute body rest in the bed once I got home. It turned into a 3 hour nap, and unless I had things to do, I would probably still be asleep nearly 11 PM on Sunday evening.

Let's say if I had the option to either go to work today or spend the morning in a hot jacuzzi, the second choice would have been preferred.

Here, they sometimes call concerts "gigs."  I don't know if that term is used in Sweden.

    4. carlsson

      carlsson

Sure, but a gig to me is more like a rock band in the local pub, not a concert with 30-50 people where we also are the arranger, not booked by someone else to play.

It appears that this M-SBF96 was considered obsolete already in 2008 but apparently works fine (after a bit of cleaning). I bought it second hand a number of years ago for $2 or so.

At least you didn't pull out a rodent under there.  Once I took apart a mouse(the computer kind of mouse.) to fix the scroll wheel, I couldn't get it back together working again.

We have a saying over here, coined by the cartoon character Arne Anka, inspired but not related to Donald Duck: "To think before you speak is like wiping your ass before you take a dump".

Sometimes reading what others have written will persuade one's bias and prevent original thought.  Why not post what you think to an original post... then go back and change your ideas better information presents itself.  Then you contribute to the thought process before your views are skewed... and you can still be honest and change your mind if/when better information is present.  We do our best until we know better, then we do better.

On the other hand, like Mark Twain said... it's better to remain silent and appear stupid than it is to open it and remove all doubt (I probably slaughtered that).  I'm no longer worried about looking stupid... or at least during manic times.  I reserve the right to change my mind.  How else do you learn and grow, right?

  17. Apparently I don't need any more composite video to SCART adapters. I've got at least 7 of them (might find more later) of which 3 also support S-Video and are switchable in/out.

Also I have figured out a new magic ability I wish I had: to magically bring out every item I own, sort them by category and then put them back into proper places so I didn't have a little of everything everywhere.

I read an article the other day that some companies are telling staff that if they attend a meeting via Zoom, Skype, or other video, they must meet a minimal dress code or they will have a chat with HR.  At least don't be like that Toobin guy and put on some dang pants!  :D

If I'm at home,  I'm comfortable.   (I've been saying for Years now) I'd LOVE to be able to work from home!  The occasional meeting might be one thing, but if no one sees you and you get your work done, then who cares what you wear?

I'm with you. I don't know why it's different this year, but I've been thinking about "after Christmas" and the Springtime rush I have every year at work sine Thanksgiving, but now it's almost here and I don't think i got the most out of it.  We did all the usual stuff, maybe not as much, just extra busy at work and even moreso at home.

  22. Connecting my bedroom TV to my computer through HDMI might have been both the best and worst decision I've made in a while. It is great to have dual screens, but now I'm spoiled and can't recall what it was like only having one screen to the PC.

Yes, in the evenings I have one screen for YouTube and one screen for ... rest of the Internet. Or I toggle it to TV channels in case there is something broadcasted worth watching.

What I find nuts about it is the fact that it offered parallel processing when they were still using large DIP packages. Just seems out of place, somehow.

  24. Cool, I just got my first spam comment on an unreleased Wordpress site on a non-standard site address. The site has only been semi-live for 2 years, so that's good.

  25. Cool, one can use the SMS function to send email, but not receive replies through that gateway. As a bonus, it takes up to 48 hours for the other party to get an email bounce that it could not deliver through the SMS gateway.
