How good is Activision Anthology for GameBoy Advance?
Snoopy replied to Room 34's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Now that I think more about it.... Activision Anthology is worth getting just for the unreleased titles. Thwocker is a good little game, and Vault Assult is highly addicting. -
Thanks! I tried that and it is alot easier. I still say its a tough game though....

No, I don't need a reason. I just kind of had the idea of "Today is National Video Game Day. To celebrate I must go on ebay and buy lots and lots of Atari carts. To not do so would be a violation of my personal code of ethics for being a classic video game collector." :-) I was just thinking, too bad I didn't read this post earlier. I could have gone down to the video game store on the corner, and asked why they didn't have a special sale for today. Hmm....

How good is Activision Anthology for GameBoy Advance?
Snoopy replied to Room 34's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I highly recommend this game. 2600 Activision games you can take just about anywhere. What could be better? It was actually one of the reasons I got a GBA in the first place and I was not dissapointed. There are a few things I was a little dissapointed with. H.E.R.O. runs painfully slow. I don't know why they made it like that, but since it is one of my favorite games of all time this was a particular negative point for me. That said, there is no control setting for adjusting the game play speed for either individual games, or all the games in general. Decathalon is not a great to play on a gamepad. Same for Enduro, but that's just my personal preference. -
Hey! I haven't bought any Atari cart for ages. This gives me a good excuse to buy something! No...it gives me a reason to buy something!

So...It's easier not to follow the sound fx? I always thought that was to object of the game. I will have to look at it again. Thanks for the tip!

For some reason Dolphin is hard for me. I can usually score up to about 5000 points or so anytime I play. I think it's partly due to the fact I still haven't quite grasped the concept of the game But I am a master at Galaxian and River Raid!

The Worst Features of Yard Sales and Flea Markets
Snoopy replied to Great Hierophant's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have no problem going to yard/garage sales. In fact, my Atari 2600 collection was started off by a huge deal I found at one. It was a console, 5 or 6 joysticks, and almost 50 cartridges. All for about $5.00. Best five dollars I ever spent! It is tough though, finding stuff that I want. Sometimes I just come right out and ask "Hey do you have any old video games?" That saves time. And even if they don't I'll still look around anyway, since you never know when they may have something else of interest. The best time to hit the yard sales is first thing in the morning, when they are first opening up. The thing I have always found about garage sales is that people usually just want to get rid of the stuff....it's a profitable method of spring cleaning. Which means that the sellers are open to customers making offers. "Hey I'll give you ten bucks for this box of Atari stuff! Sold? Allriiiight!" Flea markets are a little different. It's not that I feel uncomfortable going to any of them, but the ones I have been to in the past few years seem to be populated by specialized vendors, as opposed to someone renting a table just for the day to sell stuff to get rid of it. By specialized vendors I mean that these people are there every week selling a particular kind of product. Lots of antique dealers, booths of "As seen on TV" stuff, NASCAR and miscellaneous sorts memoribilia, music and movies (both obviously pirated and legit), crafters items, and sometimes even food items. I don't find the classic video games that I am looking for very often. When I do, it's usually a horrible deal (read: Atari 2600 Pacman and combat carts for $4.00.) -
You beat me to it! What made this game for me was definitely the music. I remember reading a long time ago that the music was written by a popular Japanese composer, although I do not recall his name. Gameplay itself was good and I always kind of wished they would have made a sequal. I have great memories of magic of scheherazade. When I was in the 3rd and 4th grade, my dad and I used to stay up late on Friday and Saturday nights and play it.

While my main interest is still Atari, I have started to lean more towards classic NES games and accessories the past few years. This is mainly because they are more abundant at yard sales these days, and its rare for me to find much atari stuff anymore. At most yard sales the past few years I have been able to get a box of games and stuff for a few dollars. Sort of how it used to be for Atari games.

Did endings decrease replay value?
Snoopy replied to 7800Lover's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think that ultimately, yes. Endings do effect the overall replayability of a game to an extent. I'm basing this argument more so on modern games...but the same rule can apply for many older games as well. Just think of how many games are very difficult, if not impossible to finish WITHOUT the help of a strategy guide. This goes along with the theory that some of you already mentioned, about the video game companies getting too money hungry. But the replayability of the game is going to depend mostly on the initial playability. If it's fun to begin with, and not impossible, people will want to play it again and again regardless. This is why titles like the Super Mario Bros. series are still popular to this day. They were fun, and while there were alot of hidden things (warp zones...etc) one could easily find them WITHOUT using a strategy guide or hint book. I think this is why I loved playing those games so much, because I always felt like I discovered something great each time I found something hidden in one of those games. If this were't the case, I don't think that they would be porting alot of the classics on GBA. -
Halloween Horror Classics! Who's playing?
Snoopy replied to figgler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Haunted house definitely. I think Maniac Mansion is a good Halloween game. What about Ghostbusters?!?!? This is a halloween thread and I can't believe no one has mentioned Ghostbusters yet!!! :-P -
The Magic of Scheherazade was an RPG by Culture Brain for NES is one of my favorite games of all time. Everything from the game play to the music was just phenominal. Actually, I think the music was the best part....But I'm wondering why this game wasn't more popular than it was at the time. Could it have been it was just a little ahead of its time? I would REALLY like to see this released for the GBA...but somehow I doubt that will ever happen.....

-The bad controllers? Well, I'm not sure if this was THE reason, but it certainly didn't help. I really think that if situations would have been different, and the 5200 had a chance to really shine, then more and better alternatives would have been available. Eventually, Atari may have done away with the original controllers altogether. -The inability to play 2600 games? I don't think this was an issue. If you look at the different video game systems released over the years, very few systems have been backwards compatible. I guess this could have been an issue at the time, however, considering that video games were still relatively new, and this may have been something that people wanted at the time. Any thoughts on this? -The poor line of games? Nope...not at all. This system had a very good line of games. I would have to agree with alot of previous posts, that probably the biggest reason for the downfall of the 5200 was that it was released at a bad time. All things considered, this is my favorite system

Definitely TMNT 2: The Arcade game... I hate to think how much money in quarters I spent on that when it was actually in the arcade. But I did end up getting it for Christmas one year for NES. The original TMNT game was okay. Not terrible. Not great. Just ok. I'll agree that it was screaming for a save option.

VERY nice....Kind of gives me the idea to do the same thing, only with a Pac man theme.

Well, I've always thought that I go through alot of work when I bring home new games from the fleamarket/yardsale/ebay. They all get thoroughly cleaned with rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs. Carts get cleaned pretty well on the outside of any dirt or stuff that may be on them. Actual systems are given equally thorough cleaning treatment. I will occasionally use endust for electronics to polish off the outer part of any console. I guess I should say however, that I don't really do much cleaning of the games once I have them...I mean, they are stored in rubbermaid boxes...so they dont have much of a chance to get too dirty.

There's also the flea market in Rogers Ohio. Here's the website: http://www.rogersohio.com/ I've had some pretty good finds here. They have it every friday, and it's HUGE. Even if you get there at an early hour, you'll be lucky to get through all of it.

This is great. I have been wondering for a while though, why Ebay hasn't added such a feature themselves on their website.

Hey, great site! Thanks for the info!

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows of any good websites dedicated to the mattel electronics hand held games from the late 70's - early 80's. You know, the games with the little red LED's for game play... I tried doing a google search but all I can seem to come up with is websites for the Intellivision. Thanks in advance.

Your mom plays atari games? That's awesome. Any mom that plays video games is really cool. And no, Snoopy's mom has never ever played any video games. *sniff!* *sniff!* To answer your question, I think my highest score is probably around 100,000.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I should say that once someone wins one of our auctions, we send an email that breaks down the price; listing the cost of the item, shipping cost, delivery confirmation, and give the total. Not that these things aren't listed in the original item description. We do this so that the customer knows what they are paying for, and knows that we are not trying to over charge for anything. Does anyone else have trouble with people trying to renegotitate shipping and handling charges after the completion of an auction?

PBS Video Gmae Documentary to Air Sept 8th
Snoopy replied to GrizzLee's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, I got to see that. It was pretty good. I wonder why all of a sudden, they are producing video game documentaries? Not that I'm complaining....
