If you opened your own arcade what would be in it?
Blackjack replied to TheBman80's topic in Arcade and Pinball
OK, you asked for it....... First of all I'd have a seperate room for SERIOUSLY Old Schoolers like myself. Patrons would pay an entrance fee for this room and have to be a minimum age or be accompanied by a taser wielding child hater. 1962 Williams Road Racer 1957 United Jumbo Bowling Alley I used to play this one with my dad while drinking "choc cola" at the family room of a bar called the Stucco House. Great memories. My all time favs were electro mechanical gun games. 1972 Williams Stockade 1971 Midway Wild Kingdom 1972 Midway Haunted House 1967 Midway Monster Gun 1967 Midway One Million BC 1968 Williams Aqua Gun 1967 Williams Arctic Gun And although I've never played this one, I really want to Pussy Shooter ---------------------------------------- Then a Pinball Area with: Haunted House Charlies Angels Theatre of Magic The Addams Family Star Trek Next Gen The X Files Medieval Magic Pinbot High Speed Gorgar Creature from the Black Lagoon and a few really old wood rail pins ---------------------------------------- Some Newer (relatively) Arcade Machines: Savage Quest... My Favorite Killer Instinct Tekken 5 and a few of the popular, modern, money makers like DDR. ----------------------------------------- Lots of Classic Arcade Games: Lethal Enforcers 1 &2 Operation Wolf Asteroids Star Wars Double Dragon Chelnov Joust Paperboy Pacman & Ms. Pacman Tempest Missile Command Centipede Front Line Exitebike Burgertime Donkey Kong + Jr. Super Mario Bros. Punch Out Crossbow Gauntlet Rastan Golden Axe Kangaroo Star Castle Galaga Space Invaders Defender Berzerk Many More... --------------------------------------------- And to finish things off...... Super Chexx Bubble Hockey -
Supposedly, this emulator will boot the PS2 bios, no games are playable but he's working on it Now I'm jazzed!

Dev Team size and time to produce a game
Blackjack replied to Blackjack's topic in Classic Console Discussion
So you'd say a general avg. team/time on snes was 6devs/6months? I know it's bad to generalize like that. I'm just curious about the man-hours involved here ,mostly in a historical perspective, but I'm also interested to learn that programming now is easier and less time consuming than it was back then. -
How Do I Make the Most Money Selling Video Games?
Blackjack replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've always said... I don't care if someone gouges me 500% on shipping, as long as I know up front what the cost is, he's not cheating me. If I'm willing to pay $20 for a game, I really don't care how much of it's shipping, it's still 20 bucks. -

... And I wonder.... is it easier to program an Atari game now than it was back then. Are there dev tools that make the job easier(for those of you with the talent)? -
I know (or think I do) that most 2600 games were developed completely by a single person, but about how long did an average game take to make? And.......... How many people/how long did it usually take to make a game for: NES SNES I know that these will vary widely, I would just like a general average.

What kind of game would you fund if you could?
Blackjack replied to Flojomojo's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Fantastic Question! I'd do some fairly unusual stuff........ First a collection of Light Gun Game Simulations of old Electro-Mechanical Light Gun Arcade Games in order to preserve the experience and make it available to future generations. Including some of my historical favorites: Haunted House -Midway 1972 Arctic Gun - Williams 1967 Stockade - Williams 1972 Wild Kingdom - 1971 Midway One Million BC - 1969 Midway Aquagun - Williams 1968 And many, many more! Then....... 1) A port of Savage Quest (arcade) to PC or PS3 2) Re-Volt 2 3) Dungeon Keeper 3 4) A bunch of Atari 2600 ports, remakes, and original ideas Archon, Gold Miner, Frostbite 2, Dragonfire 2, Logan's Run, Enemy Mine, Princess Bride (as above), several more 5) A version of Battlefield 1942 with added features I want and decent AI And Finally...... My own version of Mame32 That's just off the top of my head though -
Man, don't take it back.... consider it a small donation for a needy student. They rip people off every day and now all these people have made you feel guilty about taking a few pennies out of the pockets of millionaire criminals. I feel like that little devil that pops up on your shoulder to talk you into bad things.

I'm not saying 2 wrongs=right.... I'm just saying HIS particular wrong doesn't equal scumbag, and I can't feel sorry for the scumbags he wronged. ..... and I'll have to try the orphan babies

WOW, hey any of you guys ever give someone much less money for a game than what it was worth because they didn't know any better? It's ok if you think he was wrong, but the guy is NOT as low as many are making him out to be (from their glass houses to boot). Goodwill rips off plenty of people every day. If he would have paid the usual $30 bucks or so for the system, got it home to find out it didn't work and took it back, they would NOT have given him his money back..... and that's on something they got for free for christs sake! And he didn't "steal $2.99 from a special needs person", probably only a fraction of a cent would ever make it to someone needy, the rest goes to the company big shots who are busy trying to figure out new ways to save money by making life even more difficult for their already underpaid hourly workers. All the while cashing in on government (read:taxes) money for all the so called "charity" work they do. A2600, I'm not saying you were right, I'm saying it's just not nearly as bad as some are making it out to be. If you had stolen something from some blind guy at the flea market, then yes, you're scum. But no matter what happens to an evil corporate entity like Good Will, I'll never feel sorry for them.
-
I'm WAY jazzed that someone spent some money on the Re-Volt franchise. Re-Volt was, imho, one of the most underrated games ever..... well, that and Dungeon Keeper 2, but I digress I'm really hoping someone picks this up and runs with it!

The Krokodile cart I got here at the Atari Age store is the best you can get, but I think they're out.... There's one called the A26 maxicart that works well, but I'm not sure where to get one... try a google. On the off chance you are just wanting to play the game with the original controls, you can always use the stelladapter, also sold right here. They work GREAT! http://www.atariage.com/store/product_info...products_id=267

1st games to use the level/level boss format?
Blackjack replied to Blackjack's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I always just considered this an "additional stage", not really a boss, but of course that's completely open to opinion. There is some pretty "gray" area here on what is or isn't a level/boss format. -

What would have been the first (or some of the first) games made to use the level>level boss thing? A quick look in my Mame Favorites turned up these: Shinobi (87) Chelnov (88) Renegade (86) R-Type (87) Sunset Riders (91) -
Don't know about prices, but here's a good handheld website. http://www.handheldmuseum.com/
