atari800 win + v 4b7 is here
carmel_andrews replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
didn't they do the black box in Poland... I'm sure that CSS must of had an EU/European distributor, i recall that 'frankenstein' Aka Freddy Offenga also had a black box, he showed/displayed it at one of the last AMS shows in stafford (UK) The Os controller card was a combo hardware/software upgrade originally inported into the UK by computerhouse, a secondary supplier of this u/g was stortsoft of birmingham (i think it might have been originally an American product), it basically allowed you to change certain elements of the o/s default settings, also converted JW menu's and multiboot to o/s resident menu, additionally it allowed you to upgrade 48k and under cassettes to boot disk and convert these boot disks to a 2 game boot menu (With US sector skew support for approp. modd'd drives) printer SHQ support and other bits and pieces, too numerous to name -

Super Jaskier... some questions In your atari800 win+ (final) are you going to have a secondary rom option for alternative drive roms (like happy, lazer etc etc) Also will it be possible to get the black box roms and also o/s controller card to work with your emu (they're featured on the atari.art.pl (not bad ftp w/s) -

Should'nt the A8 and 5200 cart. versions of BBSB be priced about the same, i say this because BBSB only came out in cart. form in US markets, everywhere else was tape or disk, granted that the 5200 version might be slightly more rarer

Why the hate for the Tramiels?
carmel_andrews replied to ninjarabbit's topic in Classic Console Discussion
As i once saw printed somewhere, a few years after tramiel got his dirty mits on Atari... he wasn't interested in Atari period (to use an americanism, as a brit) Atari was simply a 'convenient ' tools tramiel used to wipe or rub CBM's and gould's nose in it, the wrong way. Fact... warner didn't receive a 'penny' from tramiel, it was more a case of transferrance of Assets and shares Fact... Over 3/4's of all Atari's R&D efforts were closed down of sold off under tramiel... I don't even want to think about the AMIGA Fact...Continuing from the above entry, also that tramiel wasn't interested in the consoles, and the fact that most of Atari's development was in R&D which most of it was either closed down or sold off, which resulted in little or no product development, meant Atari went from an extremely product rich company to a 'product-less 'company Fact... Warners had better offers for Atari, from Phillips and dare i say it CBM themselves Ironic then that Philips (who also own magnavox, the original licensees of Ralph Baers 'Video Tennis' oddysey tv game system) is also a major investor/shareholder of Infogrammes (before they became/bought Atari) i think it was arround about the time that infogrammmes bought out Ocean software of Manchester (UK)... the founder of which now runs Atari's UK operations (in Hammersmith) Another Ironic turn of Events... Just before Tramiel reverse mergered with JTS, one of the companies in the running for snapping up Atari's Assets were none other then...Activision And just let everyone know, Activision and Imagic, whilst they were the first 'recognised' names to offically market/publish vcs compatible games in the US, they were not the first to get vcs compatible game onto dealers shelf space... i understand that, that credit goes to texas based new software company called 'games by appolo, a subsidiary of NCC/New career consultants -
looking for a good cart copy program
carmel_andrews replied to walter_J64bit's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
There are various 'software only' solutions like the ones from gardiner computing's 'piracy disks', the various pd offerings, scanalyser, etc etc however, these all fail at the cartridge mem. protection end of things there are two solutions, if you have a real atari and know a bit of how to hack cart data and loader and the protection sys. to disk and also a bit of 6502 coding knowledge might help here, then get your hands on omnimon or Ultimon or qmeg (built in m/c monitor/debuggers and meomory editors, with limited disk reading/writing ability) The other possibility is the infamous 'Pill' and impersonator, both programs claim to reverse enginner cartridge data to other writable media... however these programmes are limited to certain types of 16k carts (and won't do all of them) again something tro do with the cartridge mem. protection end of things and overwriting different areas of memory (which is why you'll never be able to hack the cart version of 'thunderfox' to disk as the program itself is over 16k long, uses the xegs cart mem. banking technology in addition to the fact that it also uses the normal xl/xe bank switching technique as well, and is coded slightly differently -
the 'stereo' pokey chip that Atari were working on, does that and the the original 'gumby' pokey u/g have any connection, or did CS work for Atari And with regards to Siera, gaza and Paula, it proves once and for all that Atari were at a very advanced stage in developing their version of the AMIGA

same software, just a different distributor

I have tried the C:Sim porg. that pps mentioned, years ago, whilst it will let you do multi load tapes, it wont let you do non standard (EA,English or novagen etc) type loaders i am guessing that transdisk and howfen dos will work in the US
-
What you need is either transdisk (digicomm/page 6) which also handles non standard loaders and lastly howfendos tape to boot disk utility (howfensoft), only handles standard tape loaders
-
do you have a zipped version of the depackable .exe of this emu with this patch incorporated
-
No, No, No...you got it the wrong way round...ahhh never mind, lets hack out another blinding A8 demo
-
Yes... But you do 'Code' though, like TMR does, so, you think 'LOGICALLY', because to be able to code a program or demo in 6502 or whatever requires some element of logical thinking And anyway, as you work the IT industry, that in itself requires some element of logical thinking, be it hardware problems, software problems, networking/interfacing problems etc, etc You should never sell yourself short, heaven... strange that i say that to someone that classes themselves as 'sales/marketing professional'

_________________________________________________________________ Bristol... Ouch, or are you saying that bristol is the UK capital for the UK retro computer and gaming scene I would have understood it if you'd said london or birmingham/manchester I wonder how many people your'e gonna get coming to bristol for retro gaming stuff... i'm willing to be proved wrong

This C=1, is this not the same thing as the Amiga One (made by a 3rd party, not amiga themselves)

I also haven't experienced drag&drop problems nor any problems with files in the root directory. However, the problem with console keys is there for sure. The easiest way to notice it is that they generate clicks - they shouldn't. 906653 I do hear the 'click' but nothing is printed on screen, what mark/wrathchild i guess is saying is that when the console keys pressed generates a 'click' something is printed on screen, which doesn't happen in my case Perhaps this is a job for 'super jaskier'

Programmers like TMR/Heaven etc are few and far betwwen (a'la GOLDDUST), however because programmers think LOGICALLY (like the computers they aparently program) therefore ANALOGIES should be second nature to them, as analogies are extentions to 'LOGICAL' thinking and therefore compliment 'logical' thinking I guess what i'm saying is, is that TMR was 'cheating' a bit What i'd love to see is a decent programmer (a'la peep's like TMR/Heaven etc) that understands 'emulation' and comprehends the coding of such things to extend the capabilities of the current flavours of emulators and therefore creating new emulation and hardware platforms

i've played with the this version of the emu and with programs that require console key and keyboard input and i dont seem to get the same prob's that mark/wrathchild had with the same version of the emu (drag and drop also seem to work) here is my setup AMD Xp2200+ Abit/ATi Radeon 92xx AGP 1/2 gig ddr (266) Epox mobo w/built in gfx and sound standard fax modem 2x 120gig h/d's Win xp pro/corp w/built in SP2 I still think that mark/wrathchild has a virus that is affecting this emu. or that he's got a dodgy version of win xp/2k or that he's got a sticky or dodgy keyboard

There's not? Hmmmmm.... thats not what I heard Curt 904884 Who's JERI... have i heard of her

Don't you mean the Konix Multi-System, I didn't think they helped the Sam, but one of them was involved in the design of the ZX Spectrum for Sinclair. Jeff Minter of course was going to release games for the Konix system too. Cheers, JustClaws. 903772 I think they did as they designed the graphics and blitter chip

Glowing review from Consummer Reports!
carmel_andrews replied to FireTiger's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
shame that in the same year, atari was going to be snapped up by someone that wasn't going to do anything positive with atari in the slightest and in the years since, let alone have even the remotest interest in atari, Atari was simply a convenient commercial vehicle for tramiel to use to rub irving gould and CBM's nose in it Who's to say that if Atari had remained under warners that Warners last MD/CEO James Morgan could've turned around atari's fortunes, like he was begining to (and remember we still had the amiga) and that Atari would still be with us today and more importantly in the form that we once knew it as, and not peddling what can only be described as 'commercial prostitution' by allowing Atari's name to be associated with products available for non atari platforms and formats And for the benefit to AMERICAN CONSUMERS and those members of AA that class themsleves as AMERICANS that ATARI would still be a Wholy owned Independent American company, and not as it is now, partly owned by the FRENCH with the AMERICAN part being inactive as a company... or is it true from what i understand that AMERICANS don't care about supporting their own kind -
VC6 = The C++ compiler from Visual Studio 6 The 'Project' files distributed with the A800WinPlus sources are only for use with the Visual Studio 7 (.NET) "Integrated Development Environment" (IDE). These have extensions such as '.vcproj' and '.sln'. The equivalents in VS6 are '.dsw' (workspace) and '.dsp' files. I used a utility called 'PrjConverter' to turn the VS7 project files into VS6 compatible files and then have to correct the small number of mistakes introduced by the conversion process by hand. The reason being I haven't gotten around to switching over to .NET at home or at work, even though I have been trained on it. My 2 pennies worth - As less than half of one percent of the source is actually taking advantage of anything VS7 offers over VS6 I think the option to build the sources using that IDE should still be offered. Build platform specific enhancements can be coded in using #ifdef's where necessary. However, as Jaskier is the sole maintainer of the 'Plus' flavour - rather than it being just another thread of the A800Win project - he has chosen to just use VS7 and that's fine - no need for him to spend time checking VS6 as well. At the end of the day most people are just downloading the binaries and don't care less how it was built. I just like to have my own buildable version to 'tinker' with. Regards, Mark 903808 Sorry mark/wrathchild...but, way, way over my head... how about that, again, but this time in English

Artifacting only realy comes into play on NTSC systems, on PAL systems it just shows up as varying shades of white or grey (on Graphics mode , if you've ever played those PCS inspired pinball games on a UK/EU a8 sys or emu you'll see what i mean
