  1. Well, I've never done any business with him, but you really can't argue with that kind of feedback. Also, the link you provided throws out an error, so I manually searched for his items. It's possible that someone here has dealt with him, but if you are looking to get work done, that feedback says it all.
  2. Everyone has their own opinion of what looks good and what doesn't. Gold plating the switches sounds nice to me, but it's probably cost prohibitive. I think they are aluminum sleeves over a plastic switch, so you might be able to have them anodized with the color of your choice. Some people have managed to drill a hole in the end of the power switch and put a tiny LED inside it, which I think looks cool, but it weakens the switch. For my Vader, I drilled a small hole next to the power switch and put a color changing RGB LED in it. Now when it's on, the LED changes colors. You could mount an LED inside the case, near the vents and have it shine out through the vents, kind of like accent lighting. Depending on how good your modding skills are, you could also file out the ATARI logo on the front and place some frosted glass or sanded clear plastic behind it, then light it from inside with an LED. I think one of the color changing RGB LEDs would work great for that. One LED doesn't use enough power to need a separate power supply, you just add a resistor to the positive side of the LED and connect it to the 7805 regulator (which you should replace with a new one). You can get a complete refurb kit from console5.com. It comes with all the parts you need to replace, plus a few you don't. It's only around $12 if I remember correctly. Oh, you should also get the Best Electronics, Lifetime Gold PCBs for your joysticks. I'd also recommend new inner handles and rubber boots. I went all out when I redid my joysticks. I even replaced the fire buttons, springs, retaining rings and screws. I basically have brand new joysticks now. you can also buy rebuilt ones from Best Electronics, for about $15-20 than doing it yourself. Oh, if you haven't already, get a Harmony Encore cart. No more switching carts, just load the entire 2600 library onto an SD card and put it in the Harmony, then select the game you want to play from the list. It's the best investment I made for mine. Lastly, if you do an AV mod, don't go cheap. I've had horrible luck getting a cheap board that had decent video quality. Get a UAV board from Bryan here on the forums. It's the best video quality you can get for a decent price and the board looks nice too. Those kind you see on eBay for $10 or so are garbage. The UAV bypasses everything and connects right to the TIA chip, so you get a really clean signal. I think that's about everything I can think of, but if you have questions, feel free to ask. Most of us are pretty helpful.
  3. I edited this because I felt your comments didn't deserve a response, since all they did was imply that people who ask questions are idiots. Good night.
  4. I'm guessing that your 2600 is a "Junior", right? Black console with a silver metal nameplate across it? If not, what does it look like? Can you post a picture? It would help to know what your 2600 is, so we can be sure to give you the correct advice.
  5. I played it a few times. There wasn't any scrolling issues, but it was very difficult to make jumps. I would intend to jump once, but end up jumping twice, which would usually cause me to fall in a pit and die. I noticed a bug in the areas where the paths fall away as you run across them. on the high path, I went to the end and got the herb, but I got stuck in the wall and had to reset. Then a couple of games later, on the lower path, it fell away and dropped me on the bottom to the left of the herb, so I tried to jump over the the herb and hit the edge where the path fell away and got stuck in the wall there too. I also never got the fire button to work, I thought maybe I was missing something, but if not, that would be a bug too. Overall though, I'm liking the game. It looks great and I can't wait to play the finished version.

  7. I just did all my shopping without leaving my chair. I also got everything cheaper than retail and got out of paying sales tax. Now I don't have to go to the Flu infested stores. I just wait on everything to arrive.

Other than T-shirts, I have learned that trying to buy clothing online is bound to lead to failure in correct sizing.

Some of the things I needed were medical supplies that I can't get locally. I also saved over $50 by getting everything online. With my health like it is, I feel like getting packages delivered is safer than going to 3 or 4 different stores with the flu as bad as it is.

  8. I'll dig it out of storage and take some pics in a few days. For anyone interested in the 7800, it's been sold.
  9. Yes. OK, I thought that was a funny answer at first, but then I felt like it might come across as rude, which made me feel bad. The colors can vary from console to console and from TV to TV. If you want to post a screenshot, we can look at it and maybe be more help. Chances are, if it's red, then it's OK. Have you tried on different TVs to see if that changes it? If not, that might be the place to start. There is a color pot on the 2600, but there's no need to adjust it until we see a screenshot.
  10. I've got an odd suggestion, but it might work and is usually safe on plastic. Zippo lighter fluid. I've seen it take off stuff that other things won't. Some of my friends who deal with vintage toys use it to clean off paint, permanent marker, and a ton of other things. If you can't get it off, the next best thing is to cover it up. You might try using a black marker to dot each spot. It may take a while, but it should do the trick.
  11. The battery in my Gameboy Micro is dying after 14 years. I'm in the United States, so if anyone happens to have an extra battery, let me know. All the ones on eBay are in China, except for one and it's 3 times the price. They are also all aftermarket and I'd like to have a good original battery.
  12. It's closer to $43, but that's still not that expensive, unless these same pasts can't be sourced in other parts of the world. Shipping would quickly become cost prohibitive. Still, I'm really happy that you've created this. As I mentioned before, if you ever decide to make a version for the 7800, I'm sure there will be a lot of us building them!
  13. I really like this. I'd love to have a Sixer that played 2600 and 7800 games!
  14. You will need a power supply, RF cable and a RCA to Coax barrel adapter to get you connected and running. Then you will need some type of joystick. Best Electronics is probably going to be the best place to go. If you can't manage to navigate the site (which hasn't improved), just use the contact link to send Brad a message and tell him what you need. He'll get back to you with a price. There are 3rd party power supplies out there, but I have no experience with them, so I don't feel comfortable recommending one of them. Also, if you don't know if the console even works, it's going to be a gamble putting that much into cables and a Pro Line joystick. Something else to consider is the cost of some of the games for the 7800. Most are affordable, but some aren't. You might want to do some research on the games and maybe play them on an emulator before sinking much money into this. Of course you can play 2600 games on it, but if you already have a 2600, there's not much point in that.
  15. I've been playing the GBA quite a bit, which caused me to play the GBC and then the original GB. Is it odd that the older the games and systems are, the better I like them? The 2600 is still my favorite, but I've found some really awesome games on systems I never considered buying back in the day.

I'm really partial to handheld systems, which is why I skipped a lot of the consoles when they came out. Now with emulation on the PSP, I have the chance to enjoy those consoles, in a handheld version.

Honestly for me - even with emulation being around for so long - the PSP is the main reason I have played so many games on "new to me" consoles/computers. MSX is one example that jumps to mind.

  17. This is interesting. My question is, How does this compare to the Harmony Encore, as far as cost? I can see this being a fun project to build, but cost would be a major factor. The Harmony Encore comes ready to use, where this requires some work. If you could create the same thing for the 7800, That would indeed be VERY interesting.
  18. If you haven't replaced the voltage regulator and caps in your 2600, one of those could be the issue. Those parts have a limited lifespan and all are well beyond it. A refurb kit is around $12 from Console5.com and will have all the replacement parts you need. If you can do basic soldering, you should have no problem replacing those parts. If your 2600 has socketed chips, you might try reseating them. The RIOT and TIA chips do go out from time to time, but I'd replace the voltage regulator and caps first. The Harmony takes a bit more power than the old carts, so a failing voltage regulator or power capacitor could cause an issue. I really doubt the problem is the Harmony. The other option would be to buy a cheap working 2600 and try the Harmony in it, if it works fine, then you would know it was your console that was at fault and you would have a working console to use while you troubleshoot and repair the faulty one.
  19. I don't think I've played a homebrew yet that wasn't worth getting. If I could only pick 5 favorites, I'd go with these... Go Fish! Space Cactus Canyon Draconian Wall Jump Ninja A-VCS-tec Challenge I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Homebrews availible in the AA store.
  20. I like the idea of not having wires. When it comes to the 2600, it's really not that practical, since the difficulty and reset switches are on the console. I had wireless controllers for the NES back in the day. I liked them, but I found myself using the wired ones most of the time anyway. I don't remember having any wireless controllers again until the PS2, I think. Then I had them for the GameCube and finally, the PS3. I've thought quite a bit about getting the old wireless joysticks for the 2600, but as a lot of people have pointed out, they are better in theory, than in actual use. My personal opinion, is that the 2600 would need a mod, allowing the controller to work the switches too. I don't see that being something worth the effort though.
  21. Was there a question? The closest thing I can figure, it seems like you were asking if there was a Fatal Run NTSC rom that would work on the Harmony? If that was your question, then the answer is yes, an NTSC rom does exist. If I'm not mistaken it's a conversion of the Pal rom. If you were asking about getting a cart of it, the answer is also yes. You can contact Albert about putting it on a cart for you. I'm thinking you can even convert the rom into an MP3 that will work with your Supercharger, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
  22. For what this game is meant to be about, I feel like the less color it has, the better it get's the theme across. The mushroom bit with all the colors works, due to the hallucinogenic properties of the mushroom. Most of the game should be kept "dark" to go along with the overall tone of the game. Spies in the Night was a Homebrew that was B&W only and it pulls it off amazingly. I feel like this game has the same potential. MemberAtarian, Keep doing what you're doing .Make the game the way YOU want to make it. The direction you are going in is working great so far, don't let any of us steer you off course.
  23. I think I've set a new record for myself! I've managed to listen to nothing but Steely Dan for well over 2 months now. I have a habit of sticking with one band until I get tired of their music, but there's just something about Steely Dan that never gets old!
