Alert me when the WOPR is for sale...

I'm glad to see it's still in good shape, and I hope it goes to a caring collector. As for me, it's tempting, but I'd rather have the computer from Weird Science.

  2. They say the 'Cost of Living' is relative, ....well when Atari's first started shipping computers they cost about 8-900USD, yet they got cheaper as you got further into their lifespan, strange thing is that you can now pick up a prebuilt PC (better specced) cheaper then Atari were selling their first computers for

I am just wondering how many cheaper PCs will last as long as those first Atari computers?

  3. Looks like the gooners have finally landed a decent player, Higuain has all but signed a deal to join and they've expressed 'interest' in rooney (don't see it though, he'll probably bugger off to spain or somewhere)

  4. Free games Seeming as though modern gaming is getting more and more expensive with publishers/developers thinking of more ways to give us LESS game for MORE MONEY Even worse for PC users, as games get more and more technical, you need a better video card/gfx card just so you can play that game in fact it’s getting soooo bad you might as well get a new video/gfx card with each new release (like they think that updating a gfx/video card is free) If that isn’t bad enough, if you’re buying games from a shop. How do you know you are buying the FULL GAME? And not forced into downloading additional data(sets) for which you will have to pay for, just so you have the full game With that in mind and with the current economic climate not being too friendly towards buying ‘luxuries’ like new (or even used/second hand) games, I thought it would be a good idea to use our collective nouse and bring together a web ‘repository’ of FREE (online or offline) single/solitaire or multiplayer games that you can download and play till the cows come home (or until you get pig sick of that game)...within the confines of AtariAge Just to start things off, hers is a few ‘starters for 10’ http://www.gamershell.com/search/?q=free+full+game http://www.hotukdeals.com/freebies/full-commercial-single-player-pc-games-free-legal-downloads-1222975 http://www.playallfreeonlinegames.com/games/top-100-single-player-pc-games/ http://www.ausgamers.com/files/latest/free?start=300&type=free http://www.acid-play.com Please note, when I said a repository of ‘FREE GAMES’, I am not talking about illegally copied/pirated ISO’s that you can nab from the filesharing places, I mean FREE as in PD/User submitted, fan based/homebrew (call it what you will), like the linked content above and not illegally copied/pirated ISO’s Whilst I accept that most of the sites will be ‘PC dominated’, I am sure there are repositories of ‘free games’ content for Macintosh, Linux and also the various and all gaming systems, mobiles/tabs and smartphones If you are going to link to single games/the actual game site), best to indicate if you need to be online to play/load the game (as is the case with certain FPS's/TPS's and RPGs and others and most if not all MMO's) Also please indicate whether it is an actual game site or just a link to many games (on the same site) Lastly please also indicate whether it is the FULL game that is available or just a reduced content/cut down version Anyone with any more linkies

  6. This is what happensd to 'retired' former heavyweight boxers http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/the-pugilist/riddick-bowe-45-battered-kickboxing-debut-213906664.html he looks like a ton of lard (lard as in the fat you use to cook with)

Is there another type of lard?

  7. Used games does not does not equal piracy, if that was so we wouldn't have this behemoth of an industry since piracy has been with us since Atari Pong and used/second hand games have been with us since the days of back bedroom publishers (hackers) supporting the likes of commodore/atari/apple etc etc who have now morphed into 'mini microsofts' (namely the present industry) Piracy and used games won't be the death of the industry, the industry will kill itself through it's greed, incompetence and unwillingness to give the customer/gamer what they really want What we need is a better model for distributing and circulating independent, good quality games The problem with the industry at the moment is that they are too sold on online gaming, the problem with that is not everyone is into online gaming and also it means you are not getting the full game you thought you bought in the first place To put that into context could you imagine the ruckus caused if Atari hadn't supplied the full ET/Pacman game for the 2600 and that you had to go out buy a modem and get/buy a subscription to compuserve/aol etc just to download additional content so that you have the full game (effectively adding more cost to the final purchase cost of the game) Since it isn't free to download the additional content that dev./publishers want you to download for this or that game Next time i go into a games shop and see x or y game for a pc for 30/40 gbp, i am going to ask, is this the FULL game or am i forced to having to download additional content so i can have the full game i thought i originally purchased Perhaps publishers/developers of retail product better start CORRECTLY labelling there retail product and stating whether this game is the full game or that you have to download additional content for (or to get) the full game That is the problem, not piracy and not used games
  8. Steam stinks....Is that a new game by Nolan Bushnell (as a follow up to PONG) if you don't want the hassle of having the game "sycnc'ng" for game updates, just avoid any games from the last 2 years or so (or just avoid any game that requires a 'net connection' as part of the gameplay/setup gig) Yes, I know it means i can't play some of the 'well decent' free single player FPS's (like the ones formerly from midway)
  9. Hows about this....Gamestop buys Atari..... Rejigs old Atari hardware line, they've obviously got the spare cash
  10. As opposed to 'yukky' fullscreen The solution, a pretty simple one, create a program that intercepts the game's DirX/D3D routines (Dirx/D3d being Directx/Direct3d) and uses it's own 'hook' dll file to intercept the normal game gfx (which allows you to play most current or present/past PC games in windowed mode Rather then try writing the program yourself, some already exist D3Dwindower http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/603613-d3dwindower/ DxWnd http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/files/?source=navbar 3D Analyse® http://games.softpedia.com/get/Tools/3D-Analyze.shtml There are probably others that exist but these seem to be the only ones regularly used by people In regards to D3Dwindower, make sure you download the english version, since the original is in Japanese or some asian language) However, the only one of the 3 that is 'regularly maintained' or updated seems to be DXwnd, the other two haven't been updated in a while The only program that DXwnd has issues with running in windowed mode (from the few I threw at it) is lego Star Wars 3, it keeps throwing up a 'securerom error message', i did try this game using D3Dwindower but it keeps crashing during the star wars 'text scroller', the only program that will run this game in windowed mode is 3d Analyse®, however i've forgotten the settings to getting it working in windowed mode In regards to Dxwnd and Tomb Raider 2/3, if you are using an nvidia card/onboard gfx, make sure you use the games 'setup' to switch the gfx emulation/mode to software (or you will get terrible gfx corruption and it will make the game basically unplayable)...unfortunately i've given up trying to find out if there's a fix for nvidia cards and these 2 TR games
  11. Well, If they find any complete computer systems (like a 1450 or a complete collete Mobo), i've got first dibs
  12. Did you get the kiosk from a atari shop or dealer Gatzee (as i am guessing that that's where the majority of them ended up), don't seem to remember Sillica shop having one though (though i do remember their 2600 kiosk, they had 2)
  13. Just recently nabbed a 3rd party GeForce GT 610 for a good price (brand noo, i.e not used/second hand) now i can play doom 3 bfg edition (and it looks well good), just OOI, what is the equivalent ATI-AMD card/chipset to the GeForce GT 610

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

Actually it looks like the ati 5450 is the closest in terms of price and performance. Since then ATI has moved their low-end on to the cpu itself and are doing a lot better with it.

  14. Does this upgrade have an onboard OS or comes supplied with one (on disk/CD) If not will it work with turbo o/s (the one that came supplied with turbo 8/16, the original '816' upgrade by dataque) or that Polish OS...forgot what it was called (dunno of any other 3rd party 816 based o/s's out there, i am sure there are some)
  15. Is this a 'one off' or is he doing custom compilations (since you can fit quite a few games etc on one of them multicarts)
  16. Is there any reason why EMUCR are still packaging the QT DLL files with it's iteration of the 'Virtual Jaguar' emulator, especially when the official releases doesn't need them

  17. So it was you that killed Blackbeard then....
  18. Might be an artifacting issue as I think the lynx does use artifacts (if your familar with hi-rez gfx modes on the A8 you'll know what artifacting is), which is prob. why blue shows up as black PS...your'e supporting the wrong end of North London (or should that be the wrong end of Seven Sisters Road)
  19. Shame it wasn't shrinkwrapped (oh the smell of a shrinkwrapped atari cookie)
  20. Any chance you could port/conv. that over to the A8 Lastly any reason why ocean only released the original as a budget game for the A8
  21. Y2K...I remember that, Biggest rip off, Con Job in IT history...and just to remind people what happened in the years after Y2K, IT people kept crying buckets because they were losing their jobs (something to do which the massive OVERSPEND on IT prior to 2000 and ofcourse the internet investors losing their shirts, serves them right)
  22. Also, Sony seems to have backtracked on the whole 'used games' thing (if you look at the link at the end of the article i linked to) and apparently the patent they acquired relating to using used games on their hardware HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UPCOMING PS4
  23. I think this conclusively answers the question http://uk.games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/xbox-one-play-used-games-questions-linger-213743272.html You will be able to play used games but if your on Xbox live you will have to pay again to use the used (second hand) game on the service In other words, unless i am missunderstanding the article in the link, you have to 'buy' the game again (so effectively you've bought the same 'used' game twice)
