  1. If you mean images - its probably because your browser is trying to handling them - save them instead of viewing them.
  2. Announcing http://adamarchive.org Many of us have lamented over the fact that there is no central repository for everything ADAM. Yes there are a number of great sites that support the great system but no archive like there are for other systems such as: Commodore: http://www.lemon64.com/ TI 99: http://www.ti99db.org/index.php TRS-80: http://www.trs-80.com Apple: http://apple2.org/ Sinclair: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/ This is just the tip of the iceberg. With the adam we have great sites such as http://www.sacnews.net/adamcomputer/, my own http://smartbasic.net/ and others but they are more of a "labor of love" and not a resource that can be created and maintained by the ADAM community. So to help eliviate this I have setup The Coleco ADAM Archive at http://adamarchive.org. As of launch it has 1,293 posts containing disk images, 3,954 newsletter pages in a very easy to access format. For example newsletters are stored in the archive and you can download the pdf for your own use, or if you are like me you can click on an image thumbnail and leaf through any of the 180+ newsletters online using you phone (or computer). If you have installed Adam 2018 (or other front end for the AdamEM emulator and associated .dsk and .ddp to it) you can click on disk (or tape) images on the site and have them open up in your emulator on your computer. I have added a number of pages detailing how you can help the Archive grow so please feel free to visit and get involved.
  3. Has anyone tried to use TeleDisk to make backups of the copy protected stuff? It doesnt care about bad blacks - I know you cant access it via the emulator but it makes a backup copy. Milli
  4. Here is a simple replacement power supply I have made and have been using for 2 years - Ihave made a number of them http://smartbasic.net/2017/11/28/replacement-power-supply/ Milli
  5. I removed my memory expansion to see if that made a difference - now I just get the error around block 36 in Backup+ - which makes sense as that is where FileManager got them. Was able to unmount and remount the image and then click retry to get it working a few times. MIlli
  6. First off let me say my experience has been overall very positive but I am now having issues with it as I use it more. I have termed it the "Kevin" effect as one of our members on the Coleco Adam facebook page has been having these issues for almost 6 months now. So here are the problems I have had so far today: I experienced the "Kevin" Effect 3 times today on my Floppy Emulator while trying to make copies from the VDD to a tape, at block 70 it would just freeze up. Once I got an error which mounting and unmounting let me get past block 69 and then it froze at 70, the other 2 times nothing. The "Kevin" effect struck again - different SD card, different copy of the same file! I am starting to think that if the VDD has an issue with the image it just locks up. Though what issue would it have - it shouldn't be doing anything but reading and sending. The same images open just fine in the emuator or on their own when mounted instead of being copied. Locked up on block 36 trying to copy a disk image to tape using Flie Manager 3.0 Locked up on block 160 of a disk image read on a different file using Backup+ These are all different images on 2 different SD cards Milli
  7. First thing - open up the Adam and make sure nothing is loose or shorting it - then make sure the chips are seated good. Since the CV is working odds are you have an issue with Rom and / or ram. The ROM chips you can reseat, the ram are soldered in. Also clean the edge connector on both CV and Adam. As for the CV power supply you do not need it and should not have it plugged in when using the Adam. You may want to head over to the facebook coleco adam page - more of us hang out there too - you may get quicker responses Milli
  8. Ok - besides the obvious I would like to have it stay on, I wonder if you can answer this - we (Kevin Laskowski) and I have started to realized that we get errors on reading images only after the backlight has turned off - would you know if this can be cause issues in timing which would cause these issues (basically a device not ready error, at least that is how Backup+ refers to it - mounting and unmounting the image fixes it for Backup+ - but there is no fix for smart basic programs - they just crash Milli
  9. Does anyone know if any of these jumpers on the VDD control the backlight? I want it to stay on always not shut off Milli
  10. Well I thought it would be a good idea, but ... Milli
  11. My reasoning for asking about this was simple: I do a lot of programming on the Adam and often times I have questions or want to share what I have done. I have been doing this on Facebook and on my own blog. I would like to reach a larger Adam specific audience and I think AtariAge is the place, but the Colecovision forum is not. Its the same as on FB, we have the Coleco Adam page and we also have the numerous colecovision pages. If I have a question about the DDP or how to do 80 columns in CP/M or, as in the case of today, does the left hardware reset button on the adam reload EOS from rom or leave it in memory. I could post this in the colecovision / adam forum here and probably 99% of the readers would not have a clue what I meant by the left hardware reset button, but all the adam users would. A good example is a post I made on 4/24 "64 MB HD for your Adam". It was read 252 times but only 4 people replied. WhatI disclosed in this post was very "groundbreaking" I learned you could have a 65MB SD HD on the adam if you owned the VDD. The overwhelming majority probably had no clue what it meant and this post very quickly, with in a day or so fell off the main page but an Adam user like myself would know. Milli PS As for a moderator - if you need one I volunteer: I have had experience running forums - in 2005 - 2007 I ran ts1000.us - the largest Sinclair board around.
  12. Dont have to move any - just start a new one Milli
  13. Is there any way to get the Adam split from the colecovision on here? Maybe put in the classic computer section. Not to be a whiner but I would get more use out of atari age if I didnt have to look through all the colecovision posts to find somethign of relevance to the adam and I am sure that the colecovision guys probably would feel better not having to see posts that pertain to the adam only. 15. My longest video to date: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh_PuyUpV3M Milli
  16. Let me know how this goes - I dont have a disk drive so I can't do it with just the VDD, at least I dont think I can - I havent found how to "disk swap" using file manager Milli
  17. It should use the same process as copying the boot record and smart basic from tape to disk with the only caveat being you have to change the directory values. I used an 8 block directory not a single block like a disk Milli
  18. There is no way to switch images so that would be a manual thing
  19. It's still early - but its like asking what the benefit of a HD was over a diskette. With a big image like this it opens up the possibility of a new DOS (or a real one) for the adam. Milli
  20. http://smartbasic.net/2018/04/24/64-mb-hard-disk-for-your-adam/ Milli
  21. How about a 65mb SD hard drive for the Adam? And since you can mount different ones - dozens of 65mb hard drives for the adam Milli (Bill)
  22. In another thread a user posted a very detailed review of the VDD and in it he stated that it can only handle 1.44mb disk images. Well as Prince said in "Let's go crazy" ... I'm here to tell you there's something else.... The VDD can handle images up to 65MB. I created a very simple self booting program to read blocks from a 65mb disk image I made on my PC and it reads them just fine. Though the Adam can address up to 4GB in disk sizes the VDD balks on images over 65mb in size, says they are too large (though AdamEM emulator has no issue with them). Anywho you can see a video of it posted on coleco adam facebook page https://www.facebook.com/milli.v.hicks/videos/971640363001700/ Milli
  23. It disappoints me to learn that they hard coded the 1.44 mb limit in the VDD. I have been working on a project that would have used larger size images and was planning actual coding and testing this weekend. What a waste to put this in there when absolutely no need for it. Now I have to scrap the project. Milli
