  1. small question is, what happened to the other content (other then the homesoft packs) that the site had for download Namely the demo's and non menu based games Anyone know where these (not the homesoft pack) are now archived (or which site has or had that content for download)
  2. As well as anyone else here thats been involved in the mainstream games industry either way back way or in recent times Without further ado here goes with the questions If you had the knowledge/skills and tools they have now but back when you first entered the industry, Do you think your games or creations would have been better or sold more Of the modern games or game types/genre's, which ones would you have liked to have worked on, on your preferred system you developed content (games or non games software) for What is your opinion of preserving the history of electronic enterainment (in software and hardware) or 'digital heritage' to using the preferred term (i.e emulation and non emulation based) Do you think that the present crop of developers/publishers and product makers are doing enough to preserve our 'digital heritage' (i.e emulation and non emulation based) Do you think that the present games industry offers better QUALITY product then the content you or the compa nies you were working with or their competitors were offering back in the day Do you think the industry has made any inroads in tackling piracy or whether it will make any inroads in tackling said issue If your preferred system you were developing content (games or non games) on was still available and supported now, would you consider supporting that system again Do you think the present crop of developers/publishers and product makers are shooting themseves in the foot by ignoring the classic/retro market and also the emulation market and the possibilities and opportunities those markets offer If you were given your time again (or had a time machine) which of your nearest competitors or which other system would you have liked to have worked for or develop content on If you are still involved in the games business, what do you think of its preference to C development tools compared to old school Assembler tools you were using when you started in the business (unless ofcourse you did things in one of the variants of BASIC) If the current homebrew scene for classic/retro platforms used an APX like distribution model for it's content (on or offline), do you think that more mainstream developers/publishers or product makers (software or hardware) would enter the retro/classic market I think thats enough to be getting on with
  3. Is Allein a german word or did you mean 'Alien'
  4. Tosec is about as full or comprehensive as your'e going to get (compared to any other well known collection, like goodsets, no intro or similar)
  5. We just had someone famous in the chat area, Mr Eastern Front Himself (aka Chris Crawford)...He came and he went

  6. No longer works with updated forums Though i notice an extra option is added at the top of ea. page of that thread, namely 'reply to this topic' Perhaps Mr AA forgot to delete the bottom one, since i guess the code is still in place

Oh, it is. I was assuming "dead" meant "free of controversy", since I haven't noticed a slowdown in the number of posts lately.

Ah, true, true. The forum seems to be about normal to me (in terms of activity), minus the controversy. :)

  8. Bombing your own hanger, rather reminds me of the group behind the music for Xenon 2 megablast.....Bomb the base
  9. GOing by the pic in post one, it looks a bit more like one of them Level 9 adventures (i.e. text with a static picture), so not strictly a 'text adventure' like say v. early scott adams or infocom
  10. just managed to nab another 2tb hard disk for under 60 squid, now i wait a couple or 3 hours for everything to copy over from my 1/2 tb drive to the new HD and use the 1/2tb drive for back up only

    1. Certifiable

It is to me. My 2Tb drive, which was full of TOSEC Porn, has had to go back to Hitachi. It's poorly :(

  11. Nice idea there JP, only thing is....most of the people that would probably use Kickstarter or croiwd funding weren't probably around when AR smelt minty fresh and since these people are too sodding lazy to use internet reseach properly....there's preobably about one in millions of chances that someone from kickstarter/crowd funding would have actually know or have heard of Philip Price (or his partner in crime) and that one person is either an AA user or dead into classic/retro gaming I am sure that everyone here would financially support Phil and Gary's attempt at rebooting this icon of the classic/retro era of gaming
  12. Crumbs, A speccy version of AR....Thats a bit like having a zx81 version of SR
  13. think they made a mistake with that issue AMS was never held in blackpool, only stafford and London (the once)
  14. Well doesn't seem to work at this end (since the name defo shows up which it shoud'nt)...perhaps a re-install of the OS might fix things
  15. The 'sign in as anonymous' is either bugged or doesn't work Tried logging on as anonymous in both FF (latest version) and IE (version eight) in XP and the name still shows up in the list of active users Yet i thought the whole idea of 'sign in as anonymous' was that the name doesn''t show up in the list of active users Any chance of that being fixed
  16. A little word of warning, Dont use Winrar, Winzip or Power Archiver to unzip these tosec sets (esp. if the tosec sets have files that have a character/filename lenght of 250 chars or more) As these archivers/dearchivers have built in filename lenght restrictions (namely no more then 250/260 characters long) The only deaerchiver/archiver that doesn't have that restriction is 7zip
  17. To save on disk space, if you downloaded all the ST games (ST/STX) as compressed (i.e zip) leave then packed/compressed since both versions of steem (i.e. original/debug and the steven segal version) support the zip format for both ST and STX formats Thats the way i do it anyway, you do save a lot of space
  18. Just came across this site recently, having sorted out the internet connection http://archive.org/ Type the following into the search service for the tosec Atari 8bit (first linky is the tosec) Type in Atari Magazine into their search service for a list of downloadable Atari mags (i.e. antic, analog, page 6, AU (database), compute and softside) type collection:ataribooks into the search service for a list of downloadable atari books It also supports non A8 and non Atari as well (as i also got the tosec mame set incl. extras, amiga/ST, sega MD and c64) Enjoy retro fans, enjoy
  19. When is handy going to get an update, or is it not being maintained anymore Additionally we need MORE emulation goodness on the pc, all we have is MESS, handy and the other multi emu, mednafen
  20. I didn't know sprite's/PMGs etc wore clothes
  21. Shame that someone even tried copying his work.....how sad, perhaps the person doing the copying can explain to the community why the original author isn't doing the game anymore (or perhaps he was too lazy to try coming up with an original game himself....the person copying the game code that is)
  22. Me thinks that IBM got lucky with the PC, remembering that they were even considering bying into the Atari tech and I heard even Apple tech There again, Didn't Job's and Co also approach Commodore as well, only thing i'm not sure about with that story was the claim that tramiel 'gave them the 6502' (which was wrong because i am guessing synertek 6502's were already already been used by wozniak) Interesting that so many things spun out from Atari like Amiga, Apple (since Jobs worked for Atari and Wozniak designed one of the games) and probably the PC, since IBM were looking to buy into that tech before they thought better of it Shame that Atari didn't capitalise on all that talent they had, thyeir again if it was true what JM said in an article i linked to in the classic computer section, if you run a tech company like an accountant it deserves to be screwed up The difference between commodore and Atari was that commodore did try upscaling their tech, i..e pet to vic20 (even though the vic 20 hardware was originally supposed to be used in a colour pet system) and then vic 20 to c64, whereas Atari didn't understand the concept of trying to upscale it's hardware (I am probably thinking that even the project that eventually became the Atari 800 and 400 was lucky to have even gotten of the ground, considering that warner's had just invested over 100 million in the vcs and Decuir/Miner and Co were asking them to invest in a better version of the vcs, which became the 400/800) The interesting thing about the PC though we have to remember that the 8bit attempt at a PC like architecture (a tie up between the Asian software company ASCII and Microsoft) was only mildly successful in some parts of europe and asia (i ofcourse refer to the MSX)
