  1. Sorry to dig up an old thread, but it was either that or start a new one just like it.. Here's what I'm wondering about. Developers put the time and effort into making a game. Most of them do it for fun (I'm no programmer, but honestly I can't see how all that work is considered fun). They don't get much, if any, money from it. Then, they release a limited run of carts and that's it. (Some of them do this, not all). That system hurts people who are late hearing about it or too broke to buy a copy. They end up left out out. I mean, if the developer wanted people to play and enjoy their game, why do it this way? Now don't misunderstand me here. The developer has the right to do whatever he wishes with his work and I'll defend his right to do that 100%! I'm just wondering though, if people really are making the games because they enjoy it and want to share it with others, why not release the roms for personal use (possibly in a slightly altered form) after they stop selling the carts? Everyday I find out about great homebrew games that I'll never be able to play because the rom isn't availible and there are no copies of that game to be found anywhere online. Given the chance, I would buy the developers cart, to show my support. I'd also pay to use the rom (again, supporting the developer). I understand the frustration a developer must feel if they release the rom and then see bootleg carts showing up on eBay, but that's a risk when they make a cart too.. I guess it's a double-edged sword when it comes to putting the roms out there for people to enjoy. I just wish there was a way to play some of the out of production games that people are always raving about.
  2. I'm thinking about buying a set of either the Atari or Game Mate cordless joysticks, but I haven't been able to find much as far as reviews go. What I'm wondering about most is reliability, responsiveness and battery life. There are a lot of them on eBay, either non-working or untested, that I can get for a good price and repair, if needed. I just don't want to waste my time and money if these are just a novelty. Thanks in advance for any info!
  3. I just ordered the kit. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference the resistor makes. Whats odd is that on my HDTVs, the color is really close on the 2600 and the 7800. Where it really stands out is on the CRTs. As an example, Seaquest on the 7800 connected to my 13 inch CRT, Game mode off, brightness at lowest setting, everything looks great. Now the 2600, I have to turn game mode on and turn the brightness up past halfway to get a similar picture. So if the resistor corrects that so I don't have to adjust the settings on the TV all the time, I'll be a happy camper!
  4. I've been wondering about this ever since I got my revision 12 board back in a case. It doesn't have the resistor, but from what I've read, it will help the color if I add one, right? Also, while I've got the case opened up again, should I go ahead and replace the caps and voltage regulator? I'm guessing it needs something, since the color is off a bit when compared to my 7800, which is a lot more vibrant and bright.
  5. I always add RCA jacks when I do an AV mod. I think it looks nicer and gives you options when it comes to cable length. I also use mod boards instead of just soldering the components all over the place. I do use hot glue to stick the mod boards down, unless I have 3m tape handy. I transport my 2600 and 7800 between 2 different locations, sometimes on a daily basis, so having the jacks on the system is more convenient. I only need six feet of AV cable in my bedroom, but when I go to sit with my father at his house, I need 12 feet of cable. I can just leave the cables connected to the TVs and use them for whatever system I have with me at the time. ( I actually talked my father into playing Combat and Fishing Derby a few times, but he was born way before video games were made and doesn't have much interest in them.)
  6. Actually, I was, possibly interested in these. if you had answered, "Yes, they have the Best Electronics Gold PCBs", I would have snatched them up, because they would have been too good to pass up!. I hope we're all good now. I'm not knocking your work or your price, now that I know what repairs were made and everything. I hope these sell, they are worth your asking price. Nevermind about the ball tops.
  7. I've got a sealed copy of Warlords for the 2600. The shrinkwrap on mine is in good condition and it's original. The box is bent and mashed though. I already had a copy of Warlords, but the label was rough, so now I have a nice one to display if I don't trade or sell it. When I buy games, I buy them loose, since I buy them to play. However, if I really like a game, I'm not against buying a nice sealed copy as a "back-up".
  8. Why not go with the Atari Portable?
  9. I really think Krull is a decent game on it's own, but being a fan of the movie helps. As far as Robbie, He's been in a quite a few different films and TV shows. Of course the youngsters know him from Harry Potter. Being a fan of British TV, I was very happy with his performance in "Blackadder's Christmas Carol".
  10. OK, so I asked an idiotic question? You don't think people who are interested in buying these will want to know something about them other than you shortened the stick and added a ball? The way you should have handled my original question was, " I have refurbished these controllers and tested them." That would have been a suitable answer and would have satisfied my curiosity, without you being rude. Honestly, I don't see why you had to be so defensive and agitated. I'm sorry you didn't feel that my question originally deserved a reply. I sell controllers myself and I answer the same type of questions all the time without getting upset. I apologize for goading you into replying by saying, "For this price, they should have the Best Electronics internals at least, etc." I admit that was rude of me, but I figured it might get a reply, since just asking didn't.. Now, about checking out my threads, feel free to do so. I have no problem answering "idiotic" questions at any time, since the only way to find answers, is to ask questions. P.S. I know where you got the ball tops from.
  11. You didn't answer my question. Do these have new internals or just the ball mod? For this price, they should have the Best Electronics internals at least. I can do the ball mod for about $12 per controller, so I don't understand what makes these so valuable.
  12. Thanks! I'll check out the PDFs and email you when I get everything picked out! .
  13. Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to gain from this list. It's actually really hard to follow and I'm not sure what you have in the list? Also, Reference prices? I just don't get it. If you have stuff for sale, why not just tell me how much you want for the things I'm looking for? I do appreciate you making an effort.
  14. I'm still looking. I updated my first post to include a list of 2600 games I have for sale or trade and a couple new things I'm looking for.
  15. mine arrived today. It's amazing. I appreciate all the work that went into making the Harmony Encore. There's nothing at all to complain about. This thing is just plain perfect. Thank YOu!!!!
  16. Update: Mine arrived today! So it shipped out Tuesday night and was delivered on Thursday at noon! That's fast shipping. I've been messing around with it all day and I have absolutely no complaints. It arrived nicely packed and looks perfect! The instructions are easy to follow and I had it up and running within a couple of minutes. All I had to do was load the games on a card and I was ready to go. Every game I threw at it worked flawlessly. I don't know how I lived without this!
  17. Thanks! This coupler is kind of a prototype, just to see how it would work out. I'll probably be making some more of them, out of better materials such as plexiglass or MDF. As far as the joystick distance, I just went with what was most comfortable for me, but if I make them for other people, I can build them to their specs.
  18. OK, Here's my first try at adding images to a post, so hopefully it works. The first photo shows the "Prototype" coupler I built for playing Robotron using 2 2600 joysticks. It's made of layered plywood, 25x5x2 inches with 12 inches between the joysticks and weighs around 2 pounds. The joysticks are removable. They have 2x2 inch velcro squares under each of them and the joysticks fit securely in the holes even without the velcro. It has 2 holes in the front edge to allow the cords to come through along with a nylon carrying handle in the front and 4 non-slip feet on the bottom. I added a chrome strip between the two joysticks, just to break up the all black look and to better fit with the 7800 console. My score on Robotron tripled the first time I used this thing! The next photo shows a couple of custom controls I did for the 7800. The gamepad is a modded NES controller, with a small ball-top joystick added to the directional pad, and the start and select buttons removed. I also did a quick and dirty paint job, along with a new overlay and Atari logo, just as a test mostly. My masking tape failed around the logo, so the edges there look really bad. It was the first one I made before I started selling them, so I still like it. The 7800 proline in the photo has a shortened throw, by cutting down the joystick and the original knob and adding a rubber buffer to keep the joystick from being forced too far in any direction. I'll add more photos as I finish the other projects I have in the works.
  19. I'd be interested in a copy!
  20. Mine shipped today and will arrive on Friday, according to the tracking.
  21. Do these have new internals or just the ball mod?
  22. I didn't even know I wanted the colors changed until I saw this! Awesome job!
  23. I've run into sellers like this recently. One seller had a Vader and listed it as AV modded with power LED. The photo clearly showed it had no mods. I told her about it and she didn't change the listing or email me back. Another seller listed a CX40 joystick as a CX10. I emailed him and explained how to tell the difference, same result as the other seller. The last one I saw was for a light sixer. The guy used a stock photo (not a very good one) and a buy it now price of $500 with no information about the console or what came with it. I thought it was a joke, so I emailed him and asked him if he was kidding. never got a reply, but when I looked on eBay last night, I didn't see that listing anymore. A lot of sellers are uninformed when it comes to the things they are selling and most don't care about the buyer. They just want to make some money and that's all. If they can stretch the truth and get more cash, they do.
  24. That's exactly what I needed to know Thanks!
