  1. I would also suggest adding a name, for those of us checking the newest build with Stella - it's hard to navigate within a folder full of default.bas.bins!
  2. without using underground 106,000 is possible by running left (hit few logs on the way, but then I am not the most skilled). Got to screen 37, next gold bar is on screen 29, so I assume someone with better skills than me could make it to 110,000, but do you think assuming perfect skills 114,000 would be possible without underground? Has someone ever attempted computer assisted run to prove it either way? by the way, that's my personal best - first time I ever got over 100K. It's manic! I love Pitfall!, there are games within games when you set yourself those specific goals. I will now need to attempt 114K using underground. Anyone still plays Pitfall!?
  3. so how did this end? have you ever received the console?
  4. not sure if I can find that information anywhere, I am looking for information on the homebrews using DPC+ kernel in batari basic, as I wanted to have a closer look at what the developers actually came up with in terms of playfield graphics. Suppose there is no list anywhere, but is there a chance someone can at least direct me to few nice examples of implementation in finished games?
  5. Don't forget paddles control for faster shift of political preferences.
  6. I admire the fact, that despite all the issues you mentioned you are still playing those homebrews!
  7. come on, Todd, just admit you made this record up, and stop signing with fake accounts here to try to fish for some plausible excuse.
  8. I can see one problem, you only need to stay on one row and keep warping screens, occasionally changing directions. The only thing that keeps you from achieving high-score is boredom! And I actually like it, but maybe it shouldn't allow warping?
  9. Suppose this may be one of the videos Todd Rogers submitted to Twin Galaxies. but seriously - what have happened in Stella, did I accidentally press something that disabled the bar sprite? edit: sorry, I wanted to post it in emulation section :/

    Chunkout ROM?

has anyone tried the rom in flashback portable? Should I assume it will not work properly?
  12. now, that was a busy week! 2600: Donkey Kong - 1h King Kong - 5 min (jeez...) Popeye - 10 min (without reading the manual, so i didn't know what to do!) Pooyan - 10 min (the same story as with Popeye ) Q-bert - 10 min Crystal Castles - 10 min Pitfall II - 5 min (i intended to give it a proper session, but i was having problems with simplest obstacles, so i switched off to avoid frustration. But still, this is one of the best - if not THE best - games for the system) Pygmy (Quelle release of Lock'n'Chase) - 20 min Rampage - 30 min (i love this game, and one day i am going to sit to get a proper score ) Road Runner - 30 min (beep-beep!) and my game of the week, in my opinion one of the most underrated games for 2600: Porky - 4 hours (and i've managed to find a way through that first highway screen straight to the scaffolding!)
  13. I have figured out now how to pass that first highway screen on the first try every time! The only thing, you can only get 7402 points while making the perfect run on the easiest setting, which is far from what you could get by NOT succeeding on the first try, which is bit strange to be honest. So, if you want to make it through the first screen, just make sure you are directly underneath the third column, that way you are sliding in between the vehicles on the two fastest lanes. works 99% of time for me!
  14. there are tips in high score contest Porky's thread. basically for the first screen don't have much hopes of progressing yet - especially that by doing so you will skip the best parts of the game! just aim for as much as you can, enter the fastest lanes basically when the vehicles are still above you, that will give you the best chances of 'sliding' just behind. then you have the pit and bit of pole vaulting. it's frustratingly hard at the beginning, but don't give up! after couple of games you will find out what moment you should grab the pole and what moment to release. for a naked lady in the shower screen, just make sure you are not facing her!
  15. sorry, but he was asking about the worst games, not the BEST games.
  16. i can't believe. for the first time ever i managed to get straight to scaffolding thingy (straight from the first frogger-like screen), and i dropped, and he got me!!! aaaargh! great game by the way. only recently discovered it, but it sure is a candidate for my top ten. i don't understand how it's being awarded low scores by the reviewers on the net.
  17. I think he's really smart bloke, with lots of clever observations and intelligent commentary, but he fell a victim of his own convention, so he's bit of stuck in all this shitty jokes and lots of swearing to keep the view count, especially with younger audience. i personally like his stuff, love some of the episodes, and i'm enjoying his take on 2600 games (even if it's bit unfair sometimes, as you would expect from someone that grew up with NES), i just ignore most of donkey shit jokes. Friday the 13th was good, and Dragon's Lair i quite enjoyed
  18. i have noticed two weird things. once i got stuck in the forest, gluing myself to the tree on the first screen on the right to the house. of course reset was needed. then in the green maze, when going down i overlapped the playfield area with a screen change by nearly half of the sprite. i was able to progress. so that's fine, but as i said, if you ever think about releasing the game in the future, that's probably something that needs polishing a bit, just for the fact how strange it looks. maybe not, maybe that is just me? unfortunately i didn't take a screenshot oh, and by the way - levelling up did take long, but not that long as you said, so maybe the reward for killing the jellybeans should be smaller?
  19. Collisions are handled much better now, but you still get occasional weirdness, not that annoying anymore, but probably you will want to get rid of that in the final, polished binary. And... Yay! She is kissing me!
  20. There was the topic explaining how to deal with collisions in batari basic somewhere on the forum, unfortunately i cannot remember what was the name of that. Something like "PF pixels to sprite pixels conversion"? This is actually quite a tough subject in bB, i was frustrated enough to stop working on my game long time ago because of difficulty in handling the collisions. It looks like you can quite often have it totally messed up, like getting the player stuck permanently, which happens in your game at this stage as well. Hopefully you will find a sollution. And damn, that Black Knight is tough beast to beat, suppose you have to find some extra equipment before going into green maze
  21. nice. as you say, definitely needs some rework on collisions, it's uncomfortable to go through the maze at the moment. But i like those kind of games, keep working!
  22. I started playing Superman - 25 minutes i would guess in total. What a great game that is! I did a little research online, and seriously, i believe that heavy bashing it sometimes receive is unfair. I guess it is coming mostly from the people that started playing videogames in NES era, and that is bit different approach to gaming in general, but come on! That game made my top ten instantly - i have never played it before, i should have add. The logic between screen changes is something you have to get use to, i must admit, but the concept really start to work out second or third time you are playing, because it allows you to take all these shortcuts, thus implementing some strategy. This game actually makes me tempted to finally get a proper, and working Atari 2600 and a cartridge to play like it should be played. So far, couple of years ago i have bought 2600 Jr (not working, gave it to my sister to display as a decorative element in her house) and 7800 with some wires i didn't know how to connect (sold now) and after those two failed attempts i decided to just rely on Stella emulator, but Superman game is the reason i want to try once more. Anyone willing to sell NTSC 2600 junior and boxed Superman copy with shipping to UK? Absolute classic. I need to update my top ten. Now i think it's the best game ever. Oh, yes - i have also played: Sneak'n'Peek 15 minutes - i like it, really. I like the clear visuals, character design is quite funny if you imagine it's not their hand funny, maybe not the game for bored single player, but interesting enough, that it is another game i want on the cartridge now, however strange that sounds Airlock - gave it couple more tries (5 minutes in total), unfortunately now i'm able to finish it every time i'm playing on both game variations, so not really much replay value, but for a quick game when you are tired and want to see your little hero funny celebration it's ok. Flip Out! - homebrew from forum - 15 minutes that No Name pitfall looking game from Batari Basic forums - 10 minutes
