  1. There is the other argument though (or case to put), after all people still buy and read physical books and newspapers and whilst downloadable or electronic books/news is taking a big chunk out of the book/news market it certainly won't relegate physical newspapers/books to the dustbin of history The same can also be said of physical game media compared to the downloadable game media, it's exactly the same scenario are the above, downloadable content will never fully replace the physical version
  2. It's the same in the music biz, I.E you pay just slightly more for a physical cd/dvd with music then you would do with a digi downloaded track There again i guess the cost of making a physical medium and paying people to distribute (that includes shops/stores) to the end user can't work out much more then operating a website and selling the cack online After all, to sell online you have to have A SITE (and unless you want to design it yourself you'll have to pay someone to design it as well as maintain and update the site/info), you have to pay to have the site hosted, pay regular renewal fees for the domain name (i.e site addy) and ofcourse online advertising/marketing isn't free (since people will need to know what your site does or is) and ofcourse pay a small team of people to administer sales and deal with enquiries from the site This is where we are at, at the moment, buying something online ISN'T that much cheaper then buying it via traditional means
  3. Best Amusement arcade....the one on the corner of wardour street (former home of warner bros UK) and brewer/old compton street....it used to be the cheapest arcade in town (haven't been there though since i stopped working in the west end) they were charging only 10/20p a game where everyone else was charging 50p-£1 a game (this applied to both old games as well as new releases as well as pinball games and one armed bandits) Dunno if it's still operating/open
  4. Sounds like the reviewer needs to get a working pair of controllers, unless he was playing it on an emulator using a pc gamepad And just to remind you, playing a game with a gamepad doesn't give you the same tactile feedback as you get if you were playing the same game with pucka (i.e real) atari joysticks
  5. the built in cheat finder in atari emu's are a little limited (i think you can only have one cheat per game) Why don't you use a FREE external memory finding utility like Artmoney or cheat engine, much easier and you can find multiple cheats for the same game
  6. For those that mentioned the 'built/pack in' game as the first game they got with their shiny new system, the question remains did you play the pack/built in game more then the games you bought seperate to the system purchase (and subsequent game purchases) I think i must have skipped the whole built/pack in game thing as I didn't use the atari cassettes they used to bundle with the atari xl and cassette deck pack (i guess i must of only used them once or twice just to see if they worked) The only packin/built in game i played to any extent was 'Alex Kidd' (the one that was built into the smaller SMS)....nice little game, shame the system conked out on me after a few weeks (couldn't be bothered to exercising my consumer rights and putting in for a free repair, since it was less then a month old) First games that i actually paid for were 'Arcade classics' and 'Action biker' for the A8, Sonic R for the Saturn, I think it was Bubble Bobble for the Orig. Playstation, Sonic Adventure for the DC and lastly Turrican and some Pool game from team 17 for the Amoeba (can't remember my first game i bought for the ST)
  7. You can have my B.E Catalogue if your prepared to pay postage from UK (London), only thing is though, like i said I think i might still have it (i aint sure though) and if i recall correctly it was a little 'dog eared' on one of the 2 corners My one had some nice pics of Atari computers like the 1450 xld and also the 5200 (in fact that was the first time i ever saw a picture of what a 5200 actually looked like)
  8. thats wierd, I was just thinking about the 'raspi', I seem to remember that Mapplins, the well known electronics retailer are selling them (didn't see what was on the price sticker), their tottenham court road branch had them in stock Perhaps in a couple/few months I might buy it and try out the mod in the video link (at least that way i'll have a 2600 alike device without buying a flashback or similar)
  9. Here;s a Q. though, will the OUYA survive with all these other Android compatible games systems looking to make it in the marketplace (not forgeting the zillions of android moby's and tabs also used for gaming) It's going to come done to long term pricing and also 3rd party software/dev support (question is, what sort of dev./software support are they getting)
  10. Try 50p, Forgot what it was called though, it was a PC game i got in CEX in London (i think they might have a few stores in Mancs Ross)
  11. Well, at least your S/H commodore 64 works....main thing (even if your programming/typing is a little rusty) S/H (Second Hand, or 'used' to most of you people)
  12. Well, I was lucky enough to meet with Mr Koda in Wembley (nr the famous football ground) he was an exhibitor at the computer shopper show at the nearby conference centre...but this was back in the v. early 90's and he gave me a free yellow/white B.E catalogue (I think i might still have it somewhere)
  13. I dunno why there are so few joypads/gamepads for the PC, I think theres about 2 companies that still make them namely logitech/logic3 and Saitek (apart from the imported chinese or Asian PC usb gamepads that are a dime a dozen, I used to have a couple of decent ones from a company called 'topway' i got them at seperate times from them el cheapo PC computer fairs/shows) My logictech dual action i got second hand from CEX, the Saitek i have i think it's on it's last legs, i got it from a well known PC specialist (Yoyotech), anyone thats into pc modding and overclocking will and should know who yoyotech is, unfortunately yoyotech seems to have closed down it's retail shop in TCR (I think they're trying to flog it off as 'concession space', as I recall seeing a sign on their shop window saying as such)
  14. One idea could be some sort of 'stella adapter' type thing for the A8 that modifies reading the j/s and ports so that you can play games using multi button joysticks or A8 compatible joypads (like the sega one and the ones you could buy for the amoeba) The idea being is that you have two programs running inside the stella adapter, the first program deals with reading the j/s and ports the second program deals with modifying running programs so you can use 2 buttons, one idea is that the program could be written that programs the additional button (or buttons) appropriate to the game your playing For example in Defender (the Arcade port) you could program the second button to act as the smartbomb (space bar) or hyperspace (any other key) or you could add a built in 'hardware pause' feature, just like you have in altirra and a800winplus...programmed into the second button
  15. Hello AtariAge, it's a-me.... MARIO

  16. By 'multi button' i mean joyticks that had more then one fire button, classic example being the competition pro (best of the lot in my opinion) The only one i recall atari doing is the proline (though apparently the 7800 'euro pad' also had more then one fire button but you couldn't buy is seperately from the 7800 (like you could the proline) it's a shame that software houses didn't do any (or many) games that supported multiple fire buttons, if there was support i think it would have given serious competition to the games systems (i.e sega and nintendo)
  17. Wasn't their a similar game to shamus done by Atari in Germany called Nadral, it had a spot of software based speech syntheseis which played each time you lost a life (it was in german so i dunno the translation)
  18. Didn't like black patch or chipmunk much, I sort of preferred the hardware variants (i.e lazer, happy or SA/SA2) I do seem to remember that CSS (the new york atari supporter, not the hacking clan) did some sort of media copy program called 'The Impossible' which 'allegedy' allowed you to copy certain types of copy protected disks (as well as cassette/tapes ofcourse), apparently at the time it was the only software based solution that could do this without the need of any disk or tape drive mods
  19. Well done Murray for winning winbledon, hopefully we won't have to wait another 77 years for another brit to win

What is this "whembulldon" you speak of? Is it another fancy European game where you sweep toilet sanitizer discs around?

I wonder how valid that source really is.

  21. Can't stand xpadder, too many options and too many options (or too much configuration) equals TOO COMPLEX/COMPLICATED Joy2key is much simpler, you just create a new config file, tell the program what keys do what on the joypad and it's really that simple...Perhaps the people at Xpadder might want to take a leaf out of Joy2Key's book on simplified UI's and fewer options
  22. was it ever established what sex Sonic (as in the hedgehog) was

Was there ever any confusion over Sonic's gender? I've never been bored enough to wonder about it.

  23. Just to point out, I've always had a joypad/gamepad....going back to my first peecee in 1999 (a super socket 7 amd k6-200 running win 95/upgraded to win 98 a few months later) I've gone through a fair few of them, the current one being a logitech dual analogue/analog I do accept that for 'some games', like certain FPS's and space combat/space similator games, a keyboard/mice combo is only slightly better
  24. Like it says on the tin (or the thread title) Why are PC games still mostly keyboard/mouse....talk about a throwback to the speccy style of gaming (remember playing with 'cursor keys') Not that there's anything wrong with playing with the keyboard, but a gamepad is more responsive and the problem with the keyboard approach is, you can only input one command/keystroke at a time (so you can't do ''diagonal movement's'' like upper left or right etc) Afrter all, all the games programmed for games machines like xbox, ps3, wii etc are gamepad/joypad friendly, why can't they do the same for pc users...or are games publishers/developers really that lazy and are still of the opinion that PC gaming is still in the speccy era for game control modes
  25. Didn't d-bug and automation merge or something, or did you just shorten things to just d-bug
