My first experience was with an NES emulator. I liked being able to play the games I had when I was younger, plus the ones I never had the money for. I had so much fun with it that I started getting emulators for every system I could, so I could play them on my PC. I even bought a controller adapter that worked with Gamecube, PS1&2, USB and Xbox controllers. I mostly used a PS2 controller. Then I got my Gameboy Micro and a flash cart and went crazy. I was just blown away by all the different emulators there were. Later, I got a PSP, hacked it, and had more systems/games than I could have ever imagined when I was a kid. So, yeah, I like emulators, without them, there would be a ton of consoles/games I might never have known about or ever played. Most emulators aren't perfect, so there's still a place for original hardware, I just have to pick and choose what hardware I like the most and can afford.

If the shipping is free to the UK, then it's not that bad of a deal, I guess. If you have the soldering skills to do the modding, you would save a LOT of money by getting an unmodded system. I wouldn't pay that much for a modded 4 switch, but that's just my personal opinion. If you can afford it and it's what you want, then you should buy one.

I've been looking for a newer version of Stella for the PSP and haven't had any luck finding one. I don't know anything about what's involved in porting Stella to the PSP and doubt I'd be able to do it on my own. I know Stella for the PC is still being updated, but does anyone know if there is someone still working on porting it to the PSP or if there is someone with the skills and the free time to do so? If there's any documentation on how to do it, I'd be willing to give it a shot myself. The reason I'm so interested, is because I carry my PSP and use it as my main portable system, since it's able to emulate so many different consoles. I play 2600 games more than anything else, but some of my favorite games won't work on the latest PSP version of Stella which seems to be from 2009. Also, if you guys think I might have more luck on a dedicated PSP forum, I'd be willing to give that a shot, if anyone can recommend a good PSP site.

Found like new Warner wood grain 2600. Problems with power.

Can't argue with that. Now if only I could find a nice Heavy Sixer for $25. -

If you are interested in playing it, then by all means, keep it and buy some more games for it. If you don't think you'll play it, then it's possible someone on the forums might be interested in buying it from you, if the price is reasonable. As far as modding it, that's really a personal choice. Some of the better mods will give you amazing picture quality, but the cheap mods are really hit and miss. The best mod of the money is the UAV. It will give you great picture quality and it's not expensive. If you can solder, it's not hard to do the mod yourself. Just steer clear of the mods that you find on eBay. If you can't solder, then there may be members near you who will mod the system for a fee. Honestly, if you are getting a decent picture with the RF, you don't need to mod it. Also, if you are going to keep it, don't overpay for games. Common carts are super cheap and easy to find. Read everything you can on the forums and feel free to ask questions if you need to. Post some pics of your 2600! -

Both consoles are composite modded. -

The power supply is fine. All the original ones read 15 or 16 volts when you check them with a meter. It drops to 9 or so volts, when under load. Then the power regulator in the 2600 drops it to 5 volts. The only way to know if the 2600 is working is to plug it in and try it. If it doesn't seem to work, you need to open it up and check to make sure there is 5 volts coming out of the power regulator when the console is plugged in and turned on. Try it out and see if it works, if it doesn't, we'll move on to the next step. The old RF switch box probably isn't going to work very well, so you are gonna want to buy a RCA to Coax barrel adapter. (Never heard anyone call it a "Warner" wood grain.) -

As most of you know, I'm having health issues and I'm needing to make some quick cash. So, I've got some stuff for sale, I haven't added any photos yet. I want to gauge interest before I unpack everything to take pictures. I have kidney stones in both kidneys right now, so I don't want to move around if it's not necessary. My father has offered to do the shipping for me, so if anyone buys anything, there won't be any delays in it getting to you, no matter how bad I'm feeling. -
I SAID GOOD DAY!

Tell me where to get a good soldering iron and thin solder wire

That looks pretty nice. The price is right too. I can see this being one I could afford to upgrade to eventually! -

RamrodHare replied to GradualGames's topic in Hardware
If you are new to soldering, just get a cheap soldering iron first. There's no point spending a lot of money, unless you intend to be doing it all the time. For most modding and repairs I just use a $5 soldering iron. You can get thin solder at Harbor Freight, Radio Shack, Lowes, most electronics or hardware places. The wick works fine for desoldering most things. After you've done some stuff with the cheap iron and decided you can do it, then buy the expensive stuff. I'm saying this because I'm poor, not poor like $50,000 a year. I mean poor like around $10,000 a year. If you've got the money and don't care to spend it, then by all means get the best stuff you can, it will make a difference. If you live on a budget like I do, go as cheap as possible while still managing to do the job. -
OK. "The risk that sellers have to take on in the real world"? Really? If I sell something to someone on Craigslist, the transaction is over. I don't see a risk. "You have no business being in business". People like me who sell on there occasionally to make ends meet isn't a "business", so your argument is invalid. "eBay needs buyers far more than it needs small time sellers". Without the sellers, eBay makes NOTHING. All their profit comes from charging SELLERS. If every "small time" seller just up and left eBay, they would shit a brick. I say Good Day sir.

I blocked johli64 as a bidder/buyer. I also checked out the items he had for sale. I was really hoping to find something with a manual so I could be a jackass and ask him if the manual had writing in it. I read some of his infantile whining on NintendoAge. The guy comes across as having some kind of issues in my opinion. Kind of like those protesters that were in the middle of a freeway at night and were surprised when one of them got hit by a car. (There's a youtube video somewhere if anyone wants to see it, I don't feel like looking for the link.) As far as the stuff he's selling on eBay, he doesn't go into much detail in his descriptions, so I don't see how he can bitch about other people's listings. I considered messaging him about an Atari Flashback joystick he has listed as a 2600 joystick, but he does mention it's a "newer" joystick, so I wasn't sure I could really rant much about it.

I've been really wanting to get a UAV because I know it would make a world of difference compared to RF or the cheap mods. I just haven't had the extra money. I can confirm that these lines are present on a transistor modded Vader and 7800. They also show up on my Jr. which is still RF. Since the UAV pulls the signal right from the source, it bypasses whatever it is that causes these lines to be introduced into the picture.
-
There's no file. Just a list of the homebrew games. It's not that hard to download each rom.
-
I get these lines too, mostly on homebrews, but not exclusively. On some TVs, I can adjust the picture size so these lines are outside of the viewing area. The other option is to adjust the brightness until they go away. I can tell you that the cheap mods don't get rid of them. The UAV mod should, since it's far superior to the simple ones. I asked this same question myself a few months ago, possibly in the Harmony Cart section, since the menu on it had the same lines. That was the thread that gave me the two options listed above.
-
That's the way it looks. It took a bit of playing before I got used to it. I still found it to be a little annoying. There's also Ed Tris. I played both yesterday and now I can't remember if Ed Tris was the same or not. Try it and see if you like it better, if so, Albert can probably put it on a cart for you.

What kind of SD card would you recommend?
RamrodHare replied to Atarian7's topic in Harmony Cartridge
a 1 Gb card is more than you will ever need, including ANY future games. You don't need to even worry about the speed of the card. Most cards come formatted, but it's not rocket science to format one. -
Arenafoot has the most up to date list that I know of. You will still have to hunt down the roms one at a time. Here's the best place to start. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/130551-complete-homebrew-lists/page-2?hl=homebrew+list&do=findComment&comment=3921879

Thanks for the photo. The yellow RCA jack is is always composite video. The white and red colored jacks are for audio, one is left the other is right, if it has stereo sound. A white jack only, means it's mono. When it comes to modding, it's not something that's necessary. The barrel adapter will help clear the picture up. If you want to go a step further, get a clamp on ferrite core and clamp it on the RF cable a few inches from the console. The ferrite will filter out interference and clean the picture up even more. They are fairly cheap and in some cases make quite a bit of difference.

I'm not gonna say there's no tv like that, but it's extremely unlikely. I did about 20 minutes just to be sure and found no results on any tv ever having an RCA input that was RF. As far as the antenna switch boxes, yes, there is a "Game" RCA, but it's the input, not the output. All the examples of older antenna switch boxes I found had an RCA input, labeled "game", usually with an arrow pointing in, to signify that it's the signal going into the box, not coming out. "IF" by some chance the OP has a TV with a single RF RCA input, I too would love to see a picture of it.

No running water, no heat in any room other than my bedroom. I'm very thankful for my electric blanket right now. I'm ready for winter to be over.

OMG Dude! Me too! I justv got hit about 2 hours ago with kidney stones on top of everything else!! Mine's only on one side at least...I hope ya feel better!
-
Sold mobile home for a while. Yep, gotta be sure you have good skirting and insulation around the pipes. Hope your luck changes soon!
-
If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. The best thing about hitting rock bottom is there's nowhere to go but up! LOL
Goldleader, I'm sorry you're hurting too. These kidney stones are the worst pain I've ever had. I don't wish that on my worst enemies, much less my friends here at AA.
