Hey guys, I've listed a nice batch of unusual Atari 2600 games on eBay. If you're interested in boxed rarites and unusual import games, be sure to check out the following link: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...&userid=marco_k Thanks for looking! Cheers, Marco

You're welcome And feel free to yell any more 700 year old names at me from time to time, if that makes you feel any better  Cheers, Marco

Hey guys, This may surprise you, but this was all without any alcohol. Yes indeed, I am known to enjoy life and smile a lot  @San, I don't know of any pictures on line of the Frankfurt gathering, I just got some pics of this scene from John. Cheers, Marco PS: you should see me *after* some beers

Nope, he's not mine but the guy's in the front of the picture (black hair). That's John C. (long, unpronouncable last name), lives in Switzerland at the moment. Great guy that visits all of the European gaming conventions. I'm the guy smiling behind the table, in the background you can also see Marc Oberhäuser, and the guy holding the baby is Roloff "Deleto" de Jeu, a friend of mine from Holland (long time convention visitor and writer for Digital Press). Yup, we're a happy bunch Cheers, Marco

Isn't the delay in getting a ROM out always legit? Cheers, Marco

Hi guys, I got a bunch of pictures today from the latest Frankfurt convention, that was held some time ago. It's a nice get-together held twice a year, where people sell/buy/trade classic video game stuff. The meeting has become a small reunion of veterans of EuroCon. In the picture below you can see a durability test of Brazilian Atari 2600 games. And yes, after this Baby Dance, they still worked! Cheers, Marco

I'd use the following rarity ratings: 2 loose CCE game 2 loose Polyvox game 7 CCE or Polyvox game with manual 8 boxed CCE game 8 boxed Polyvox game 9 CCE game in plastic bubble wrap package Again, it is important here not to confuse rarity and value. While a boxed "9" USA release would fetch $$$, a European / S-American / Asian / Australian "pirate 9" would be worth much, much less. So is the current market. Cheers, Marco

Wahoo! I have a follower! Indeed, to me a TEN is a game that most collectors will never have. All the rest is gettable, only a matter of time. Should that read "matter of money"? I don't think so. I suspect that most carts will loose their value over time. Only the TENs will remain valuable. Somehow, there's just not enough collectors around to make (95% of) the supply scarce. Cheers, Marco

I am friends with him and I probably live closest to him of all his foreign buyers, but I have not received my package yet. So, "friends" and "shipping time/cost" are not the criteria he uses. YES, Fish, PLEASE SPEAK UP! Cheers, Marco -
Gelukkig Nieuwjaar allemaal Cheers, Marco

Rarity of the official Atari 2600 suitcase?
Marco(2) replied to MattG/Snyper2099's topic in Rarity Guide
Is there actually a box for it? I thought I remembered seeing one on eBay about three years ago, that came with a kind of 'wrapper' - or was it indeed a box? Cheers, Marco -
Where the hell did you get THAT from?! The cart came from England, the box from eBay. Even though their titles don't match, I still consider them to be a match Cheers, Marco

[*]How long have you been collecting? Ever since 1984, actively since 1990, on the internet since 1994 [*]How many total carts do you have? 1700 Atari 2600 games (manufacturer variations, no duplicates or label variations), 1300 are boxed [*]What is your "showcase" cart? Ewok Adventure prototype plus Revenge of the Jedi Game I box Cheers, Marco

And with that wonderful sentiment, I wish everyone here All Cheers, Marco

Yep, as your write in your edit, I was talking about Okie Dokie as the first new game / homebrew to create a big stir amongst collectors. Edtris and SoundX were hyped much less.

Cool! So, it's not arbitrary after all Seriously, it's just something I use for myself to keep things apart. To me, Cubicolor is in every way part of the classic era. I don't have scientific proof or criteria for that (Thomas will hate me for this, I bet  ), it just feels that way to me. Somehow, Okie Dokie kinda feels that way too, though it's clear I'm getting on a very slippery slope there. There's probably no way to distinguish Okie Dokie from other homebrews, apart from the fact it was the one that started it all. I guess I want to credit Bob Colbert for that by granting him a place in 2600 history. Ahum, I'm getting way too serious here, so let's move on! Cheers, Marco

Warlords (multiplayer) Air Sea Battle (no-mercy tournament) Cheers, Marco
-
Yeah, I guess you're right, and your system will probably work fine. Only thing is that we'd have quite a lot of categories for different types of games, and I'm a sucker for simple classifications I always consider Cubicolor a regular game, which of course is a bit arbitrary - but it works for me Cheers, Marco

Questions for fellow NES collectors

Nobody likes NES Cheers, Marco -
I wouldn't 'impose' any rarity nor value scale on homebrews, hacks or reproductions. IMHO they should in no way be compared with the 'originals', they are a league of their own, where other rules apply. Indeed, giving a new game a '10' would be an insult to Air Raid and Video Life c.s. Cheers, Marco

The following is from a letter from CommaVid offering a new run of Magicards. "Is the Magicard rare enough to interest collectors of rare 2600 cartridges? Answer: I don't know. Here are the numbers, make up your own mind. Original sales were apporximately 500 (five hundred). Due to the difficulty of obtaining certain parts shared by the "Magicard" and "Video Life" (but not our other cartridges), we plan to produce only about 700 (seven hundred) more COMBINED TOTAL OF BOTH these cartridges. (Because Video Life has only been offered by direct mail, it is currently much rarer than the MagiCard!)" If this is correct, they planned to make a combined total of 1,200 Magicards and Video Lifes. I think it's safe to assume that they didn't. Also, the percentages of Magicards vs Video Lifes are unknown. But if you look at those numbers, it is pretty amazing that, in the end, only 20 Video Lifes were produced and/or sold. Was CommaVid merely inflating sales figures in their letter, or did they over-estimate the market potential for these games? Cheers, Marco
