Just got a Commodore 64 ; Now what?
Seob replied to Steppenwolffan21's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
I really love the c64. I never had one back in the days, we had a schneider CPC464,but i played a lot on them by friends. Also in the Netherlands tapedrives where the main softwarecarriers. Maybe because the price of diskdrives was expensive, but i also think that tapes were used more because you could copy them easy. You only needed a stereo with 2 tapedrives to copy games. When you have a tape drive you can also play games you download. U need to convert them to wav-file, play them over your speaker output and record it on a tapedrive. Or u could use a cassette adapter and a diskman. There also games available on cartridge, although you don't see them offen. Atari has produced some port of classic 2600 games to the c64 in cartridge format. c64 hardware is not very hard to get in the Netherland, and often you can get it for free from people that don't use them anymore. Since i haven't got a c64 diskdrive, i will get me one. I could hit myself because i could have one for 1 euro but didn't buy it. -
Bought yesterday some great stuff. For 2 euro i bought a Radiofin tele-sports III boxed with gamecart. For 2,50 euro a Atari 800xe with 11 game-carts. For 15 euro a Snes in a portable box. You can put the snes, with 2 controllers and 8 games in it, to play you don't have to take the snes out, because there are hole in the top and back where you can put the cables in. It came with 6 games and a super gameboy. For 20 euro a N64 with 2 games.

Here in holland, in the neigbourhood where i live it's pretty hard to find anything game related from atari, and other manyfactures of the 70's. You will find dosens of NES, although SNES is bit harder to find in the wild. This year i've found just 3 2600 carts and 2 odessey2 carts. But the year isn't ended yet, and with the summer there will be a lot of fleamarkets, maybe i'll be lucky to find more.

First or not, them 5200 controller is defentity one of the worst controllers ever made.

When u are able to get hold on a powerconverter, i would say yes. U may need a powerconverter because most pal televisions work on a voltage of 220V while us systems use 110V.

I just like every electronic device where i can play games on. I play a lot on both my PC and console. I like FPS very much and i'am hooked onto my beloved keyboard and mouse, to play them. I had a really hard time when i tryed to play FPS on a console.

Love the joystick. It really looks like it could be handled by an elefant. It looks like it can't be broken by anything. -

Intellivision TutorVision found w/games
Seob replied to Chuck Gill's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Nice find. I think why this unit play's intv games and your intvII doesn't is because , the intvII had somekind of lockout chip to prevent coleco produced intv games to be played on the intv. Here's a article about that:classicgaming Here's a little text of the site: "The Intellivision II was designed for a few reasons: to lower the production cost, make repairs easier (for example, it replaced the hard-wired controllers with removable ones), make expansion easier (for the upcoming 2600 adapter and other accessories), and to prevent Coleco's Intellivision games from working on the system. Yes, Mattel actually put in a subroutine to prevent the Intellivision II from playing its competitor's games. This subroutine also prevented one of Mattel's own games from working as well. When this was discovered, Mattel claimed it was the fault of the competitors' software. This change also led to a slight timing error in some games with sound effects. Competitors soon found a way to bypass this subroutine, to get their future games to work. " -
ColecoVision P.O.P. Display Kiosk Update
Seob replied to doubledown's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Great find. Hope you take good care of that nice piece of history. -
I used to play games when on work. I did software uprgades for ATM. And all you could do was insert disks or cd's and start the update and wait for half a hour or so. In the meanwhile i'd play on my gameboy color. Mostly zelda. Since i now have an other job where i don't have to wait for systems to boot, i can't play anymore games on work. (sometime i play on my mobile phone when on break.)

Are game gear and lynx worth buying?
Seob replied to sega saturn x's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Both systems are worth buying. I have a game gear and 2 lynx. Must agree that a lynx display is a little light. Sometimes it's a bit hard to see thing on the screen because of the bright screen light. I also love the game gear since i used to own one when i was younger. Last year i bought one because i'd sold mine. It has a broken onboard speaker, this is what is a common problem with gamegears. But it can be fixed by changing a capasitor. Also a common problem is scraces on the display cover. But you still be able to buy replacement covers for at least the gamegear. I would say buy bought. They both are really nice systems that died to soon because of battery life. -
When you buy the linux kit for the ps2 you would be able to surf the web. Only satback is that u need the linuxkit and that will cost a lot. So i don't think that it is a good option.

For psx try bleem as emulator. At this stage there is'nt any usefull ps2 emulator availeble, only a handful that play demo's.

Official Nintendo says that all three units are the same system, only with new features. And made backwards compatible. Even the new nintendo DS is a follow up of the origenal Gameboy. Has backwards compatiblitie. Nintendo currently is working on a whole new model that is going to be the official a new handheld product. Why is it the same model: Gameboy: the original release 1989. Gameboy 2de gen: 1996 only has a smaller size with bigger screen. Gameboy color: 1998 Only has a as extra the color screen. Gameboy advance: 2000 step up to 16 bit power, still has a 8 bit processor to play the original gameboy games. Gameboy Advance SP: 2002 new design and finaly a frontlit display. Gameboy DS: 2004 because sony now has annouced to come with a portable system Nintendo has to make bigger chances to the Gameboy to make it compatiteve. Since the release of the Gameboy all new versions only had slide improvments. And unforcinally more and more ports from other nintendo systems. Now they made some more changes to the system stepping up to 64bit graphics, adding dual screen (like that reminds me of the old nintendo game and watch lcd games) Giving the console 3d graphics insted of 2d, and backlit screens, with one touchscreen. And wireless communicatie to other gameboy DS owners. But still it has backwards compatiblitie so i see it as a new version with improvements rather than a whole new system.

Colecovision RF issues - I need some assistance
Seob replied to birdie3's topic in Classic Console Discussion
@birdie3 When turned on with no game it will say: colecovision tm turn game off before inserting cartridge or expansion module c 1982 coleco c stands for the copyride logo. Nothing else. Only the gamecartridges i have, have a label on it saying that it is a pal version. The other link is my powersupply that rates 220v. But since the coleco has a detachable powerbase it is hard to tell what kind of console it is. Maybe the only link would be a mark inside the coleco on the motherboard that indicates what version the console is. Most likey somewhere near the rf-tuner. Glad you fixed the problem. Since i never opent my coleco before i wasen't awere of the trimpot. -
Colecovision RF issues - I need some assistance
Seob replied to birdie3's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I own a pal version but i check everywhere but can't tell from the outside if it's a pal or ntsc one. There simpley aren't any pal markings what so ever. But on this site i found something that maybe usefull for you. colecovision faq 13.1) To fix a rolling picture/video problems: The problem is with the power switch. You'll notice that if you were to jiggle it a little without turning the system off that it will make a complete mess of your screen. What I suggest is that you desolder the power switch from the circuit board, take the metal cover off of it and clean all the contacts and re-grease them after cleaning them. Make sure the metal cover is REALLY TIGHT when you put it back on though. From then on if you are very careful when turning the unit on/off it should work OK for you. If you still have a problem go to an electronics store... and get a similar switch and replace it. Nothing else you can do really. - 05 Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but you seem to have a combination of an intermittent open and a heat sensitive component. Get a can of "cold spray" made for isolating thermal intermittents: should be a couple of bucks at a local electronics shop. If you can get the box open and get to all the components, it should be fairly straightforward to figure out which one is the bad guy. Actually, by your description (starts good, goes bad after 2 minutes, can be affected mechanically) leans towards a bad solder connection (or socket it the darn thing has them). It may be as easy as touching up a few solder connections. - 06 If the video problem is simply vertical lines dragging behind the sprites, it can sometimes be solved by using a different power supply. - 16 A number of problems (warping sprites, lack of audio, lines in sprites, etc.) can, in many circumstances, be solved simply by assuring a solid connection between the power supply and unit. This can require hardwiring the power supply to the unit. - 33 In some cases, sprite problems can be solved by cleaning the cartridge in question. But if the startup screen has letters screwed up, such as CKHACK, you probably have a bad DRAM. U10 is D7 and U17 is D0. CKHACK indicates a bad D2 line, which would be U15. General directions for replacing a bad chip can be found in Section 10.3. - 29 -
I've hooked up my ps2 on the internet yesterday, and after some trouble with my router i was able to go online. I had to flash my router with new software. I played hardware online that came with my network access disk. It's a funny game if you have a spare minut or so. Most of the time i still will use my pc for online gaming. Love shooters and nothing beats a good keyboard and mouse. But i like the idea of playing online sitting on a nice chair in front of a bigscreen. Since i don't have other online games i don't know how the ps2 online scene is like. But i think that online play is just an extra for a game. Why? After a year of so it getting hard to connect to a server that has still a huge load of people playing a online game that is a year or so old. If you have a good game and the online part is just an extra, then it's not a big deal that almost nobody is playing it anymore, because you can play it offline insted.

It's not a PAL console maybe? It also could be that you're tv-set tuner has trouble tuning in on channel 3 or 4. I've found out at a friend that his new tv-set hat trouble with getting clear picture on channel 3 and 4. When he tryed his set on a older tv instat the picture was clear. Because he had more trouble with this tv (a JVC) he trade it in for a Philips tv. This tv had a hi-end tuner and with this set he didn't have any trouble getting a good picture. -
I really like the style u are using. It trully looks very pro. I also would be intrestet how you are going to publish this.
