  1. Such a shame that the Super Off Road: Baja sequel was a dud. The original arcade port on the SNES is (in my opinion) the definitive edition even though it only has a 2 player option instead of 3 like the cabinet.
  2. Got kind of a controversial one since the game's music is actually just a licensed soundtrack, however it's SNES translation sounds surprisingly close to the original tracks. I am of course talking about Biometal whose US region soundtrack consists entirely of techno outfit 2 Unlimited's greatest hits: I'm kind of cheating here because this undermines all of the already mentioned greats on the console like Donkey Kong Country, Plok, and special shoutouts to The Lawnmower Man. But I actually had this 2 Unlimited album on cassette as a kid and I just about wore the damn thing out. I totally suck at shooters but I rented this game all the time just to hear the music.
  3. About a month or so ago I posted a thread here soliciting for help in replacing the audio in Custer's Revenge. As things unfolded I came to the realization that this was going to be a much more complex undertaking than I had initially assumed. I've decided to quietly move on from the endeavor and just release the game as-is for people to play. Technically the .BIN file attached to this thread is no different from the one I linked a second ago, however posting in the Hacks forum is kind of the definitive way to officially put something out there and announce it proper, so that's why I'm posting this thread. I have complicated feelings regarding this project so I'll here's the devlog entry I wrote for this game on itch.io that breaks it all down: Like my previous romhack (Pineapple 2000) you can download the .BIN file from this thread or on my page for it at itch.io. I guess you guys aren't the athletic type because I searched for "Ring Fit Adventure" in this subforum and got a grand total of exactly one hit from someone who said they should play it more. đŸ˜† But real talk though, anyone else here play this game and just never post about it? I vaguely remember the game selling out in stores and online when it came out as people flocked to it, though a few days to a week after its release I was able to find one (a few of them actually) at the local Walmart no problem. I slept on pretty much every single other "video game + fitness" title that's ever been released in the history of gaming but I bought into Ring Fit because the combination of resistance training and cardio seemed like it might actually help someone with physical fitness and perhaps get in shape. I really got into this game! I couldn't play it too much when I was first starting out because I wasn't really all that in shape but after a few weeks I'd play this game for 90-120 minutes at a time and blast through all the levels and challenges. Not only did I beat the game, I beat it on New Game+ and New Game++. Once I had beaten the game three times over I started grinding out all of the specific exercises so I could obtain all of the unique player titles. While doing that I also grinded for money and bought every single piece of clothing for both the male and female characters and eventually maxed out most of the smoothie ingredients at 99. I also completed the skill tree, though that's a given since I played through the game three times in full. I managed to reach player level 700, though once I started using custom workouts in the game's Custom Mode it stopped giving me experience points so my level stopped going up. I am certain if you earned XP in Custom Mode I'd be close to or possibly over level 1,000. Anyways I managed to lose about 25 pounds playing the game three times a week for about 2 hours each time. The little calorie counter on the screen estimated about 450-550 calories burned each session though I don't know how accurate that is. I eventually put the game down though and I haven't touched it for a couple years. In that time medication adjustments and me admittedly eating foods/meals of convenience put the weight back on so I dusted off the ring set and fired it back up again tonight. I am definitely out of shape again! Where I used to manage three complete run throughs of my old custom workout sets this time I could only do one, so I definitely need to get acclimated to doing it again. Hopefully by April I'll be back on my game though. You can still find Ring Fit Adventure in places like Walmart today four years after its release. It seems to be one of Nintendo's "evergreen" games on the Switch even if it's not a high seller. Here's Dragaux, the main antagonist of the game. I get the impression Nintendo tried to make him as incompatible as possible with furry culture because while he has a nice bod (he has to, he works out all the time) they gave him a weird head that looks like a cross between a Muppet and Toothless the dragon. Also he is apparently sexless, lmao. That still didn't stop people from perving on him though.

  6. Just to touch on this since I didn't see anyone else address it, but I have "first generation" Retron 77 (if such a thing exists, I got mine when it first came out). One of the first things I did on it was play Seaquest, Pitfall, and Dolphin. All three of them worked. Perhaps later revisions of the hardware/firmware include some kind of lockout of Activison's games at the request of the company or something?
  7. This is a biggie because in my experience most contemporary collections of Atari 2600 games (and other retro games) are miserable experiences. For companies like AtGames it seemed to all be about obtaining the licenses for games and then putting the absolute bare minimum amount of work into their presentation. The result is playing a great game like Sonic the Hedgehog on supremely inferior hardware while this aurally offensive rendition of Green Hill Zone plays. Masato Nakamura isn't dead yet but if he was he wouldn't just be spinning in his grave he'd have detonated inside of it. Some of those plug and play TV game devices that were popular 20 years ago weren't entirely honest with their offerings, either. I believe the very first run of Atari 2600 PNP consoles featured actual 2600 binaries on them but starting with the second run (and also on the Atari Flashback console) they used versions of 2600 games that were running on NES hardware. There's some more info on that here. Point is you could argue that they were not "genuine" versions of Atari 2600 games as they were technically remakes running on an entirely different hardware spec than the 1977 console. That said, to answer OP's question I agree that the VCS/2600 is one of the "all time greats". I know it was beaten to market by standalone Pong machines for years and Fairchild Semiconductor produced the first cartridge-based video game console but Atari was the platform that "won" the first ever round of console wars. Perhaps Atari keeping this thing alive all the way into the nineties was a mistake but its 15 year lifespan saw the release of several milestone games either from Atari themselves or a third party such as Activision.

  9. IMO, if your children pout and say your parenting is "unfair" then you're probably doing them a service without them realizing it. When they are older and an understand the lengths you went to for their own good they'll come back around and have an immense respect for you. If I had children they would absolutely hate me between the ages of probably 12 to their mid to late 20's and I've already accepted that.
  10. Full disclosure I am a slight "prude" regarding what children should be exposed to, though I do not have kids of my own. If I did they would not be allowed to play M rated games of any sort. No Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc. If they were around 15 years old then maybe I'd be willing to budge on the "no Call of Duty" thing, but I've seen firsthand the literal depravity of what porn addicted people can sink to and there's no way I'd willingly allow my child access to something intended for 18+. I can't find it now, so it may have been delisted (or I'm remembering wrong), but I'd swear to you there was a hentai game on the eShop called "Anime Feet" that was just foot fetish material (a version of it is still on Steam). That one may not be available anymore, but the furry fetish one still is. Depending on how far you want to push the needle there are other "adult adjacent" games that conservative parents probably would not want their children exposed to either and I don't think setting adult content filters would catch these games because they aren't explicitly pornographic. I think the problem people have is Nintendo has historically always been seen as the "family friendly" platform. Things like religious themes, nudity, gambling, and other similar things had to be removed from games that wanted to be released on a Nintendo console. M rated games existed on later platforms but they were uncommon and usually stand out titles like Resident Evil 4 and Eternal Darkness. It seems like Nintendo just willingly allowed the floodgates to be opened on the eShop however and it is (seemingly) entirely unmoderated. It's obvious why allowing a child unrestricted (or poorly restricted) access to the internet is an extremely bad thing. Again if I had kids they'd have a boring flip phone until they were 18 and they would not be allowed to own their own PC or laptop and the computer we did own would be in a place where I'd be able to monitor what they were doing and who they were talking to. Concerned parents know this, but a Nintendo console seems like a safe bet where you can give it to a child and assume that they won't see anything you would not approve of. This has changed, sadly.
  11. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want my child having access to pictures of naked women. I am aware that there are measures in place where you can restrict what a given Nintendo account can view on the eShop but we all know that's not going to stop a determined youngster. This is not the dunk that you think it is.
  12. Nah man these games are straight up pornographic and show things like bare breasts and asses. I bought one as a joke to play on stream because I was absolutely certain that you couldn't have nudity in a game on the Switch and that these "hentai" games only went as far as to undress the women in them down to skimpy underwear. But nope, I completed a puzzle and BAM titties. Thankfully nobody clipped it or reported it because I could've gotten in trouble for that lmao.
  13. Haha, man, Swordquest. I had Earthworld as a kid because I inherited an Atari 2600 and some games both from my parents, who got the console when they got married, and also from my uncle who's a few years older than me. I did not have the manual or comic that came with the game so to me it was just endlessly walking around solving the puzzle rooms and then doing absolutely nothing. I always made sure to get the boots though because I hated the sound effect of the character walking. Now decades later I owe my community on Twitch a marathon of all three (now four thanks to Atari 50) Swordquest games. Also good to see Lost Luggage getting some love in this thread. That is one of my favorite 2600 games! And I agree Lost Luggage is superior to Kaboom.
  14. Today I played Phasmophobia with a friend and in the waiting room/lobby of the game's multiplayer mode there are some gimmicks to interact with, one of which being a small stack of beanbags and a cornhole board to throw them at. Saved myself $15!
  15. Thanks for the honest feedback. I feel like I am at odds with myself over this romhack project because one side of me wants to finish it, flesh it out, and make it into a whole big production with physical carts... and the other side of me is just saying "dude just move on this game is from an era of your life that's best forgotten". For what it's worth at least the 2024 WIP build of the romhack is the most complete and aside from the audio it's "done", so I guess it's out there now with no fanfare. As for the characters, they are unnamed in this game as they're just drop-in replacements for Custer and the Indian woman. However I do have characters I've designed that are original, named, and have backstories. I have this idea for a non-Atari 2600 game (PC, likely) called Super Muscles Bros that's a 2D sidescrolling platformer with the option to have 2 player co-op. You play as "Muscles Gator" (one of the mascots of my Twitch stream) and beat up your way through various levels on a quest to save Nessie (another gator, the "Princess Peach" of the game) who's been kidnapped by Tina the cobra ("Tina" being derived from "serpentine") and her dimwitted cohort Jake the rattlesnake. If there's a second player they get to be Flex Gator, Muscles' equally beefy brother. During the game you can collect pieces of fruit and other ingredients that you can use in between levels to make protein shakes that will grant you things like 1/2 damage, 2x attack power, extra jump height to get to secret places, etc. I've mapped out a significant portion of the game on my own but I'm absolutely terrible at drawing sprites and graphics. I also don't know much about programming but I am in the process of learning Godot Engine as we speak so hopefully that will change.
  16. I feel like I am reaching a sort of crossroads with this project. I revived it because I'm not getting any younger and it pains me to see things from my past that I was initially passionate about go unfinished, however at the same time I want to make these projects worthwhile endeavors. I want this to be more than just another romhack to get shuffled away on an FTP server somewhere and lost to time. I actually had plans to make physical copies of this for collectors and those who were interested in the novelty of the item, but I'm starting to have my doubts about that. I was planning on launching an Indiegogo campaign to help cover the costs associated with making carts and one of the things I wanted to have on offer were "collector's editions" of the game that came with a nice box, a keychain, lapel pin, stickers, and some other goodies. Obviously in order to produce all of those feelies it would take more money (hence the crowdfunding campaign) but I'm catching a vibe that there wouldn't be much interest in this and that I'd be wasting my time on the effort. Am I wrong in this assumption? Or should I just not worry about this dumb project and forget about it?

  19. I tracked down an international (Italian in this case) version of My Stop Smoking Coach for the Nintendo DS that was factory sealed. My intentions were to send the game off to WATA to have it graded and put into one of their collector cases so I could continue my joke of selling a WATA graded copy of the game on eBay for a million dollars. However before I sent the game off I wanted to make sure it was something they handled because the game's Italian title was not in their database. Additionally WATA goes as far as to provide the exact dimensions of the game cases they are willing to grade and while the case for a European DS game is the same overall size it is approximately 1mm (or slightly less) deeper. This discrepancy threw the whole thing off and WATA replied to my inquiry that they do not grade European DS games at this time.* So now I'm stuck with this objectively useless factory sealed game that I can do nothing with. I was planning on selling it on eBay for one million and one dollars with the extra dollar being because the game is an import and is therefore "fancy". *They also do not grade loose Atari 2600 games so my autographed copy of E.T. remains in its makeshift acrylic case to this day.

  21. I wanted to stream this (and the other $15 Amico mobile games) but as I read about the app I found out that apparently you need at least two mobile devices to play it? One device needs to run the free Amico Home app and the other(s) connect to it and act as the controller(s)? Seems like a lot of trouble for a bunch of sub-par games.
