HSC Season 1 Week 10: Donkey Kong 3
Blackjack replied to Deteacher's topic in Arcade/MAME High Score Club
Are you talking about the little blue butterfly guys that come down the sides, then shoot over and nail you? They get me a lot. Make sure to hit 'em on the way down, they're not too tough to hit, just make them the priority when you see 'em........ or when they get to your level, jump up to the next one real quick. They'll circle around and go back up. -
HSC Season 1 Week 10: Donkey Kong 3
Blackjack replied to Deteacher's topic in Arcade/MAME High Score Club
Finally.... got to level 10. 128,300 Getting a lot better at dealing with those little blue butterfly guys. If they get to the level your on, just go ahead and jump to the next level or you will die. I'm enjoying this game.... good pick. I remember playing it once or twice (back in the day), but that's it. -
HSC Season 1 Week 10: Donkey Kong 3
Blackjack replied to Deteacher's topic in Arcade/MAME High Score Club
I didn't know you could finish a level by killing enough insects...... thanks for the tip! I only ever got kong to the top or got killed in the process. Update: 97,200 There are little fast blue insects that start about this level that are a serious pain! If you let them get level with you, they shoot over and kill you. I've seen them at level 6, but at level 7 they get a lot worse. And don't let kong get too close to the bottom of the vines, he'll jump on you. I thought he probably would, but this is the first time it actually happened. It's possible to get your ddt cannister right before level 5 ends and then you can keep it long enough (if your quick) to clear the next 2 levels with it. -

That's a little better. 75,300 I checked my dipswitches and it was on medium before, though I honestly can't say a could tell what the difference was. -
HSC Season 1 Week 10: Donkey Kong 3
Blackjack replied to Deteacher's topic in Arcade/MAME High Score Club
Just gave it a quick try. 25,700. Somebody let me know what the default dip switch settings are, I want to make sure I'm legal. -
I think I'm getting worse. I can't top the score I got on the first game when I hooked up my control panel. I get close, but always manage to choke!
-
Feel's a lot better with the control panel.... 170,020 for now
-
Ok, I'm in. Great to see HSC going for mame! I gotta make some room on my desk for my control panel (slik stik), cause playing this game with the keyboard just stinks. Starting out at 50,610 And hey..... remind me which key takes a screenshot in mame32.

How many arcades did you have in your town growing up?
Blackjack replied to jboypacman's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I grew up in a TINY town of about 800 people.... my high school class was 23 students. We had one arcade with about 8 or 9 videogames and a pinball. The pool hall at the end of town had 2 videogames, a pinball, and a couple pool tables. The Cafe on Main Street had one videogame. -
Anybody know the Indie Game Business at all?
Blackjack replied to Blackjack's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Good info, thanks! I don't suppose anybody has an idea of sales numbers for any of the popular games, do they? Or an educated guess even? -
I'm not a game developer (nor will I ever be), I just get curious about things and have to find out, so I have a few questions. If anybody can increase my knowlege a little, I'd appreciate it. (and I realize the answers will just have to be generalizations, as most of the answers would vary widely) Concerning small, modern indie games like zuma, bejeweled, diner dash, etc. Games that are just downloaded and purchased. 1) What kind of development time are we talking..... weeks, months, a year? 2) What kind of sales figures 10k/100k? 3) I know some devs just sell their games off their own website, but a lot of them go through places like "Reflexive Arcade". Of the 20 bucks that most of these games cost...... how much goes to the developer?

How to go about having a game made?
Blackjack replied to Blackjack's topic in Modern Console Discussion
That does look interesting. I'd want the quality at a level far surpassing what I'm capable of though. Not only am I not a programmer, but I have the artistic ability of the average gorilla...... in fact I may even be somewhat less artistic than the average gorilla -
Not that I have the money right now anyway...... but I was wondering if I wanted a game to be made (small game like solitaire or battleship, maybe in flash), how would one go about getting that done? I remember seeing a company online several years ago that did this sort of thing, but I can't find them anymore.

IT'S ALIVE II CV Mutant Gamepad!
Blackjack replied to joeybastard's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Very nice Frankenpad you've created there. I'd like one myself. -
Ok Don..... now listen carefully. If you are running just mame instead of Mame32 or Mame32plus, you need to download and use Mame32plus Click this HERE. To get them to run full screen: Go to Options>Default Options>Display and uncheck "run in a window" Now, If you want to buy a pre-made cabinet.... http://www.dreamauthentics.com/product_page_2_ex.html or http://www.x-arcade.com/htm/cabinet.shtml If you would rather build it yourself. Go HERE and learn everything.

Well, it sounds like I may be putting a CV on the shelf where my 2600 sits then. I really liked the games I played on the system in HSC.
-
All the info you'll ever need..... and then some. http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm
-
Are there any 2600 games that the CV with adapter aren't compatible with? Are there any problems with using the 2600 adapter? Does anyone make flash carts for the CV? You can use CX Joysticks in the CV, can't you? Would the Krokodile Cart work in the adapter? Thanks.

Different Font, Scoring, and Starts out MUCH faster/more difficult. I was able to roll over the score in Atlantis, but A2 kicked my butt.
-
I have a pair, they're actually called "grabber balls". I don't like'em though, I just keep 'em around because they're amusing. They ruin the feel of the joystick imo. btw, I don't think the original guy is gonna answer...... he hasn't logged in in over 4 years.
