  1. Well, simply put....If we want to archive (as in to preserve or protect) our 'digital heritage' (i.e not just the hardware but also software as well) emulation and emulation formats are at present the only way we can do so (unless someone else has a better idea) And since the people that own the rights to said hardware or software that have been archived (or preserved/protected) in this fashion (i.e. emulation and emulation formats) aren't interested in archiving or preserving/protecting our 'digital heritage' then it is down LARGELY to us as CONSUMERS (or users) Emulation formats as in atr/xfd/st/msa/d64/tzx/tap etc etc There is a way that homebrewers can benefit from the emulation market as stated elsewhere in these forums, simply do some sort of itunes alike service and network it amongst the various sites that make up the classic/retro platform market (including emulation and roms sites), that way everyone benefits and as users/consumers we get legally downloadable software content for our classic or retro platforms/formats
  2. just remember people, like mans best friend (the dog) An Atari is for life, not just for christmas

  3. Nice robot parrothead....can I have the bike
  4. Like it say's on the tin What nice prezzies will you be giving your Atari (or non Atari) this christmas and what will you be playing on your Atari (or non Atari) on the day itself No prezzies for my Atari but i will be playing defender and probably a few other games but mostly defender i might give the snes and gba emu's a whirl as well (perhaps some of the turrican games on the snes and castlevania on the gba)
  5. I pray for no more rain, since the local flooding in some parts of the UK has ruined christmas for those people

    1. high voltage

      high voltage

      u gotta chant Woodstock

  6. I wonder how much a rare USG disk version of BBSB would go for (since i don't think they got around to releasing it)
  7. the nice thing about both processors is that they initially kept mototrola and intel out of the home pc/computer market At least those that were interested in extending the lifespan of both processors like WDC and Zilog themseves saw the potential of upscale versions of said processors, like the z80000 and the 65816
  8. GET BETTER SOON...which hospital you going to (north west london boy)...hope you get home in time for christmas....less then a week away Noticed you've been helping out with yet another emulator, the SSE version of Steem engine I think the best shows (apart from the AU shows) were the mid 80's upto 1988, PCW shows (saw bob gleadow there on the Atari stand getting whacked on the head by Mallets mallet), i did go to ECTS twice but only in the mid 90's when they located it in Olympia, though I do remember it being held one year just up the road from me in Islington (since i lived in finsbury at the time) at the business design centre if it were an AU show i always used to bump into Colin and Graham from Gralin/Bapaug as well as the Yakmeister himself I didn't really enjoy the Atari 90's show (where i saw bob gleadow again), nowhere near as good as the AU shows it was replacing Did anyone go to the computer shopper show when it was located in wembley, I only went to that one, but only on the one occasion i think database pubs were running it,I saw brad koda there (best electronics) and gave me a free catalogue (shame he didn't sign it for me)
  9. As Opposed to the Angel that most londoners would know of Sack-cos The question is people, did you do more playing the demo systems or chinwagging with the shop personnel or more buying (i.e paying for the shops upkeep and the staff's wages)
  10. Sorry to dissapoint you Mr Mclaneinc but CEX are still there (though they did almost go under a little while back ...unsurprisingly) I didn't know mikes computer store was in TCR....never saw them (mind you i used to mostly go to sillica, laskys and with my older brother to shekana (though i wasn't mucho into 'japcrap')
  11. time for some philosophy....reality is better than the dream that the reality is loosely or largely based on

      LidLikesIntellivision

A dream is a dream of something. This something may be the true reality you're dreaming of.

This reality is a holographic program that has been hacked by intruders who exist outside of the program.

  12. Re: Pilot software, don't recall it being also called software city I only remember Pilot software because I always used to pop in there weekdays, if i were delivering up that way (when i was working in the west end) and also because I bought my first ST from there (an ex demo single sided stfm) Whilst they didn't have much s/w on show for the A8, they had shed loads of stuff for the MSX from what i remember (mostly cartridge software though) I also remember finding a cheat for the amiga version of gold runner (microdeal) while i was playing it (can't recall the key combo now) Weird thing is i do remember the famous End of Line (EOL) sales that lasky's used to do for unsold electronics (including computers etc), i recall picking up (back in 1987 this is) a 130xe for 25 and a speccy 128 for the same (i think)
  13. can't see the forums

      atari2600land

Then how did you post this status update?

  14. So i guess most of the 'disk swapping' (i.e swapping well dodgy atari or commodore computer software) was actually taking place in the actual shop.....well strange Mind you, i do remember a couple of times someone tried shoving their rob c menu disks into one of silica's 1050's, all i remember hearing was "no you don't" and the screen/monitor was turned off
  15. Linky only http://www.emucr.com/2012/12/nopsx-v10.html Looks interesting and if it's as good as the other emu's in the NO CASH series this should give epsxe and xebra/arbex a run for it's money (as well as PCSX Reloaded )
  16. heres the orig. link http://ataristeven.host898.net/Steem.htm no longer works is there a new site somewhere, as i am looking for the debug version of steem sse (since i am aware that it does exist, going by someone elses post here)
  17. Thats why i ain't really into all the modern gaming lark, it just isn't the same point being is that the current crop of 'retailers' (or games shops as we knew them) just want to sell product x and get you out of the place (as quickly as you came in) so as to moving onto the next customer (so called 'production line selling/retailing') That is the problem with the present crop of shops etc, they don't believe in retaining customers and they dont fully understand what they're selling Whereas back in the day, whether it was maplins, sillica, ladbroke computing, mays or whatever, you knew you were going be looked after since you were a regular and they the people dealing with you were already users of that hardware or whatever, which basically meant 'they spoke your language and you spoke their language' and that basically made the sale or transaction that much easier and quicker and thats why we kept going back to those places, simply because they understood the customer and what they were wanting...the chances of them acting like the current crop of shops....not in my lifetime, perhaps the current crop of maplins, sillica, ladbroke computing, mays lookie likees might want to take a leaf out of that point in time
  18. Only problem with sidcup was, they didn't really like you playing on the machines, the shop in TCR though didn't care much, noel and co were a good egg, i even challenged noel to a round of the very first game he programmed (sidewinder, disk version) I think sillica went downhill after they moved out of lion house and when they started stocking commodore 64's and japanese games systems
  19. Sillica, just as good as maplins, unfortunately back in the day maplins were only based in hammersmith and i weren't gonna trek down that way when sillica were only 1/2 hours walk away in TCR (which was to consumer electronics what hamleys was to toys and games) I also used to pop into pilot software (rathbone place, just by the w/e sorting office, now a CEX shop) and for those that remember, THE GAMES CENTRE. they had various branches in central london (i only remember the ones either end of oxford street) they were the ones with a green sign and black writing, also Virgin games centre which was previously called Palace games(run by the same company that owned palace software) in the middle of the eastern end of oxford street now called game, and it seems someone forgot to mention Dillons and Claude Gill bookshops, they had a fairly big computer games department (i think they also sold hardware as well) Damn, i almost forgot...Laskey's in TCR and also near kensington high street and also Shekana (TCR) they did some Atari, lots of commodore but mostly import japanese and asian games systems like sega nintendo, nec before the official pal versions even existed
  20. looks like west ham seems to have won the rights to be the new tennants of the olympic stadium in stratford http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/olympic-games-west-ham-set-move-olympic-stadium-092416695.html

  21. i have never met joby smart, joe becoul, joe knowsall, joby nastae, joby small and lastly joby knowsy

  22. Or even better TMR... Limit each post on AA to 140 odd characters (i.e twatter like) and make everyone do texting Kind of makes the whole point of 'forums' pointless then
  23. Just for you GUI lovers http://www.emucr.com/2012/11/messui-v0147u3.html btw the official mess has been non gui FOR OVER A YEAR
  24. Not for me, since for something that is initially 'free' i ain't giving over credit card details thanks (since from what i am told, that is a prerequisite for signing up to said service)
  25. Linky only http://uk.news.yahoo.com/how-atari-s-pong-started-the-video-game-revolution-40-years-ago-165259921.html Ah, the 40 year old dinosaur rears it's head again How many times has that game been emulated, cloned, ripped off or copied....even if Atari did pirate the game from something magnavox built into it's tv game system Interesting that the game was originally a demo that wasn't really intended for release Anyone know what happened to the driving game (and pinball game) that NB was supposed to be designing for bally, or could it be that NB couldn't bother himself to finishing it
