Currently up for auction on eBay: 28 copies of Combat, price: from 1 cent to $5 for a boxed game 26 copies of Space Invaders, price: from 1 cent to $7 for a boxed game 30 copies of Pitfall I or II, price: from 1 cent to $5 for a boxed game 44 copies of Asteroids, price: from 1 cent to $5 for a boxed game 11 copies of Enduro, price: from 50 cents to $4 for a boxed game 13 copies of Demon Attack, price: from 1 cent to $4 for a boxed game Hundreds of Atari 2600 systems up for auction, price: 95 cents and up In my simple, 2-category rarity system of rares & not-so-rares it's a buyers market (players and collectors) on about 95% of the Atari 2600 games and a sellers market (mostly collectors) on the remaining 5%. Sellers listing Combats and ETs as Unbelievably Rare are ours to laugh at. They will do it once, maybe twice, and then realize this hobby really isn't in their hands. The supply on 95% of the games and consoles is simply way too overwhelming for the demand to make up for a market controlled by sellers. Cheers, Marco

As right wing governments are replacing more left-oriented governments all over, it looks like Stoiber is heading for a win. Of course, I don't get to vote in Germany, so I really don't have a preference for either. As if it makes such big a difference who's in charge (well, not taking the US into consideration) anyway. So, let's all talk football again  Cheers, Marco

Shouldn't that read "trying to drive on the right side of the road"? Cheers, Marco -

LEARN the metric system? What is there to learn about? There's 1, then there's 10, then 100 etc etc Now, if you'd have to tell a child how many pounds to a stone, inches to a mile, pints to a gallon, I can imagine THAT would shorten its life by about a year - from utter confusion Cheers, Marco -
Swordquest Airworld for Atari 2600 going (back) up on eBay

Psssst, he doesn't have those beautiful Euros yet. You know, he's from that country where they still use that mediaeval system for measuring weight and distance, because it's so much easier than the metric system...or something... Cheers, Marco -
Swordquest Airworld for Atari 2600 going (back) up on eBay

I don't think it will be a matter of who sees it or bids on it first, but more likely who will bid last. This might be the snipe of the century! Cheers, Marco -

Now if you all back out, thinking it will go too high anyway, it'll be a nice catch for me Cheers, Marco -
Sorry man, nothing left here in the basement... Cheers, Marco

CGE Save/Whales, Crack'ed, Pick-Up NOW AVAILABLE!
Marco(2) replied to Snider-man's topic in Atari 2600
So now you have a healthy wife and baby, a still-filled wallet, and all the cool new releases... looks like we have a winner here! Cheers, Marco -
Yes, that crown is certainly yours Cheers, Marco

I love the re-releases, because they give us an idea of what might have been, and they show the love and effort the makers put into (re)creating them. However, as to their collecting value, I think it's null. They are artificially and consciously created rarities. Very cool to have, but in a league of their own. Same thing as why I would never call Thrust the best Atari 2600 game ever (sorry Thomas ): the two (old and new) should just not be compared. The only artificial rarity that I think is really collectable is Cubicolor Cheers, Marco

I have no idea why questioning what someone spends would be an "of course" matter, especially when it's been done a gazillion times before and it has become more than obvious that the questioning will never be responded to with an answer that will satisfy you or any of the non-$$$-collectors. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is need nor sense in questioning, let alone converting collectors. They do what they find enjoyable - why not let them be? Hmm, I was trying to understand your perspective, I'm sorry to see that you don't have any appreciation of my point of view. Though those statements in this thread may have been softened to avoid stepping on anyone's toes, they still remain 'attacks' on collectors. At least, they sure feel like it for the receivers of the message. And I just don't see any contribution to the hobby in general or this message board in particular coming from that. I am under the impression that people on this board disagree with the majority all the time, but I could be wrong. Perhaps it has something to do with your habit of starting controversial threads? As for this specific matter, I think you're actually part of the majority that thinks spending a lot of money on games is silly or insane. And being part of that majority, I don't think that anyone on this board has ever flamed you for being a player. Players are respected by all of us, and I think you know that very well. Unlike collectors they are never questioned by fellow-hobbyists. As a collector I just wish I would be treated with the same live-and-let-live attitude. As long as I have been in this hobby, people have been complaining about money - and it didn't change a thing. But I see my complaints don't change a thing either, so I guess it's better to just let this issue rest and let the next generation deal with it. Cheers, Marco

Hi Adam, Nope, they didn't release these. The same guy (hi Marc!) that did Combat II release Snow White and RS BB. You will surely like the result. Cheers, Marco

So you went for Robot City and not Jake huh? Robot City is nice, but Jake is a bit more unusual, I think. Maybe next time? How smart did you make the tanks - is it the same as in the Videopac version? Cheers, Marco
-
Hey, you didn't say this to the Germans! Are they getting a better price?! Cheers, Marco

Ah, I thought you meant that. Guess I was too sensitive then when I read statements like: "but that much money for a single 2600 game is nuts to me" "It's nuts to me too" "but to pay that much for a game, it crazy in my opinion" While I should have paid more attention to: "Again, before people freak out - I UNDERSTAND the reason for overpaying for things like this". Nobody called collectors insane, and the thread started out as a question about the value of a specific game, so I probably overreacted. But I think you cannot deny that this is a reoccuring issue where players and "I will not pay more than $10" people keep questioning their fellow hobbyists, the collectors. I never question anyone who does not spend lots of money on his games or does other Atari-related things I don't do myself. That is, I think, why I find this call to justify my way of enjoying Atari so frustrating and unfair. Oh, I think I was also annoyed by your comment that you cannot say on this board what you want. Now I think that is nuts! Cheers, Marco

Actually, I think they did make a couple of working prototypes. That's not to say they work well: these controllers give you an instant headache. The game that they made for it is Bionic Breakthrough, but Atari probably planned some more. Cheers, Marco

Chris, I'm still wondering what your reply to my initial post in this thread was about. It's a bit cryptic to me... Cheers, Marco

Did the Spider-man movie have any impact on the game's value
Marco(2) replied to tyranthraxus's topic in Auction Central
I thought the movie pretty much sucked, so the price on the game should have come down actually... Cheers, Marco -
Yep, Clogger is dead  Cheers, Marco

Sorry, I don't think I understand what you mean. I apparently don't know the answer to my question, so you must mean something else. Do you mean I forgot to include the complainers in my list? Do you also mean I'm just as much of a complainer? Please explain. Cheers, Marco

Now now, we don't like that kind of violent behaviour on this board - you probably played too much Affenjagd Cheers, Marco

Which one? The $ : x = ]0..] Yes, that one - works for any taste! Cheers, Marco
