Actually, it's handy to know I am not alone!

Still trying to run LAPD, I didn't realise it still existed, kudos to the guy, but a little bit of an odd business decision. Suzy B and Crawly Crypt I believe are avalilable at Info-coach, but you can't download at folder level. I don't have a CD-ROM anymore, I tried to stick the CDs in my PC laptop, didn't seem to want to read them, although my previous laptop was fine. I have been meaning to Google ISO standards and why I cannot read my Atari CD-ROMs on my laptop, I see no reason, only that my laptop is running bloody Vista and is kicking on a little

Further good news, my favourite PD Libraries from back in the day, followed by perhaps LAPD, them Merlin

Exxos, that's awesome, good ol' Floppyshop! Now I appreciate why you needed that logo! Thanks

Apps that defined your personal ST/STe/TT/Falcon use
Atari74user replied to Fletch's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Better late than never, maybe? In order of appearance and changing use of Ataris through the years, if I can recall correctly, these defined my Ataris use: The reason I was happily gifted my Atari ST as a Christmas present, as a gaming machine: Xenon Speedball Xenon II Kult Blood Money Speedball 2 Turrican Turrican II Sensible Soccer As a music machine: Quartet TCB Tracker Stereo Master Breakthru Replay 16 Cubase As a word processer / DTP 'pro' use...: ICD Pro Utilities Calamus Atari Works Papyrus NVDI ST Hardware (worth a mention, because it changed the way I used my Atari): ICD Link II For the Falcon as a music machine: Cubase Audio with FDI Clarity 16 -
BRAND NEW ANTI DUST COVER for ATARI XE
Atari74user replied to as...'s topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Late to this post, I have a couple of old dust covers for the ST, but these are looking good! I have been recently going dust cover mad for various gear. I thought of this idea for old computers in light of those Decksaver guys, happy you are making this reality! Looking forward to the ST covers, one question, I assume ports will be left fee and accessible for the ST/Falcon covers to save keep re-connecting peripherals? -
need to know ALL programs that used black dongles?
Atari74user replied to MR*Atari*'s topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
To add to this, Zero-X does use a black dongle but is not Steinberg so you can count this out too. -
Sorry Jagwiz, looks like I've sniped you as well. As for Jonathan, I'm glad the initial reaction towards him has been resolved. Jaguar owners are just so damn caring Really says a lot though. I've been following Jonathans eBay extravaganza with interest as soon as he hit with the Jaguar gear. Its amazing how much people will pay for Rotary Controllers, well painted and spruced up Jags etc... However the demand was/is there. Trust worthy and decent guy too. As most of you guys here seem to be. Uh oh, I think this caring business is getting to me. Th JA rotary is nice, to quote a TV ad, 'Do, do, do, do dooo, I'm loving it'. Keep up the good work one and all!

Ooooh good question! I'd love to see some old 16-bit classics updated and improved even further, if thats possible given how playable these games were, and still are: Xenon 2 R-Type Rainbow Island St. Dragon Speedball 2 Turrican 1 or 2 OK, most of these are side scrolling shoot 'em ups, for which we have Defender 2000 and Protector / SE , still would be sweet. Something like Speedball 2 would be nice!

True, I'd be interested in finding out how many of the aforementioned were produced, or if anyone has any of them. I debated about getting a Milan for so long, then decided not to. I guess everything from the Falcon and TT, to all of the clones mentioned here are pretty rare. Actually, does anybody know how many Falcons and TTs were produced. Mega STEs for that matter too, they were all produced in reasonably low numbers weren't they?
-
I remember getting excited over most of these clones, but as you guys have stated, a lot of them never saw the light of day. Although not a clone the Atari Falcon, and C-Lab Falcon for that matter were the only TOS based computers mentioned here that I can remember being released. As for the Eagle by GE-Soft, there was an article in the once Atari World magazine (UK), issue 2. Its official distributor was Gasteiner here in the UK, but as mentioned I cannot remember it getting officially released. The basic system was supposed to spec'd with a 68030 CPU running at 32MHz, with TOS 3.06.

Multisync monitor dilemma...
Atari74user replied to Atari74user's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
OK, thanks Greenious. You're right, the old multisyncs are getting increasingly scarce, hence why I was thinking of going flat screen. Also to save space. I'll have to do some spec searching on some of the more modern multisyncs to find out. I did find some interesting facts on the Best Electronics site about multisyncs: http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/monadapt.htm I guess there are some compatibility issues when it comes to Low and Med resolutions. Thanks again, any more tips would be great as I'm not up on the technicalities regarding monitors/resolutions. -
...well not really a dilemma but I was wondering if someone could help me decide? I've long debated whether to buy an Atari colour monitor to run alongside my mono monitor, switching between both, and thus opening up retro gaming without having to disconnect my ST and everything else attached to it. However, I'm now thinking of going down the multisync route, and was wondering if the modern day flat screens (NEC for example) are compatible. I assume most multisyncs are compatible so long as I have a couple of VGA adaptors, and switch box for switching between ST High and ST Low-Med resolutions? Is this correct?

Ok post some of your setups again! ;)
Atari74user replied to tjlazah's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Yet more Atari goodness. Nice! Jesus tjlazah, are you ever going to stop. I had my eye on a couple of Mega STEs on eBay. Both were in Europe recently, but decided against. Yet again its a room thing. Like the Mega STE though. Need more room, need more Atari stuff...can't go on...etc... -
What are the best shoot em up games in ST?
Atari74user replied to doncleth's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Yep I agree with some of you guys here, Xenon II was and is still soooo good. What else: Blood Money R-Type St Dragon Turrican I & II (platform blasters) Flying Shark & 1943 (both similar games, most prefer Flying Shark) Zynaps was always worth a crack, but you might bust a few joysticks in anger! Probably the poorest out of this bunch to be fair! -
I've just taken a look at the 'show me your collection' topic. Nice rotary controller Stone, and all thanks to Tyrant. Now my next question is, how good is the rotary? It looks pretty cool! <--- Yeah, kind of like that!?
-
Jesus Tyrant, thats a mighty fine modded Jag. Anything else up your sleeve? Looks like Stone is a bit of a whizz, and a bit of a troublemaker! Looks like we have a PAL vs NTSC debate. Uh oh! I guess you have some nice kit too Stone? So what exactly is the benefit of the 50Hz and 60Hz switcher if the speed is minimal on the gaming front? OK I take the point that you can stick with PAL as the colour encoding scheme, would this then be the primary benefit? Meanwhile, back at the PAL vs NTSC ranch... ...we're always going to be biased towards our own regions, OK PAL has a lower refresh rate but picture quality is cool, no flickering at all yadda, yadda, yadda. I can't really comment on NTSC, even though I have made sure that I have full NTSC capabilities on my set to save being restricted. Surely its all down to having a good or jack set really. Paolo has been there and done that, and rightly brings up the point of 100Hz sets. Where PAL vs NTSC becomes annoying is when you get regional games for regional consoles et al. OK I can understand why, but isn't it also (and probably mostly) about ripping off the consumer. God bless Atari for keeping it nice and simple with the Jaguar, makes (made) a nice change. Pros and cons I guess, mostly cons! Boooo!
-
Some of you guys may be familar with a UK magazine called Retro Gamer. Last month they reviewed 8 bit Atari's, god bless my old 800XL. Anyway, this month they are reviewing the ST. Here's the URL to their site: http://www.livepublishing.co.uk/retro/retro7.shtml
-
Point taken Tyrant. Nice to know that it seems pretty easy to step up the speed, however like you say it's all swings and roundabouts. Given the fact of a bigger picture etc... Although I really like the idea of being able to switch between 50Hz and 60Hz. I assume you have done this? The idea seems similar to some hardware accelators for the ST but perhaps more simple!?
-
Cool! Thats all handy stuff Stone. No messing about between regions makes getting games and hardware easier. Shame about the speed difference. Not having a US machine, it will be a case of what I don't know won't hurt me.
