You'll have to get the driver from queststudios to play Sierra games with the Mt-32 thru a soundblaster card. The soundblaster doesn't use a real uart for data transmission so when you load up Space Quest III (My personal favorite) it won't be able to load up the patch banks into the Mt-32.
Hey, local. I forgot about that. What about compatible cards or stuff like a Gravis Ultrasound? Would those need a driver too?
Not sure about the gravis, never had one, but I know with the soundblasters and all compatibles they had a dumb uart that was only capable of transmitting actual midi data to the MT-32. Without the smart uart you couldn't transmit patch banks to the MT-32. That's why I rushed out to Guitar Center back in 97 and purchased a dos midi-man. Because the Win midi-man used the same dumb uart that was controlled by windows to handle the data flow. Kind of like a winmodem today. I hunted my MT-32 down across all of central Florida and found it at a beach pawn shop out in Cocoa at 5:00p.m. they closed at 6:00 p.m. I've never driven that fast before or since.
