When I was a kid, we were taught Jupiter had 13 moons. Now I just learned from watching season 2 of The Expanse that it has 79 moons. Checking a Wikipedia article, it has closer to 600 natural satellites ranging in diameter from 5300 km for Ganymede to a few meters for most. It is basically surrounded by its own asteroid belt.

  I remember the encyclopedias my parents had from the mid-70's said "We now know Saturn has 3 rings." And this was after the probes had already gone by and showed there were a lot more than that. ?

  Over time, people mess with the code, to make it better. There is no sky, earth or anything for that matter. It's a Simulation. They get bored, sometimes introduce weird parameters, like "Dude, what would happen, if we write this virus?", or "Let's tell people about some kind of planet, what should we come up with?". It would be harder to just come up with "Earth II - Welcome Back", so the program gets "improved", over time. </TINFOIL>
